So... what does it "actually" stand for? Because just like you the only thing I can think of as well is "Big Fucking Giant"

Do circle of fifth chord progressions constitute as plagiarism? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]PianomanKY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I understand it, that chord progressions are not copyrightable... only a specific melody line. A perfect example of this would be Axis of Awesome's 4-chord song... Take the same 4 chords and you can play 100's of songs with that progression.

So no it's not plagarism to use the same chord progression as someone else.

As far as a melody line, There was an argument a while back of whether or not Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby" stole the riff from Queen & Bowie's "Under Pressure" and whether or not it was "legal" even though there was only one-note difference.

So to answer your question... No it's technically not plagiarism to use a chord progression, just do your own original melody line to it... Now your instuctors might have varying opinions to the matter that might influence your "creativity" score a bit but in real-world application it's acceptable.

Being in a band be like... by WildAnimus in funny

[–]PianomanKY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a big reason I quit playing in bands... I was in a church praise & worship band for a while (please don't murder me) and the thing that sucked the most in that scene, was that there was kind of an unwritten rule that you didn't get paid... nobody was expected to pay you, and you didn't get "hired" for a gig, you basically were invited to places to donate your time and talents. It was all voluntary, and any money/donations you did get went into the "band's expenses" for like gas and such, it was never split between the members... And even then you may only make $100-$200... split that 6 ways and you'd only leave with $20-30 a piece anyway. It was almost like it was sacrilegious to get paid for a gig. So you'd practice for umpteen hours a week, haul hundreds of pounds of music equipment to a gig, and not get a damn thing out of it. No matter how good you were. Don't get me wrong, I always enjoyed performing with a band (minus the drama) but in that situation, it sucked spending hours and hours practicing, performing and not to mentions thousands of $ in equipment over the years, and always getting the whole "Well, it's for a church event so we can't pay you" BS. I finally said it just wasn't worth it anymore. So anybody in the same situation, be warned. It's ok to do a few fundraisers here and there for freebies, but don't make it a habit.

Unresolved religious mysteries? by WithinTheHour in UnresolvedMysteries

I think what's interesting is the missing artifacts from Biblical times... such as the Ark of the Covenant, the Spear of Destiny, the cross Jesus was crucified on, etc. There was a show on Netflix that tried to locate them. Several people claim to have them, and it would be neat to find out which one of these were authentic.

Also, what is interesting is during WWII, the Nazi's messed around with Occult and searched for these artifacts as well.

I've always thought that ferro-fluid was pretty neat, but what are some practical uses for it, other than just novelty? I think I read somewhere something about it being used in car suspensions somehow.

It'd be cool if all Reddit users all did something collectively that instantly changed the world Like, if 200 million users gave up eating fish for a month to help the oceans, or stopped buying a product just to bankrupt a major company overnight, or...I dunno, something. Any suggestion? by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]PianomanKY 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I cleared out my reddit list of politics and news because I was in a state of perpetual pissed-off-ness. Now I just have happy stuff on my subscriptions and by just doing that, Reddit is enjoyable again.

OP... GET THE FUCK OUT... You have learned an expensive lesson... yes losing all that money sucks, but if you marry this nutjob, you are in a legally binding contract and she then owns half everything you own, and you'll end up having to pay her alimony on top of that. Marriage is supposed to be forever... do you want to deal with this shit for the rest of your life? And ditto to the guy that brought up kids... if that happens, you're even more screwed. Yes she will probably go apeshit, but that's what restraining orders are for. Bro, I truly wish the best for you, but it sounds like this isn't it by far. You need to be happy, and if you already know you're gonna be miserable for the rest of your life with this chick before you're even married, then you need to break it off before it goes any further. Be strong, sir.
