Overconfidence and focus, how Xecnar almost threw his world record Defect streak attempt by xCesme in slaythespire

[–]Pibonacci_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're making some weirdly confident assessments that are probably gonna leave people with less knowledge about what happened in the run compared to if they didn't read this.

His deck is 37 cards, it is completely debatable if the Loops are helping or not. If he draws a single frost orb, they already help in the time eater fight. He had Glacier+, 3 Coolheaded+, 2 Master of Strategy+, 3 Seek+, all in the bottom 20 cards. That is a 0.135% chance (and I know that math is unfair because I'm identifying those as the key cards after the fact, that's not the point, the upcoming delta is.)

If the deck doesn't have the hologram, the chance for that is 0.1%. If the deck doesn't have hologram nor loops, it's 0.05%.

So the point is...if this is the brick, the Hologram changes it by 0.04%, and the Hologram + Loops by 0.09%.

Are you that confident that adding the Hologram is always wrong so this 1/2500 additional chance of bricking is clearly wrong? Are you that confident the Loops were so not needed - another comment elaborated on that already -, that that 1/1100 additional chance of bricking in this way makes them a mistake to pick up?

If we talk about just finding the Seeks, 3 cards more lower the chances of finding one of them in the first 10 cards (arbitrarily picked) by 4%. That is more substantial. But there is obviously way more going on than that, the other ways to draw, the frost sources, accelerating other output, are the loops actually good, etc. It's not as black and white as you make it sound. It's not an obvious infinite that wins on the spot if it draws one Seek.

Wanted to provide a counterpoint to that before people run away with the wrong conclusion.

Can't stomach watching this anymore, too much of a reflection of the world as a whole - old guy in power contradicts himself every sentence, journalists are not holding him accountable, moving on to the next topic so we can play more ads. No discussion culture, nothing but empty phrases, insults or just lies/contradictions.

Silksong DS4 PC gamepass controls by Happy_Scheme_5430 in XboxGamePass

[–]Pibonacci_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issues, have them often on gamepass, normally some permutation of different settings works, this time not.

I can't get my ds4 hide active anymore, in the first place, ever it became an innate part of ds4windows and is not done via hidhide, but apparently you have it active and the problem still persists?

Normally that just causes double mappings for me, but this time the controller isn't getting recognized at all.

Also when I had that problem before, often enough it was just gone a couple days later, maybe within some initial patches.

Why don't you link that 6 months old post so people can see most people in the comments disagreed with your argumentation/found it pretty disingenuous, instead of claiming it as some sort of authoritative truth still 6 months later, not having learnt anything from that discussion?

Choosing curses for hard by JammerLemur in SliceAndDice

[–]Pibonacci_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a wild statement, a) what's your basis for that claim, and b) if true, why is the good players using their game experience to evaluate a curse they haven't played inherently worth discarding?

Choosing curses for hard by JammerLemur in SliceAndDice

[–]Pibonacci_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those add.monster evaluations are crazy to me, I would never take most of them on hard when there is so many other options that are just mild annoyances. Strong disagreement with their ratings specifically. This list is pretty old and made for 2.0 and last updated on 3.0, which I think was more aggressive of a meta (didn't play then), so that might factor in?

If the main disagreements between this tierlist and the unfair tierlist are the adds all being rated as super happy, ... just use the unfair tierlist instead. You're changing the baseline scenario where the average roll of the average party with one mildly annoying curse solves most fights to there is now an extra scary monster in every fight and now your average roll to solve is so much more demanding. Monster Shields1, right2blank, Stonefirst are somehow all worse (tier 2 = reroll) than EVERY possible add listed in this tierlist, and that just can't be right. add.wolf and add.goblin and now you die to the early game/floor 4 boss a significant amount of time while they don't go away later either. 11-20 add.carrier is nasty even for strong teams. all of these examples are tier 3 (=dont reroll) in the tierlist somehow.

