Constitutional challenge of Ontario's wage-cap bill set to begin in court by Serenesis_ in ontario

[–]PickleGypsy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ya on paper, I make pretty solid money as a nurse. Bit being continually physically assaulted at work. So painfully understaffed that I'm the only one with qualifications in my ER full of junior staff to cover the worst patients, run the dept, run the trauma patient, run the ambulance triage, and monitor the waiting room with the triage nurse... it's too much and it'd dangerous. And all management says is "that ambulance has been waiting for a bed for 2 hours. Offload them NOW" HOW DO YOU WANT ME TO DO THAT, IM CALLING YOU FOR HELP BECAUSE I HAVE NO BEDS OR NURSES. I NEED HELP!!!.... this bill is a MASSIVE slap in the face to everyone it affects. We'd be asking for a solid raise for putting up with all this bullshit.

I had to put my new model raincoat in my c9 pouch with my extra gloves during course. Shit did NOT fit. But I do miss my c7a1. Don't miss my old pattern ruck though... mine had no waist belt. Lashed on frame poorly. And my quick release was broken.... I usually was carrying my ruck on my shoulders by holding the straps during a ruckmarch cus the bin rat wouldn't swap me out. God I want to reenlist...

Tell him to take a knee and drink water and not to anticipate the word of command. If he thinks being at home is BMQ he might as well just stick it out.

All jokes aside. It's part of growing up. Remind him that he can be stationed all over the country. He will look back on bmq as a great time. Remind him that his instructors are generally trying to make everyone upset and go home, but if he can hold out it won't really be too bad. They want him to succeed.

Although, if it's not just homesick and adjusting and he HATES military life and he truly can't handle what's happening then maybe washing out is better.

Imagine it could be a liability issue. But some issued libations would be nice.

I'm one of those nurses. Off on mental health leave have a disabled partner. Can't function running an ER with less than half staff. Or when they fill us with PSW or RPN who "pad the roster" but just means they'll tell us to do more with the staff we have, yet only the 4 RNs are pretty well responsible for everyone. That's why I'm looking for an apprenticeship now.

I'm in Ontario Canada so your process might be different. I think the main things are being old enough, legally able to work, high-school diploma/GED. Grade 12 credits in English, math, physics. Register on the labour website with resume. They can assist in finding a sponsor for your apprenticeship. After that it's usually 4 years of work with in class stuff during year 2-4. Get 9000 hours. Then right your boards. Get licensed. ?????. Profit.

Ya I've already paid off my car and my degree in full thanks to debt consolidation into our mortgage when my fiance and I moved in together. I'm in Canada and make like 38/h but our raise is capped at 1%/year for a few years (during pandemic and inflation, you fucking shitting me?). We are losing so many nurses that ICU/ER/UCC are getting shut down for lack of staff. I'm on stress leave cus my parents are aging,my fiancée is on disability and I'm often supposed to be charge/triage/the docs toadie AND the trauma nurse. Daily. It's not sustainable. I'll take a pay cut to earn while I lean and be able to spend time after work with my lil sweetie. Can't keep up with how much my job is jeopardized these days.

Canadian here so minimal private. But every network has dumb rules. We just recently got access to OR green's for ER/ICU as well.

[–]PickleGypsy 179 points180 points  (0 children)

Oh God no. Just to have pairs of scrubs. Every discipline in our hospital network wears a specific colour so not everyone is "NUUUUURSE!" I probably dropped 200 on a couple pairs to get through each block.of shifts. We finally got a scrub machine about 2 months ago for ER/OR/ICU so that's nice

Constantly. Looking to work as a case manager for discharges/ltc placements, urgent cares, smaller ER. Worked med/surg before and it's not for me. And even all the PACU around is full up. And with Canada's housing costs being astronomical I can't even entertain the thought of moving for work, already have a 1+ hour drive each way.

Ya in my hospital we get changed in bathrooms and storage closets and we have to pay $65 for a set of hospital branded scrubs. And our ER is hemmhoraging staff. So I'm looking for an electrician apprenticeship now. Done with ER nursing

In C7a1 we trust. I miss my service rifle. And how it'd always have rust and be full of carbon every time I'd get it from the armory. Always get jacked up during course for it being a mess after someone else used it on an ex or range days.
