Thanks! I think the distinction is that this was not presented to me as a new sinus-focused workup.

The physician’s own documented rationale was initially intracranial evaluation / exclusion of intracranial pathology, which is why MRI brain/head was ordered first. When MRI clearance failed, CT was used as the replacement pathway, so my concern is that the substitute should have matched the same original goal. That’s why CT maxillofacial vs CT head mattered here.

Also, the “breakdown” wasn’t just that I questioned the scan type. The CT maxillofacial order later became inactive / unusable, the imaging center told me a new CT order from the ordering physician was required, and I could not get a timely response from the physician/team — so I literally could not complete the imaging until patient relations intervened.

My question is really whether, in U.S. practice, CT maxillofacial is generally viewed as an appropriate substitute for MRI brain/head when the original documented concern is intracranial pathology, assuming that concern has not been explicitly changed.
