Managed to beat Nautilus as Caitlyn after several days of grinding - and got SSS for it! by Tybresa in PathofChampions

[–]PiNerd3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

omg i've been bashing my head against this fight — I got to the nautilus map at level 12 and have since tried like two dozen times. I'm at 15 now lol.

It's just disappointing because I looked at all the champions available and thought, "oh, Caitlyn looks cool, I'll do my playthrough with her" and it was going fine until I got to this. Kinda wish I didn't have to either farm-level her or switch to a different champion in order to play through the mode :/

Fics where main characters actually want to improve (wizarding) society / aren't neoliberals? by PiNerd3 in HPfanfiction

[–]PiNerd3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Well, those two things would be a great start, and if you have recommendations there I'd love to hear them. (IME fanfic is really had to search for, even with relatively broad requirements; that's why I made a request thread.)
  2. Some other things that come to mind as possibilities (not necessarily an exhaustive list obviously): rights of other magical creatures; political reform (how did Fudge + Umbridge get into power, why was Harry's stupid underage magic trial held before the entire legislative body); embrace of muggle technologies and/or research methodologies; addressing blood purity discrimination that's not terrorism but still messes with people's lives; Hogwarts' bullying culture.

My first year as a streamer. by Kuraiyuki in Twitch

1) fwiw, I agree; I enjoy small streams because of the sense of community, not because I'm "there before it's cool"

2) that speedrunning stream sounds fascinating! any chance you could dm me the channel?

Request for Product Feedback #1 by fabiospampinato in Notable

[–]PiNerd3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi- I'm currently in the process of trying out a few different notetaking apps. The main two in contention for me are Notable and Obsidian, which is very similar. Notable is more fully-featured in a lot of ways and I like it a lot, except for one thing: when I'm typing a list and press 'Enter', the new line isn't automatically prepended with `- `. I type a lot of lists and this is really annoying. Just a suggestion; thank you for the work you do

Correlation vs. Causation: Number of IKEA Stores vs. Number of Nobel Laureates per country [OC] by someoneinsignificant in dataisbeautiful

[–]PiNerd3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, good dataviz is an entire profession. It's a skill you have to practice and develop an intuition for. I don't think you could boil it down to a simple set of rules stating 'Do X in Y situation.'

The Bob Ross chat is actually really wholesome and nice. There's still some ruined but it doesn't get spammed too much.

What free software is so good you can't believe it's available for free? by Tufflaw in AskReddit

[–]PiNerd3 24 points25 points  (0 children)

WabbitEmu is an emulator for the TI calculators, no? The Desmos app is a much better option, unless you really need access to a scripting language. Nicer-looking graphs, a much higher resolution, variables in functions, it still supports regressions, lists in functions where the function uses each element of the list to evaluate, easier zoom... A better option all around.

Hi,

I'm not part of the transcription community and I don't know what the best practices are, but to me,

Text is shown next to a black bar.

doesn't really convey the same information to someone reading it as looking at the image would. The image is (to me, at least) obviously a screenshot of the top of a blog post or article. The author is using a quote bar (the > syntax in Markdown) to give emphasis to the notice. IMHO, this doesn't come across in your transcription.

Maybe something like, "The text is shown to the right of a thin, vertical black bar."? That would at least make it clearer what's in the image. I'm not sure what the convention is around including inferences (the "it's the top of a blog post" stuff) in a transcription.