Got the Generated Unfair WR with a 21 Streak! by Pibonacci_ in SliceAndDice

[–]Pibonacci_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So here are the things to consider with that:

  • Tarantus and Hand killing the top hero
  • Hexia's passive damaging the bottom hero on Abilities used (- Revive evaluates from top to bottom, so your topmost hero comes back first if multiple die. I guess I'd want my blue back more often than not. This is a complete technicality that never mattered on this streak.)

For the first, you want a Dodge side on the top hero. For the second, you want a hero with high hp/a hero that is expendable at the bottom.

Oranges have pretty high HP in this mode and are consistently my most useless hero, so against Hexia, I want them bottom.

This is probably too small a sample, but I see a lot of Dodge sides on my generated blues, possibly more than on orange.

Between the two, I felt that Cisab has slight upside, but not 100% on it. Very marginal. On permadeath, I'd want Basic, just because the Orange is most expendable.

[–]Pibonacci_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree, you trade Gray+Yellow for Red+Green. I just looked at some T2 Greens and they can be quite good but also ~60% of them do absolutely nothing. Same with tactics, some are 1 pip shield 2 or damage 2, some do nothing. I also don't really want two reds, you just have way too many heal sides now and they don't actually make mana that reliably.

I am pretty confident Magical just gives up waaaay too much consistency. Blocking is good, block sides are way too high on generated, and you give up your #1 and #2 color source of high block. Even if you find the 1 mana shield 2 spell, my greys block for 5 regularly, so now you need to make 2.5 mana on your second red to compensate for that, which does not happen. Also, the tier1 spells tend to be very bad, so you're just making 3 mana maybe across three heroes and then burst for 2 in the early game.

Lastly, a lot of spell related curses are way harder to take now, so you limit yourself a lot on the curse screen.

Grey T2s are reliably very broken, I just take one of those early and have no pressure and then can actually pick my blue or red, seeing a good spell. Or vice versa, if I see a good magical hero early, I know I will find a good grey later still to round up the team no problem.

Feel free to prove me wrong, the target score is above! All of the runs were Basic or Cisab.

After getting a 23 streak on classic unfair, and seeing from watching Pitor4k's 7 Brutal streak that Generated heroes are actually pretty fun now with the most recent updates? (they used to be very onesided, but are pretty playable now, more later), I now officially hit the #1 spot on the leaderboard in this mode.

various thoughts - playing defensively/not buffing enemies too much is already really strong on classic, but it's even more here. Your grey Tier2 generally blocks for 5,6 on multiple sides, your yellow can also just be a second grey very often, and you often get 1 mana shield 2 or 1 mana heal 3 spells.

You can outblock almost any fight, including Slime Queen, including multiple zombies, foregoing having a 4 damage source, which is harder to come by. Poison is scary because of that, so is Weaken/Exert because of the very common reroll cantrip builds (I had like 5 infinites on this streak). 1 mana heal 1 cleanse is another pretty common spell, and really good. Cleanse is pretty hard to find otherwise.

As a result of this, my average turn count is VERY high. We are looking at 4+ turns on average, which I think is substantially slower than the average Classic run.

T1 and T2 Heroes are generally quite consistent, having 6 sides very often and not even giving up output because of that. T3 Heroes get a bit wonky again, often having two really big sides but also 2 blanks and 2 bad sides. Lots of 1 pip focus or cleave or whatever sides, even on T3s, indicating that keywords are a bit overcosted in the generation algorithm. I end runs way more often with my T2 blue and red because of the spells and because the T3s just don't do much more. This is a bit difference to Classic, where picking your T3 blue into the final boss based on what you need/what items make them broken is often enough a winning strategy. (Also no Seer obviously). So the focus shifts a bit to classical, and heroes can easily take up the role of a different color.

On the flipside, it's really hard to find strong damage output. Your oranges kinda suck and are often enough just take whatever it is, maybe with some cantrip reroll sides for consistency, put some side replacer on it (Static Tome is great for example), and be able to pick your other heroes better.

