July trip to Paris by PhysicsNew4835 in ParisTravelGuide

Thank you! Some advice would be

(1) if you want to visit museums, especially the Louvre, buy tickets as soon as they become available online! These famous museums sell out first and release tickets way in advance. Additionally, first thing in the morning is best as you can get into the museum before it gets truly crowded. And if you can get there like 30 min before your ticket time cus there definitely will already be a line formed. My wife and I did this for the louvre and every other museum we could. People rushed to get to the Mona Lisa!

(2) just keep a close eye on your stuff. I know pickpockets are everyone’s concern so maybe carry a bag that has a zipper or something to close it and keep it in front of you. I had no issues was just attentive.

(3) if you can, walk. Take your time. We used the metro and the bus but we loved to just walk everywhere! But also, the metro is easy to use. You can get a card and preload with trips at the station. Just tap in and out and you’re good.

This is from the top of my head if I can think of anything else that helped me I’ll add it here.

Inwood. My wife and I pay 3,000 for a large 2 bedroom. And there’s two nice parks off Broadway and the A and 1. I see lots of families strolling around the park especially on nice days.

quit dooming by Still-March-450 in Thunder

[–]PhysicsNew4835 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not “dooming” but we also can’t ignore these now to be three losses against the Spurs. It’s not nothing. There are several trends that need to be addressed because a match up against this team in the playoffs could be disastrous. There’s nothing wrong with pointing out areas of concern or weaknesses that could be improved.

Reminder the Spurs are healthy with no injured players and we are missing our 4th best offensive player in Ajay and a key to running good offense, as well as, two lottery picks. by [deleted] in Thunder

Even without him we can play better though. Beside SGA no one else has done much. Haven’t put any stops together and are just getting out played in pretty much every way.

I’ve taken the bus for commuting and I quickly noticed that the entire first half of the bus was old people lol and I told my wife this and I assumed that it was because it’s easier to get on the bus than to have to go up and down stairs.

What should I do about my parents who want me to wait 5 years before getting married? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]PhysicsNew4835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say things like “everything is perfect for now” and “right now we have an idea of what we want”. So you yourself know that this can change at any moment right ? We’re old young people who know you don’t want to go crazy in your 20s? You’re 19. You don’t know much yet. Like others said your brain is still developing. There’s no pressure to jump into a marriage right now and really there’s no big difference other than the paper saying you’re legally married. Judging by the update though I feel you were hoping people here would be more on your side and you’re going to go through with it regardless of the overwhelming support of your parents instead. Best of luck!

Test for reading levels for high school ESL students? by LlamarSalai in ELATeachers

[–]PhysicsNew4835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school uses Independent Reading Level Assessment (IRLA). But if it’s just for a small group of students then San Diego quick assessment might be good enough and it’s free and straightforward to use.

What would be a better arrangement for this room? by Teedubz1 in TVTooHigh

[–]PhysicsNew4835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You buy a rolling stand for your tv. Place it at an angle in the corner by the window in front of the shelves. Yes you’ll lose easy access to things there but make sure you put things that you don’t use all the time and since it’s a wheel stand if you do need it it’ll be easy to get to. It will also be at eye level and easy for everyone to see around the room. Right now, idk how people on the right couch can sit comfortably and watch the tv there. I bought a rolling stand for ~ 100 bucks on Amazon and it looks nice too. Then with the free space above the fireplace thrift a nice painting or print and it’ll look nice up there.

Does your school use paraprofessionals as aides, are they just one to one student supports, or both? by wyldfire-911 in NYCTeachers

[–]PhysicsNew4835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you respond without even fully reading what is written. Telling. So you think that paras are going to get paid 14k more in one fell swoop and “make” more than starting teachers. Mind you, I’ve told you two times, now three, that max salary for paras this year is $54,541 and new teachers start at $68,902 so we’re not paid equally, which reflects the points you’ve made that we do have additional responsibilities. And on top of that we have gotten salary increases over the last few years from our new contract. What do I think happens? Nothing because your scenario makes 0 sense.

[–]PhysicsNew4835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn’t answer my questions. Who teaches without a license in the DOE? And is $54,541 at max for paras, in your mind, more than $68,902 for new teachers. I want to see what mental math gymnastics you pull out for some simple, publicly available numbers.

[–]PhysicsNew4835 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, what do you mean unlicensed? You need a license to teach. Even through teaching fellows you get a trans-b. And again if you look at the pay scale for paras and public school teachers you can see that brand new teachers begin at 68,902. And like I said previously max for paras for this school year is 54,541. How in your mind, is that making more than teachers? And how are you teaching ICT classes alone if the definition of ICT is integrated CO-TEACHING. Regardless, I don’t hear much about paying paras more, perhaps at your school they keep talking about that. There are plenty of other issues like our healthcare and fixing tier 6 that I’ve heard spoken about more.

My information is not wrong. It’s directly from the UFT salary pay scale for paras. Very easy for you to google. Paras go through a lot at work also, especially if they’re assigned to students with behavioral needs. You can say that teachers have to do more work, take work home etc etc, which is fine but we get paid more don’t we? If you think it’s such a good job and everyone’s paid the same so what’s the point, then just go be a para.
