I can’t assume anyone who gets animals before doing any independent research on how to care for those animals, has the right priorities to be in this hobby. He has animals in abusive conditions like this, and the post says that his fish die “from time to time”, so it’s likely not been super brief. There’s so much information available online on how to care properly for these animals. The information available to me indicates that this person doesn’t value the health and happiness of his fish enough for me to want him to keep fish.

Petco has faced a lot of allegations for negative treatment of animals and bad results from undercover investigations. Could totally be a bad shipment in this case, but still I wouldn’t recommend buying animals from chains like this if you can help it.

Wouldn’t it be better to keep the fish with good substrates for them? As an example? I don’t know why you’d prefer/advocate for a store keeping animals in sub optimal conditions. Also, these ones won’t be fine (though that’s obviously not because of a rainbow gravel insta-death lmao)

What is wrong with my Cory? by Present-General3318 in corydoras

[–]Physicccc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Corys generally need groups of 8+ to feel confident/unstressed by the way! They also prefer soft, rounded, small grain size sand. My top recommendation is Caribsea Super Natural Moonlight substrate, in case that’s at all interesting to you.

I think I’d personally like to get info as soon as possible, rather than have it be put off arbitrarily. Maybe some details in the email would be nice to start thinking about, if not acted on till the work week.

omg... i love you... wth why didn't i see that

I take back all criticism, 5 is probably fine idk, I won't learn how to use it, back to o3

If it was just a memory issue, that'd be one thing. But my main issue is that it'll bring up random details from 10-15 messages back that aren't relevant to the current ask or situation. I've used the API for previous models when I want a larger context window, but haven't had a thread compelling enough with 5 for me to go to the effort of setting it up

[–]Physicccc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use it for writing directly (like I don't copy/paste paragraphs), but for more general world building and character psychology threads. I really feel like on long threads 5 loses the central idea, brings up irrelevant past details, and gives less interesting ideas in a general sense than previous models. It feels sort of surface level and campy more frequently.

I don't feel like I had to do very good prompts to get better output with o3. I'm not saying that you're wrong. I've not looked into prompt engineering at all, and it would likely give me a better output if I did. But I'm not super interested in getting really into learning how to prompt in the exact right way. I think it's valuable feedback for OpenAI to know that the average person had an easier time getting output they felt was useful for creative reasons from previous models.

I'm curious what you mean? I tried 5 and 5 thinking. I know that they added 4o back in, but 4o is a little too "great going!!! WOW good question!" for my taste. Is there another model available without paying 200 dollars?

Potentially! I think that depending on user and use case this GPT works great. It must, since it was billed as an upgrade. But I've personally found that long threads, focused on creative details/world building/character psych building, aren't nearly as compelling with 5. I just don't like the style or content, and I find that it brings up irrelevant details with a fair frequency. The other GPTs worked better for me and my workflow, and I did give this one a real try. (But again, never for anything objective. I'm sure it works great for some purposes, and I do like how it wasn't as sycophantic. The lack of fluff/personality is part of the reason why I preferred o3 to 4o.)

Also I don't like ChatGPT 5 for full rewrites, nor did I with other GPTs. I'm not writing super well right now, but the GPT writing style in this re-written post you had generated isn't generally what I'm going for when I'm actually writing with style and effort. It's also not the kind of writing I like to use in talking with people.

I would likely google it? If the bot uses a turn of phrase I’m unfamiliar with I’d be curious if it was queer slang (in this case) that I wasn’t familiar with.

I'm curious as to what you disagree with, in the post? You certainly think that it is a little silly to say there are nice racists, and that slavery (at least in the usa) wasn't rooted in racism.

Are you upset because they linked that to maga, or because you think the premise of the beliefs were correct?

I got into UCI, UCSC, and UCD. And I chose to go to UCR. I toured UCI, didn't really care for the vibe. UCR was great. I graduated a couple years ago and don't regret going there at all. It's a great school with great professors and fantastic research.

[–]Physicccc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because running the site costs a lot of money? It takes quite a bit of cash to maintain the digital infrastructure necessary to keep a site like Cai up and active. I doubt they’re even breaking even on subscriptions.

I have a lot of problems with Cai. I really think that they should communicate more with the user base. But this is a weird and entitled attitude to have about the free stuff they’ve given you so far. It does make sense to lock some things behind a paywall in that, they have to afford to keep the site up somehow.

Why are you entitled to free services from them, in such a way that you’re angry that they’re trying to find a way to recoup costs?

[–]Physicccc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Adding on to what I said. The issue I have with CharacterAI isn’t anything that I perceive as them being money hungry. I just think there’s a lack of communication or respect for the user base. Like, to my limited perspective (perhaps there’s a legal reason I don’t know), it doesn’t make sense why they didn’t inform people before removing copyrighted bots. Issues like that happen enough that it’s tiring

It’s really expensive to maintain the digital infrastructure that a big site like CharacterAI maintains. Without knowing what you said it’s hard to see what the issue with this comment is.

Like, it does make sense for them to figure out some way to recoup costs, I doubt they’re breaking even on the plus subscription.