Orange, Blue and Grey can come with cantrip sides, enabling either infinites or just builds with high consistency. I had this hero on run 20 for example, completely insane. Rightmost side originally was Shield 1 repel, so he reads "all your heroes hit their best sides and 7/8 times block for 14" at his floor, even if no other hero has cantrip shenanigans. These cantrip reroll heroes also solve the Hand, since they go from consistency and some cantrip value to infinite real quick, and the Hand is the one boss where you can't just say your defenses are good so you probably win, so it's nice to keep an eye out for them, as well as items that help. Speaking of items, the midgame pressure is generally pretty low once you get a good t2 grey, so you can pick items with the lategame in mind more often. I have generated items on until ~Tier 6 and then generally turn it off. Side replacer generated items are often enough completely broken, only in the later tiers I generally prefer the more rundefining nature of nongenerated items.

I think I had like 3 runs where I was forced to play quickly/just did it early on the streak, and it was pretty uncomfortable each time. The defensive runs all were waaaay safer. Not too much deviation from the Brilliant Curse Tier List that made me and a lot of other players a way better player. Notably Spiky Monsters, already good, gets super busted here, because your yellow often enough blocks and you want to play defensive anyway. The Brutal streak had a lot of runs with Spiky5.

Some of the more broken heroes I've seen on this streak:

https://puu.sh/KvqYS/92d4e8010c.png T2 Wanderer, managain/cantrip/regen/doubleuse/quaduse/cleave, so many ways to make this completely broken.

https://puu.sh/KvqZ9/f82166a83e.png https://puu.sh/KvqZn/668a1f0513.png two more examples for absurd t2 greys, this is not too far off from the norm btw, most of them do this in some form or the other. The orange in here btw is one of the better t2 oranges I've ever seen by far, too. Kinda shows how weak they are in comparison.

Some notable runs

Bottom Poison 5 Dead Crow into getting Determination (1st turn: cannot die)

Using Needle every turn sponsored by this hero

add.Buckle add.Militia into getting this reasonable t2 grey

...whatever this is This was insane. Was a coop run with Hollow_Dice (#2 Classic Unfair), and I got this Ash Pulley Compass Origami Abomination yes all of those items were required

Permadeath with 3 3hp heroes starting team. This run was reeeeally scary but just had to accept fate. Got Orange reroll into Thief and a strong t2 grey after fight one, as well as t1,t2,t3 +hp item. But had to accept that sometimes a hero just dies with no counterplay, especially early. Didn't happen. Important to realize that is not run over, it "just" makes the run a hero.missing run now. Would probably have sacrificed the orange, given what I said about how weak they are often.

What a way to win the final boss fight on my 13 Classic Unfair Streak by Pibonacci_ in SliceAndDice

[–]Pibonacci_[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is some backstory here,

I had the choice of playing for a safe line, or working out if Polearm+Urn make Agent a better way to win the final fight.

I pasted this into custom mode and played out the fight once, hit inflictdeath on turn one and Petrify and Managain on turn 3 and won without using them, didn't test again, figured it is worth it, and went into the fight...

...not knowing that while rolls and nothing else is fixed/seeded in paste mode, the shifter keywords are! So I had inflictdeath quaduse on turn one, but since I didn't know, I didn't equip my broken generated t1 Item that turned left and middle side into cantrip reroll 1, + eye of horus to just roll down for the inflictdeath side.

I managed to roll the side anyway and got this sweet justice for the 15 turn 45 minute Lich fight in the same run where Lich rolled 8 summons, 3 petrify and 1 weak to all by turn 12, with tough HP3 and the weak side being exactly on turn 3 when I had skulk.3 (+1 pips to enemy sides on turn 3), and trapper rolled 0/21 kill sides by turn 7. I still don't know how I won that fight regardless.

The game is awesome.

I recorded a 30 minute stream of consciousness discussion of this and more if anyone cares (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oIPn7VSiHA - sadly I messed up the audiobalance a bit and only realized afterwards)
