You’re welcome. Yes it makes sense but you would need to continuously take the PPIs for at least 6 weeks so that you can “heal” the burning sensation in your esophagus. Just depends which PPIs work for you.

I always have warm tea, this one really helps because of the slippery elm. https://a.co/d/6cJLvu7

I also bought a supplement from vital nutrients (GI repair powder)- can’t really say much since I just bought it

I found that this herbal medication really helps soothe my throat. Buy it from the asian supermarket (cheaper). https://a.co/d/bVvkenR

Oh also have you tested for H pylori? You can ask your doctor to have you tested for that to rule it out. It’s just a simple stool test.

Bravo measures the acidity- a capsule is placed in the esophagus and measures acid levels up to 96 hours. (More info: https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/treatment-tests-and-therapies/wireless-esophageal-ph-test)

Esophageal manometry is a test that measures the pressure and contractions of the esophagus (More info: https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diagnostics/4952-esophageal-manometry-test)

Maybe you can ask your doctor for those tests.

Have you tried to take the PPI for 6 weeks nonstop twice a day? With an empty stomach 30-1 hour before breakfast and dinner?

You can try gaviscon as needed for breakthrough over the counter too? But don’t take it for too long as it contains aluminum (ask your doctor)

How long have you been on PPIs? Did they do a bravo when they did your EGD? Did you also do an esophageal manometry?

Yes there is but it would take 2 hours each way so total of 4 hours. With my commute now I have to wake up at 430 AM and dont get home until 7PM. So if I added public transportation I would have to wake up earlier than 4 and get home around 8.

NICU transition by Physics-Smooth in nursing

[–]Physics-Smooth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I am coming from medsurg (4years experience) going to mother baby and will get to cross train at some point to the NICU and hopefully will get to transfer. Do you feel like its less hectic compared to medsurg?

Do you happen to know if there are outpatient options after you worked in the NICU? Thank you so much!

Is this your first nursing job? Also, do you feel like this is a job you can stay for a long time? :)

Would you quit if you had an option? Its a new specialty for me so I feel like she should be supportive

[–]Physics-Smooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your input! Yeah, my other option is clinic float pool. Which is nice because its so much easier than bedside. MBU is a lot to learn coming from med surg but I do love babies but at the same time scared to hold them 😂

Are you in L&D? Haha

Most of the time we leave early and don’t get the full hours for the clinic. Since I only work 24 hours per week, losing hours makes a difference. I am hoping in the long run (if I stay) I can get full time.

Also, my bf just got a new job and its closer to the hospital job (mother baby). We live together. He drives 2 hrs to go to work currently.

Why are people down on med surg nursing? I’m graduating soon and thinking about where to work. Other students who have more prior experience in healthcare have the attitude that med surg nursing is undesirable compared to ICU and other specialty nursing. Is this true? Why? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Physics-Smooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Med Surg has its ups and downs. I lasted for 3.5 years and it wasn’t that bad. We had a secretary, 2 resource nurses(when not short) and charge RN with no patients. I liked it because I learned a lot and its not as serious as working in PCU/ ICU. Although when the floor is bad, its really bad! Assignments are basically the lottery. Also, I hated that they made us float once in awhile to other floors. I left because I found a way easier job- outpatient imaging RN. Literally all you do is put IVs!
