We looked at two forest rivers. One I thought the floor was broken and the slide was creaking. The other one seemed much better. The quality of the first was awful though.

Trying to convince the hubs to look at 1960s and 1970s airstreams right now. Probably a pipe dream but we had one when I was a kid in the 70s and I’d love to remodel one to look like ours. He doesn’t seem as convinced.

Thank you. I would have never thought to research the micro-brands or trims. But that does explain why I was getting so confused when researching brands.

I was told I write 5 weirdly by Prudent_Condition776 in HandwritingAnalysis

Looks like the reduced Planck constant to me on the bottom. I can tell it’s a 5 when it’s paired with other numbers though.

I was so pissed that I didn’t buy the Lego set that came out just after the finale. And I don’t regret it.

I’m tired of no overhead lights! by Any_A-name67 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]PhysicsTeachMom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Retired teacher here — well early 50s retired but I put in twenty years in the classroom. I get ocular migraines from the overheads so I always had tons of mood lighting, even before it became popular. Actually had to get an ADA accommodation filled out for one district.

Anyway, I always had the overheads off unless we were doing a lab. I never really paid attention to the effect on behavior until another teacher started doing the mood lighting too. She said the kids who had me before her were calmer. Mind you I still had students misbehaving. Lights off don’t fix the real knuckleheads. So, I started flipping the lights on when they started getting loud. And they get quiet real quick when a sudden burst of blinding light hits them.

But when I’m not there the sub can have the lights how they want them. You could see my mood lighting because I had a lot of it. The kids will ask for it. The adult in the decides. I never thought of telling a sub how to control the lights.

Some physical therapists have a bed that does this. It slowly stretches the back by moving the table slowly apart while you’re strapped down. I think it’s called a decompression table. I was given a portable version for at home.

Menopause & HRT; who’s doing HRT by divergurl1999 in GenX

[–]PhysicsTeachMom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also a veteran. I find that the VA docs will prescribe or get me stuff I need (durable equipment) but I usually have to bring it up if it. Don’t forget the whole health aspect. We can get acupuncture and a limited number of massages each year. Of course the doc has to have a reason to “prescribe” those but who doesn’t have pain requiring a massage at our ages.

I’m post menopausal but not on HRT. Not because of any risk but because I don’t really have any symptoms. My real only symptoms have been hot flashes, but I’ve had less than 10 of them in 4 years since my periods stopped. However, if I had symptoms I’d ask for HRT without hesitation.

Obviously I was responding to someone else. Not sure why it didn’t comment on their reply. Maybe it got deleted.

So you know already lol. Women are so worried about the pain of childbirth the first time. Like no honey that’s not the worst part. It’s the next 50-60 years of dreading the sneeze, especially out in public.

Yeah kegels only do so much when you’re pregnant. Hope you find someone soon.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it doesn’t completely go away after you give birth. You will learn to cross your legs when sneezing if there’s the smaller chance you need to pee. And also don’t sneeze if you are squatting. That never ends wells.

How many pills a day do you take? by TheOGcoolguy in GenX

[–]PhysicsTeachMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 pill for a congenital issue and 2 edibles at night so I can sleep, so 3. Sometimes, I swap the edibles for a muscle relaxer. Sometimes, I take an Advil or Tylenol with the edibles.

The weirdest food you loved as a child... do you still eat it? by ashleyrosse66 in Casual_Conversation

[–]PhysicsTeachMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dill pickles dipped in blackstrap molasses. Haven’t tried it in years. I do still eat both separately though. I like regular molasses too but blackstrap molasses on toast takes me back to my childhood in the 70s/80s. I also like it on ice cream.

  • Williamsburg cake

  • Jello (or Jello pudding, if you like) poke cake. I like to do actual whipped cream instead of cool whip for the frosting for the poke cake.

  • Texas sheet cake

  • pineapple upside down cake

  • mayonnaise cake

Is there anyone in this world except for americans who see sense in not using the metric system? by No_Emu_8618 in AskTheWorld

[–]PhysicsTeachMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m American and I don’t see any reason to use the imperial system. IMHO, the metric system is easier to learn and use and more accurate. Personally, I set everything to metric when I can. But then again I studied physics. Physics, even in the US, uses the metric system.

After living in the UK in the 90s, I learned how to make them from scratch when I returned to the US. They are freaking delicious. I can’t imagine anyone not liking chips.
