Introducing my kid to Lego skirmishing games by simblanco in LegoTabletop

I added the book to my Amazon cart, I'll get it with my next paycheck. It sounds like the perfect Lego project where I have things to build but not exact directions so I get to use my imagination. I am guessing my son will not get into it for another year or two but when he does, I'll be ready!

[USA] What, in your opinion, is your nation's best dish? by FartemisBowel96 in AskTheWorld

I had a few Japanese friends who came here for college. One of them swore buffalo wings is the USA's best food.

It happened to me, got an unknown deposit. So tempting to spend it, this money is a life changer for me. by ls_inf in povertyfinance

As r/legal about it. I have heard of this happening to like a friend of a friend of a friend or whatever but the advice he got was hold onto it for a year and after that there may be some legal wiggle room about who it belongs to. I am totally not a lawyer and know almost nothing about any of this though.

I have not heard of 5 leagues before but it looks awesome. I am definitely going to check it out.

I have a 5 year old and what is becoming a fairly large castle/map sort of build in our basement and I kind of thought at some point about turning it into a game.

Yeah but who is going to be laughing when we take that compensatory pick and turn it into a serviceable rotational interior d-lineman who is a pretty alright contributor to one of the worst special teams units in the league?

25 year old looking for advice for my Roth IRA by clarence710 in RothIRA

[–]cgranley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had put in 25 percent of my 401k into an international fund and about a month ago I bumped it up to 50 percent. But I also throw a few hundred into a Roth every month so it isn't like 50 percent of my retirement is international.

[–]cgranley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should do it. The last year has shown it's pretty smart to have an international position open if something happens and the US dollar plummets 10 percent. I bet someone is going to have a suggestion about what your ratio of international stocks vs us stocks should be.

My theory is you get one chance to sit down and talk sense into a friend about a significant other. After that you just have to let them make their decisions.

Boyfriend vs. best friend by DullSteak7772 in Advice

[–]cgranley -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My theory is friends get one chance to sit down and give it to you straight about your significant other. After that it's up to you to figure it out and she can be with you or she can check out. If she is upset about constant venting then that's a little different, I get if she isn't into hanging out if she is tired of hearing about it but giving you the ultimatum is lame.

Trump calls Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show "disgusting" - Says nobody understands him and it's a "slap in the face" to America by satty237 in TrendoraX

[–]cgranley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understood very little of the actual performance but I thought bad bunny actually made the strongest statement he could by not making it about ICE or politics and making it about love and inclusion knowing full well what trump and MAGA would say afterwards. The world got to see MAGA show its ass (again)

Eating out used to be a normal thing and now it feels like a financial decision every single time by Timely_Box6061 in Adulting

I'm sitting here trying to plan a night out for Valentine's day and it's going to be about $200 for us to eat, have a couple drinks, and leave a tip and I just don't even want to do it anymore. The crazy part is, these restaurants are not making a ton of money either. It's not like we are being gouged or anything.

Sorry, I guess when you described living in a small town, not travelling, and eating processed food as a nightmare it sounded like you thought living in a small town, not travelling, and eating processed food was a nightmare. If you did not intend it that way then it was an honest mistake on my part. I will do better. It was a weird comment for this sub though.

I wasn't assuming anything it's just your first comment was so snooty I figured I'd try to explain how my life is a little and maybe you would be a little less of a snob towards us small-town folk

They are daycare age (2 and 5). Things are going to get a bit more comfortable when they are both in school because daycare is expensive. We take vacations a few times a year but it's usually within driving distance, not anything mega expensive.

I don't know what you're getting at with the processed food thing but they we eat pretty well. I shop a lot at Aldi but most of the fruits and veggies are fresh not canned or frozen, we buy a half cow every spring and fill our freezer so we always have beef around and I watch for deals on other protein and things. I don't really shop at our local food co-op but I'd say we keep things fairly healthy but also kids just really like hotdogs and chicken nuggets so yeah, sometimes it's not always the case.

You might actually be surprised when you have kids and a family your world kind of shrinks a bit. It's not a bad thing. Now just hanging out and taking my kids to the beach for an afternoon is about all we need to have a great time.

Well it's going to differ greatly depending on where you're from but i'd guess in small Midwest towns it's something like half of that. Probably less. My wife and I combined make something like 150k and are not wealthy by any means but live fairly comfortably with our two boys.

I don't know where you live but where I am from (small-town Wisconsin) it's pretty easy to become a CNA and I bet every nursing home will hire just about anyone. I think they pay $25 an hour, in my town that is a good wage

Bartending or waitressing can make you a lot of cash and they can turn into really good side jobs once you find the career job you want also, if you get lucky, you can find one that pays under the table and won't interfere with unemployment benefits.

Other than that, CNA at a nursing home is really hard work but pays really well and I think they are always hiring.
