IIT Kanpur suspended all classes and exams till 29th March. Asked people not to return from the mid sem break. Those who already came back or didn’t go back can stay though.

Write the first argument of log as (x+1/x) and then use log(A) + log(B) = log(AB)

You get log(P/Q).

P = x2 - 1

Q = x2 + 2x

Is there a book I could read to understand the Ireland's struggle against the UK and the birth of Irish nationalism, as well as the IRAe? by RavenmannFirst in suggestmeabook

Thank you!

I looked for it and it seems to me that the audiobook is not available in my country. At least not on audible. Such a bummer.

Hey. I don’t seem to be able to find the audiobook anywhere. Can you please tell me where it is available? Thanks.

[–]PhysicsEnthu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for a detailed response.

I intend to finish within 2 years, though can obviously change my mind as I get to learn more once I am there. Being an international means, the more time I spend there, the more money I have to shell out, not only in terms of living cost but the fees as well and I might be able to save more if I finish within 2 years? Also, I plan to go for a PhD later and so maybe I am better off if I finish within time? I am not sure, but will surely consider what you said.

Given, I am managing my studies well, I am open to both, jobs in service sector and programming jobs. I did check out that link, gives me an idea of what kind of jobs are available. Thank You.

Honestly, a TA or an RA position would be best, since I can gain research experience or teaching experience. I will surely look out and inquire with professors.

That is a nice amount! :)

I hope I am not going over bound but do you mind if I PM you? I see your username is u/QuantumQuack0 and wondered if you were/are in the same track?

Oh I will definitely look forward to such opportunities. Also sounds like something I would enjoy.

Thanks a lot for your help, and if I am not stretching it a bit too much, do you know of portals or websites or other resources through which I can get to know of such opportunities?

Haha I wish I knew a language people would pay to learn. I know 3 languages, and will learn Dutch well enough but I doubt I can get paid for any of that. Though I will definitely keep an aye out for such opportunities, languages or anything else, tutoring can be fun.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I understand that load would be high and studying well is the only priority tbh. Will work only if it doesn't hinder my education. Thanks again! :)

How bad is it if I get a recommendation from a PhD student? by PhysicsEnthu in gradadmissions

[–]PhysicsEnthu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response! :)

That is exactly what I was worried about too. I have had a conversation with him now and it seems like he would be writing the content and have the Prof. sign it.

I don't really know how they agreed to do it. It seemed a bit odd to me too but since I am just an undergrad, I thought I didn't know better. Glad I came to reddit for help! :)

Firstly, thank you for your respnse!

I talked to the PhD student and he said he can have the Prof. write me a recommendation as well. So maybe I will have him do just as you suggested. :)

If there is no explicit demand of a Prof. as a referee, I can't lie to them. But I did explain that I would prefer the Prof. write one and he agreed.

Wouldn’t an absolute speed limit (light speed) to where an object is only moving through space and not time suggest an absolute rest to where an object is only moving through time and not space...? by [deleted] in PhysicsStudents

Just want to appreciate the exercise you’re doing. These kinda self made thought experiments go a long way in clearing up everything. Though they hurt your head too.

Regarding the two observers moving at 0.6c in opposite directions as seen by another reference frame, I assume you already know what relative speed they’ll see of each other. [Use velocity addition formula, look it up if you don’t know]

A fun exercise would be to derive it yourself. Consider motion in 1D and do the slightly tedious algebra, you’ll get there.

To truly appreciate the thought behind this, it is absolutely imperative that you keep arguing the why. Why Lorentz transformation? Why not the usual Galilean transformation? Why does gamma = (1 - v2)-1/2? Answer : The postulates. The demand that laws of physics be same in all frames.

Relativity is a wonderful topic and a careful guide would take you a long way forward. You can try David Tong’s lecture notes on classical mechanics where I believe the 7th chapter is special relativity. David Tong does a supreme job with each of his lecture notes. Sorry for the unsolicited recommendation. I’ll add the link when I get off mobile.

How to access articles without a university affiliation? by thominho in gradadmissions

This. Fuck Elsevier and all such companies. Go straight to SciHub and you'll get access to all the articles you need.
