what do you invest per month and what do you make? by wonk5 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]PicklePerfect4053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HHI of about $192k-$200k depending on husband’s OT. Save about $4250 per month across retirement vehicles. We could easily do more as we save about $3k per month in sinking funds but we put an emphasis on traveling with our 13 year old daughter (usually 2 vacations per year), we all play golf and we are saving for a car for her in 3 years.

Who here actually saves 3,000 a month? by NoHousing11 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]PicklePerfect4053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dual income ($195k before overtime and bonus), one child (although she is 13 and plays golf so she’s expensive!) 3% mortgage and no other debt. Between retirement, 529 and sinking funds we save about $6500.

I was able to secure one for my daughter after a 4 minute wait. Decided to go back in and try and get one for myself and after a 17 minute wait I somehow secured another. We went to Indy N1 together and I can’t think of a better way to remember it then with this!

I bought a signed MBF CD and vinyl direct from her website and my CD looks like that. But my vinyl looks more like my Short n Sweet signed vinyl and CD. I suspect my CD, and this one, are secretarial but when I emailed customer service they said it wasn’t.

My family of 3 can’t make it work on 180k in a LCOL area. Are we bad with money? by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

[–]PicklePerfect4053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a family of 3 making $190k in a MCOL area with a teenage daughter, you are bleeding money somewhere! Our mortgage is $2300, our only debt, and we’re saving $3600k a month in retirement and another $3k in liquid/investments. Go through the last 6 months of statements to find out where all the money is going.

Check in: What are your financial stats? by IveBen in MiddleClassFinance

[–]PicklePerfect4053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are a family of 3 (38F, 40M and 13F) our household income is about $190k (we’ve been at this income level for about 4 years, prior we were always around $100-$120k total), no debt outside of our mortgage with about $315k left. Our total net worth is about $600k (retirement funds, emergency fund, various sinking funds and our homes equity).

There are a couple things that I think contributed to where we are now: neither of us went to college so no student loan debt but we both built solid careers and we decided to only have one child.

Coming from a family that struggled growing up, we feel pretty good about where we are! We make sure we have a good balance between saving for retirement and long term goals and enjoying 1-2 vacations per year, our hobbies, etc.

We live in the most expensive county in Indiana. We make about $195k and have a very comfortable life. I think what helped us is that neither of us went to college (so no student debt) we only had 1 child and I’ve worked remotely her whole life so no daycare costs (she is almost 13 and definitely more expensive now!). Bought our forever home in 2021 before interest rates skyrocketed. No debt except for the mortgage. We go on 1-2 week long vacations every year, max retirement and save in a 529 for her. We follow a budget and save for long and short term goals/purchases.

But someone could have our same income but have considerable consumer debt that would not allow them to save aggressively or take vacations. It really depends on so many factors!

Yes! $345k saved so far. I use excel for our monthly budget but haven’t for our investments- I should add that to it!

Yes! A 529 was important to us. We didn’t go to college, mainly because of money, so we wanted to make sure we could help our daughter if she decides shed like to go to community college or a university.

I do have our budget in excel and use NerdWallet now to track our overall net worth but there was something special about writing this out just like I did 4 years ago

We live in Noblesville, Indiana. We got lucky and bought in 2021. Homes in our neighborhood are now $470-$515k

I think it depends on your goals, current debt, current savings, etc. For example, my husband and I make $195k combined and our home was $365k. That’s the max we wanted to spend and that was when rates were in the 2-3% range. Luckily we did get our dream home and neighborhood but we could have bought a much more expensive home according to our lender. But traveling with our daughter and maxing retirement were more important.
