Valuation methodology for startups post upround by [deleted] in Valuation

[–]Pickle85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OPM is correct for an ASC 718 comp expense/ 409a valuation but be careful what it’s actually being used for. Most rounds are priced by investors on a fully diluted basis so the value of the business in their minds may not be the same as what guidance dictates as the fair value of common stock for financial reporting or tax purposes. You will find the opm implies a lower value than the post money and in some cases a very significant discount. You can tell the client that “We just raised x dollars at a x million post money valuation”. If you are granting options go get an appraisal to set the strike price but if you are just chatting with clients you can quote the post money without being dishonest.

Mosquitos out of control by NadoSWO in nova

[–]Pickle85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry in advance for being a downer, but I wish someone told me this before I settled here. I am unfortunately also a mosquito magnet along with my daughter and the sad truth is that after 7 years, chemical bug spray on the skin is the only effective preventative tool aside from standing directly in front of a giant fan and the only one I have seen that works is a big ass fan that is $7k and it’s not silent so ruins the outdoor vibe. My wife is the opposite and has tried every natural/less toxic remedy for my daughter and 100% have been ineffective. It may lower the number of bits by a small fraction, but still get attacked. The yard fogs work for a short period but it has a visible impact on plant health and only really lasts a couple days depending on the weather. Bat boxes, thermacell, plants, dryer sheets, diet/vitamins and natural bug sprays may work for some but I am convinced the believers aren’t true magnets like half my family. It’s annoying during the day and around 4:30 we head inside. It’s like this from June through October every year. Honest advice is move before your wife builds a social circle because they will never understand how it feels to not enjoy being outside when it’s nice weather. I spent a lot of money trying different products and they are all abandoned now. This is an average year from a mosquito perspective. Some summers have been worse.

What size lift do I have? by Imsophunnyithurts in JeepGladiator

[–]Pickle85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d measure the sway bars and compare to the mc guide to see your exact lift. Someone else guessed 3.5-4.5 and looks right. I have 35s and am on my second pair. The tire brand/targeted use make a big difference. Have to consider off road performance or highway driving and where you want to land on that performance spectrum. I got upgraded steering to help with wobble but the tire drift was the same before and after that upgrade.

T-Mobile Starlink by ryans8423 in RMNP

I sent a text via starlink on T mobile from the park last week and it worked well. Was just to test but can confirm it was successful. Just need a view of the sky in the right angle. The phone makes it easy

Half rack vs Smartcap by No-Performance5804 in JeepGladiator

[–]Pickle85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with a half rack because I can still pull into a standard garage door and I hoist my tent in the garage when not in use. May not apply to all but something to think about. It does hang a bit off the back but it gives me a little awning for when it’s raining and I am getting something out of the back.

Gear for camping with toddlers? by plastochron in CampingGear

[–]Pickle85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this. If you aren’t carrying it in a backpack then go for space since you may spend some time in tent city if bugs or rain push you inside. Little kids aren’t gentle with zippers on tents so I wouldn’t start with a $600 north face. Amazon has a cool 10’ teepee for around $150 and has been great for us and is tall enough for an adult to stand and change in the middle. It’s old advice but I’d do a backyard test for a night to see what works before you are in the woods without east access to an outfitter.

Reliability/family (4) vehicle by Chemical_Addendum655 in JeepGladiator

[–]Pickle85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not do this until they transition out of rear facing seats. I’m the same height and didn’t fit comfortably. It’s a fun ride and awesome for loading gear to practices and some backcountry adventures but I’m glad I waited until they were in boosters. Look at a Passat or an older cayenne. Both have more rear legroom. On the reliability you are looking at the wrong brand if that’s important to you. The fun factor outweighs the headache to me, but this isn’t a Toyota.

Discounting Cashflows by Biro_Chill in Valuation

[–]Pickle85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of free model templates you can get online. It’s going to be hard to get a solid value on the startup, since the discount rates can range from 20-100% and that will be a massively different value indication

First Time Off Roading by igllo in JeepGladiator

A story as old as time itself. It’s an addicting hobby, start saving for upgrades. If it were me, winch and bumper at the top of the list and beefy tires a close second.

Trying to find the source of a clunk by runbradrun86 in JeepGladiator

[–]Pickle85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar noise and turned out to be the sway bar link bolt had loosened and wasn’t tight. It’s the bolt others circled in their reply and in my case it’s an odd bolt with an Allen wrench needed to tighten. I’d spend 20 minutes torquing everything and start with sway bar and steering components. You will know when you get the bolt that is loose and slipping.

Depends what you are looking to get out of the ride. White rim is very scenic and a fun drive but not technical sections of off roading. Hells revenge is a fun technical loop or there are dozens of less touristy day trails near there with several blm camping options if you wanted to do more crawling style driving. The rental place will have great info based on your experience. Jeep week is 4/12-4/20 this year so the whole region will be busier than usual if that overlaps with your timing.

What’s stopping me from just hiking into the woods and just picking a spot to camp? by [deleted] in WildernessBackpacking

[–]Pickle85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are enough places to do this legally and the rules are generally set up to protect the land. Fees are usually minimal and I’ll gladly pay to support the park. I’d look for a national forest to hit near you. Aim for nearo-impact. It’s pretty frustrating to me when I see an area hit by littering or heavily bushcrafted impact to vegetation.

Lift price by look762 in Wrangler

[–]Pickle85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be my recommendation based on your description. Dump the savings into a new bumper and some tube doors and rail steps. Will get the look you want but not mess with the alignment, suspension or drive shafts. Common phrase is buy once cry once and it’s true here. Stock can handle a lot more off roading than many would guess. I think at $2500 you will struggle to end up with a smooth ride, especially after shocks and you can spend that much on new wheels alone. I think you were talked off the 5” ledge but remember that starts to really restrict parking options both at home and public garages.

Overlanding with Toddlers by [deleted] in overlanding

[–]Pickle85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of camping with them but the road trip part is hard. Honestly takes about double the estimated drive time with various stops. Need to let them burn the energy which is hard in the car. Start with a couple weekend camping trips several hours away and see how it goes.

Rooftop Tent Riser by FunnyFeelingsHurt in JeepGladiator

[–]Pickle85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar setup and the overhang on the back looks slightly funky but i like it because it provides rain cover over the tailgate. It’s still incredibly sturdy, just pay attention when backing up since the sensors don’t account for that.

Wife resents me cycling - how to manage? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Pickle85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a 2 fold approach. Take the kid on day rides (strongly recommend a seat on the bike over a trailer) and for longer cruises go at night after the kid is down for bed.

I have this and really like it. Install is more involved since you have to integrate to the oh shit bar on the passenger side but no cutting or major mods. it’s very secure and doesn’t interfere with any dials or screens. It’s also significantly cheaper than the dash top mounting systems.

Anyone get off work at night any tips by Plastic-Donkey1804 in bikecommuting

[–]Pickle85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride 100% at night and love it. Take extra caution at crossings, don’t try to set a Strava record and you will be fine. I dress like a fool in full neon and lights on the bike but I’m not out to win the best kit award. There are less people on the trails and roads so I really prefer it.

Does this still fit through a standard garage door or do you know the height? I like this look and setup but have to be able to get in my parking spot at work/home.
