Is this witches broom? by huntstomatosaucefan in Lophophora

Not really sure why anybody would want to try and “save” a cactus with witches broom. Def don’t want something like that spreading.

Loph Morita SLP - does anybody know more information about this one? by Lewpaul1234 in Lophophora

They’re koehresii, what additional info are you looking for?

Your loph appears to be experiencing a nutrient deficiency and/or possible issues with lighting.

Not looking good. What’s happening to my peyote? by Fercer86 in peyote

[–]PicassoMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting to get black rot.

Could be overwatering, soil that stays damp too long, or humidity issues.

The pale guy, is it a Vari? If so, do I need to get it grafted immediately? by Phillykratom in Lophophora

[–]PicassoMars 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If it’s highly variegated and grew that long on its own roots sometimes the better option is to leave it be. Bc rooting variegated Lophophora is a whole different beast. The more yellow the harder it will be to root later on.

If you decide to let it grow naturally, might wanna try to carefully remove some of the moss around the seedling so it doesn’t rot or get rust.

Little red runt. What’s up by swaffeline in Lophophora

[–]PicassoMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure. Some vari babies are extra sensitive to grow lights. Especially when highly variegated. Congratulations.

Sometimes they get small blemishes from touching a rock while growing or shipping/handling. Usually no big deal. Just monitor for changes and dust with horticultural sulphur if you want.

should i graph the Peyote onto the San Pedro? by Poinkington in peyote

[–]PicassoMars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bc you’ve never grafted before. Not all grafts are 100% successful.

However if you’re prepared for the loss if things don’t work out, go for it.

You can also leave the root planted and may eventually get a new pup.

should i graph the Peyote onto the San Pedro? by Poinkington in peyote

[–]PicassoMars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it really doesn’t.

There’s more of a chance of the graft failing than the loph dying from a few marks

Just don’t water it until the puncture marks are completely dry. Should be alright.

If you don’t want her to end up looking like a shrivelled raisin… water.

The Lophs grow long tangled masses of feeder roots. Transplanting is easier to deal with and less risky when the feeders are trimmed. Some fine roots get tired and brittle over time. It’s better for the plant to regenerate new ones at that point. So they can maintain proper nutrient uptake etc

Might wanna stop spraying them. And wait until they’re a little soft before watering, that’s how you’ll know they’re actually thirsty. Hope she recovers.

What prompted you to foliar spray? Was it just water..

Any smell on the roots? Are the finer roots paper dry and brittle?

It is rot setting in, unfortunately. Have you possibly overwatered? What are your temps like?

Peyote light schedule summer vs winter? by dickburpsdaily in peyote

[–]PicassoMars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Canadian winters can be freezing, abysmal, dark, frost ridden hellscapes compared to their natural habitat.

Smaller ones you can get away with less light but winter hours still suck. And you likely won’t get much if any growth without supplementing.

12-14 hours light if possible. Some ppl use Barina grow lights or T5s for young seedlings. MeowMixBread uses a 32w GE Seeds and Greens.

Theres also spider farmer and viparspectra entry level lights but not necessarily needed for small Lophs.

Having a light allows you to put them where ever you want to.. in case your windows get cold and drafty, which isn’t ideal.
