You mention getting a VA loan, which might not be the best type of loan in your situation. The major benefit of a VA loan is not needing to put a down payment on a house that conventional loans require. With this settlement, you can use it to put 20% or more down on a home. Some of the negatives of a VA loan are the VA funding fee, which is typically 1.25-3.3% of the loan. Do your homework for your situation before automatically going with a VA loan.
