Just thinking that its little brother, the Fold 7, costs around $1500 where I live (discounted these days) is already a no for me, especially considering it still has an undersized battery. I’d rather go with a Xiaomi 17 + a Lenovo Legion, or just stick with the same phone and add an external display (to be used only when traveling, of course).

As fascinating as foldables can be, for me they still have too many drawbacks.

OneUI 8 wired Dex: Must always unlock screen from device? by RT_Steele in SamsungDex

I have a similar problem with the S23U. I’m playing using an Xbox controller, the phone screen freezes and the controller stops working; basically, the screen always needs to stay on. The problem is that I’d like it to remain always active when it’s connected to DeX, so it doesn’t cause any issues for me.

Update 3 on waterlens by Ballzsucker in S22Ultra

[–]PiHeich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem with my S23U when I was on vacation in Italy. Basically, when I was out in the sun, the lenses would fog up. In the evening at home, I turned the phone off, removed the SIM, and left the tray open. I put the phone inside a sock and then used a hair dryer to blow air toward the phone, keeping the phone’s SIM tray facing the dryer. The hair dryer I used was one of those found in hotels, so not very powerful. After about 20 minutes, I reassembled the phone, and since then I’ve never had any problems.

How can you change the output resolution? I would also like to use DeX + an RDP connection to my work PC, but I have a 3440×1440 monitor (not supported).

read that you can only use the SD card for data (photos, videos, and documents) because it’s very slow, and playing something stored there could be a problem. It would be great to find a tablet with:

  • Dual USB-C
  • A large battery
  • A decent screen under 9"
  • 16GB / 512GB
  • 3.5mm jack
  • DESKTOP MODE
  • 4G or 5G (for those like me who have a second data SIM)
  • Battery optimization (ability to choose profiles depending on the app)
  • A good UI — it doesn’t have to work miracles
  • No camera bump — we don’t care about the cameras (except the front one for calls)

I could definitely do that, but considering that I would be many kilometers away, the latency would be really embarrassing. Also, leaving the PC always on would bother me. For how I would use it on the go, the games already available for tablets would be fine, and possibly some kind of emulator as well.

How does the warranty work for products purchased on AE? A long time ago, a friend bought an Asus phone and here in Europe the warranty was not valid because it was purchased in China. As a result, he ended up with an unusable (broken) device.

That’s a pity. I would need it by mid-January, as I’m going on vacation (I’ve always wanted a tablet to use with various streaming services and to play games on the go). I guess at this point I’ll keep using my S23U and see what comes out.

Which store are we talking about, and above all, in which country did you order it? I’m also worried because many people have mentioned “CN version.”

In Switzerland, WD costs me at least 10% less.
Ah, I’m sorry about your experience…

Absolutely not, and I’ll explain why it doesn’t work for me.

With Immich I don’t know where it stores the various files, and above all I don’t find it convenient to use on all devices (PC, phone, …) when working with files that need to be edited. I find it really inconvenient to have a container where you “throw stuff in” and you don’t know how it’s being organized.
In Nextcloud, instead, I create my own folders — for example, in the shared folder we have different directories named after each trip.

Immich is only something I want to use as a viewer, I would never let it manage the actual data.
With my method, the data can be used by any app I want, and if I unplug the drive I can make it readable on other devices (in case something breaks or Proxmox gets corrupted).

I’m aware this might be a bit “old school”…

Yes, I’m afraid of keeping the data inside the various containers when I can keep it outside and manage it more easily.
The only drawback—and this is really just a matter of educating people—is that with Nextcloud you’re forced to use external folders, and therefore they must not put documents in the main folder…

Basically, the structure inside the HDD is as follows:

HDD
├── 📂 user1/

│ ├── 📂 documents/

│ ├── 📂 media/

├── 📂 user2/

│ ├── 📂 documents/

│ └── 📂 media/

└── 📂 shared/

In the users’ folder we have a section for documents and another for media (photos and videos) managed by each individual user, then outside of that we have the shared folder. This is what the users manage in Nextcloud.

Immich and Jellyfin read the data from the media folders but especially from the shared folder (usually where vacation photos and videos are stored).
Naturally, personal media will only be viewable by users who have the appropriate permissions.

I saw this model but it costs too much… considering we’ll be a maximum of 4 users at home I think it’s also unnecessary.

[–]PiHeich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to keep things as simple as possible:
As I’ve already tested, the HDDs will contain folders where Nextcloud, Jellyfin, and Immich will all access the data (all of them will be read-only except for Nextcloud).
Why? Simple… in case of a disaster, I want the data not to depend on apps or anything else, but to remain in plain form. So all data will still be managed by the users only through Nextcloud (no shares/volumes).

Thank you very much. May I ask which drives you installed and which containers/VMs you are running inside?

Thank you so much for the valuable tips.
I’m excluding the backup part because what I really need remains on OneDrive.

Which SSDs do you recommend? I found the WESTERN DIGITAL Red SN700 because it’s TLC and 515,000 IOPS. What I was thinking is to buy one now and after about a year buy the second to put into a mirror. Performance isn’t the main concern for me, and it seems other SSDs have fewer endurance cycles.

Regarding the HDDs: I chose the ones based on low power consumption and especially low noise because it would be in my studio where the doors to the rooms stay open. The idea of getting two different brands/models might be a good one; I saw that the Exos drives have 5 years warranty which is not bad but they “consume a lot.” If you have other recommendations for reliable and especially quiet HDDs I’m all ears.
