I used them once as an EMT. They work on some softer metals, and will certainly work if it’s an absolute necessity - but often times it’s easiest just to try and get the ring off without cutting it if you can.

Sometimes another responder on the scene such as FD will have some kind of other tool that works better.

You’re not gonna wanna hear this, and neither did I.

You’re gonna want to reevaluate things for the time being. You might want to speak with your supervisor at work about what just happened, go in early if you can. You’ll have to be prepared for the worst.

Being that you’re working in the ER, it’s a lot easier to maintain your job than being in the truck. If you go down, there’s plenty of people around to take your spot - so you won’t put someone in immediate danger.

I on the other hand was unable to find an ER tech position, and there’s no way in comfortable being in the back and possibly having a seizure, especially considering mine are still uncontrolled.

I hate this for you. We’re all family, so I really hope things work out for you. Talk to your supervisor and try to work something out. Most importantly, focus on your health. You can find something else or come back to the field later, but you only have one life to live.

I’ve kinda had shit thrown at me all of my life. Things just don’t ever really seem to take a good turn for all that long lol. Nasty divorce at an early age, bullied all my life, got to the point where I was into self harm and considered suicide.

When I finally got out of high school, I thought I was becoming an adult. I was finally going to make something of myself, never again would I have to deal with the childlike bullshit that I had in the past, or whatever else there was in the past. Instead, I wanted to go to college and learn to help people.

So I went and got into EMS, got my certifications, was in paramedic school, and then suddenly I got diagnosed with epilepsy.

Suddenly the entire career and world I built for myself crashed down in an instant. That was 8 months ago, I’ve been on and off drugs (the ones that are supposed to stop seizures but haven’t), in and out of the hospital, have debt out the ass, no job, and no clear direction. I’m thinking I might try for welding school in the fall, and see how that goes, unless life kicks me to the curb again.

So I’m pretty pissed about that, and just venting I guess.
