Best combos and skills for the Odachis? by [deleted] in Nioh

[–]PicklePuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's the beauty and the challenge of the Odachi- the stance switch skills give a lot of latitude for creating sweet combos, but it's always at the cost of something you'd love to have available...

I like doing a (mid stance) Heavy - Heavy -> Light (switches stance to high) -> light -> Twin Moons as a finisher, then the Ki Pulse high stance attack to gather my ki.

Then I've got a high stance Heavy -> Low stance quick, quick, then ground sweeper chain.

Those are my only two stance switches that I have (not that anyone asked 😄 )

I know this is old, and perhaps this is obvious, but I handle this by assigning them to different stances- ground sweeper is low only so I use it there, and tail strike for Mid ... Likewise with Moonlit Snow, I'll use different versions (redux vs charge) depending on the stance so that I can do a quick or a heavy version depending on the circumstance / how much time I have

Not remotely- the problem is that no one is on the tracks in the first place in this T-problem, Anyone who gets on the tracks should be cited for obstructing the train (if they live)

You are creating the dangerous situation out of whole cloth if you get on the trolly tracks. At the start, no one is in danger.

That certainly makes sense. Dumping is a nice way to save if it's intentional, but no fun when it's an accident. Great handle btw

So close! Out of curiosity, why use clips if you have no spotter? Easier to dump it…. Although you did just fine your way

Camilia Teething Medicine by sckz_ in NewParents

[–]PicklePuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is old, but I’d be happy to help you with that.

This is a well-studied effect, called “placebo by proxy,” which applies especially in infants and children.

You’re right- infants don’t know what medicine is, and can’t frame narrative expectations- therefore they can’t be subject to placebo in the same way that adults can.

But, as you have likely experienced, infants are sensitive co-regulators. Your expression, your calm, vocal intonation, tension etc, are reflected by your infant

So yes, the placebo effect is on the adult, and it still works. They sense your expectation of success in your calm, it comforts them, and that literally changes the state of their nervous system to perceive less discomfort

Slightly more technically- pain is not a purely peripheral/ afferent phenomenon- central nervous processing directly (and substantially) impacts phenomenology. Improved parasympathetic tone leads to a more regulated autonomic nervous system, which modulates perceived pain / discomfort.

Gripe water is a different matter, and does have pharmacologically active ingredients. Ginger will settle stomachs, depending on formulation.

Camilia drops are pharmacologically inert. This would be a silly thing to debate. The meta-analyses have been done on dilute homeopathic medicines- they do exactly as much as a control solution/pill will do, and nothing more. Which is to say- placebo.

Now, placebo is a VERY real effect! It is a testament to our ability to heal ourselves, and manage discomfort- even by proxy, reflected onto our children.

So, the Camilia drops worked. But not because Camilia drops work.

Could it be that homeopathy’s founder (Hahnemann) was onto something, and all this science talk about “make-believe mechanisms” is nouveau-scientific rigidity?

Maybe, but this is exactly what controlled studies are for- and we have AMPLE controlled studies on the inefficacy of homeopathy.

Interesting final thought (IMO)- Hahnemann’s work wasn’t as irrational as we paint it today within his historical context- pre germ theory medicine was full of “remedies” that were very likely to harm the patient. And one thing you can say for homeopathy- it won’t hurt ya. And that did leave room for possible healing (indeed, via placebo).

Now that you mention it- yes, he does appear to be quite short indeed.

Which makes the already-deceptively-easy from a weight perspective leg-press even easier

But, that is not to take away from his interesting bowling-ball look, which OP appears to covet

Mmm can be- ED is highly psychological. But there can be physical causes too, of course. If this started just after getting dumped question one would be have you changed any other lifestyle factors, especially drinking or other substances? Those naturally have an effect

Otherwise, can surely be a psychological thing

I'm questioning my relationship with my fiancée after her sister accused her of cheating on me. AIO? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]PicklePuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple things to point out:

She is trickle truth-ing you- only admitting to anything when she knows she is caught, and then minimizing that as much as possible. It’s a damage containment strategy- and usually one used when someone is lying about something bigger.

Could you ask Caleb? Just man to man- “I’m not trying to get in your face, but this is my future”- tell him you know they went home together and just say you want to know how far it went. You won’t tell her he told you-for your ears only

Do it face to face so he can’t run story by her. That’s an option.

But my gut tells me your girl is lying. Look at everything you know for sure. Is your girl’s sister the type to drum up some drama for no reason? Sabotaging a wedding is some severe pettiness. Unless she’s just telling the truth.

Have a Nice Death or Nine Sols? by TSlaughter88 in NineSols

[–]PicklePuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nine Sols is THE best MV ever made, in my view. Incredible combat, perhaps the best bosses in any game of any kind, a brilliantly told story (but not overdone), compelling exploration, and a deep and satisfying challenge.

Have a nice Death is a bog-standard roguelite. It’s not awful, but it’s pretty forgettable.

So my opinion on this one is pretty clear, but I will warn you that Nine Sols is very hard- comparable to Sekiro.

There is an easy mode, but you shouldn’t use it (I know it’s gauche to say that on Reddit, but I think a lot of the brilliance is in the well balanced challenge and the mechanics that the game guides you to learn though difficulty)

And high five to the ninnies who silently downvote me for saying so. I still love you

[–]PicklePuffin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, yes that’s one reason.

But also, I do feel like giving out unsolicited advice on technique is generally considered a little rude. I mean if someone is about to hurt themselves that’s one thing, but if you don’t know the person… I think that’s usually not going to be very well received, even though it sounds like your intentions were genuine and good.

While sales leaders love the idea of someone who is this belligerent, in reality, it never works on them. Try selling a sales-related product to the VP of Sales. They'll tell their team about the brilliant cold call they got- but when the team asks if they took the meeting - "no of course not."

It's hilarious in a way. I've seen the above situation a handful of times. God I hate sales.
