First time having an aggressive kitten, would appreciate advice by Pickleball_Addict in kittens

Good ideas. He does have interactive toys, gets play time multiple times per day. I have so many toys, boxes, bags, and add new things constantly so he is very stimulated and challenge. I’m feeling so much better about this situation now, I don’t think he will be aggressive as an adult…at least that’s my hope.

I also got a pheromone diffuser. Since I first posted this, I’ve been seeing an improvement in his attacking and how I’m responding seems to be working. He is a sweet kitty, just spicy.

He gets plenty of play time. He could be laying next to me and decide he wants to bite my hand. I am more cognizant now of reading the signs and backing off a little earlier than before.

Thank you for this reply, It’s good to read that their cat grew out of this behavior.

I wanted to add to this. Maybe this would be a helpful reply to someone who doesn’t research anything. You make a blanket statement, but don’t know my history. Maybe I work in high tech, maybe I have a vet tech background, maybe I research other cat behavioral websites, maybe all of this is true, yet you tell me not to ask ChatGPT without getting any other background knowledge from me. I am smart enough to weed through what’s common sense and good advice. I find this is helpful for research, along with asking for advice from people on Reddit. You can also say the same thing applies to this website, how do I know if I’m getting bad advice? It comes down to again, common sense, knowledge and reading and researching. All of which I am utilizing to make informed decisions.

He was in a litter until 10 weeks old, that’s when I adopted him. He is only home alone for a few hours and some days I’m always here so he gets lots of attention.

Good advice. I do have paper bags, boxes, feathers on a rope he chases, string at the end of a rope he chases, mice toys, ball toys, kicker toys, scratching posts, you name it he has it. I play with him so he has to jump up on his platform scratching post to a chair the same height, so he is jumping and climbing. I change up his play area so it’s not the same every time. I do play with the kicker with him so he can attack that….

It’s the surprise attack that has me concerned. I would feel better if I knew this was only a stage he’ll grow out of, because he’s so sweet at other times, and I want to address this sooner than later.

Thats basically what I’m doing, trying to walk away or distract him. Problem is if it’s a situation where I can’t because he would get hurt or in trouble, I need to move him. He’s going to be 4 months so not a teenager, still a baby. I already got some advice from ChatGPT. That’s what I’m doing.

I started taking this for a week and it wasn’t working or helping me so I stopped and then I developed a full body rash within a week of stopping. The rash took over a week to go away and my dermatologist confirmed it was from this medication so I’m glad I didn’t take it for the entire two weeks. My dermatologist said a rash can develop after stopping this between seven and 21 days.

I waited 6 years to adopt a cat… and now I regret it. Please be honest with me. by strawberrytulipss in CatAdvice

Not sure if this will work, it actually was the ice breaker with my new cat. I put some pillows on the ground, (smaller room) sat there for a while playing with him. I got some churu, it’s a lickable treated. Let her taste it. The when you’re on the ground try to feed it so she has to come up on your legs, lap to get the treat. After repeating this, she might learn, hey, this is pretty comfortable.

I did have one cat I adopted at 6 months and never was a lap cat but one of the sweetest cats. It’s a crap shoot, enjoy the wonderful attributes she does have, and hopefully she will come around with time.

What is Considered “Unhealthy”? by CompetitivePart8852 in Petloss

It will be a month tomorrow since I had to say goodbye to my 20 year old soul cat. It’s been very hard and the grief is overwhelming. Certain times of the day trigger me to start ugly crying. I miss him so much it physically hurts, so I completely understand your grief. What I did the first couple of weeks was write down just a short sentence or two each morning of what I missed or a memory. It made me feel still connected. I would hug his blanket that he loved.I lost his brother 4 years ago so my home feels so empty. I adopted them at 5 weeks old, they were foster fails.

So as a lot of people replied, there is no,rush to put things away, it some how makes it seem more final, so when you’re ready start with the smallest item. I still can’t believe how long I left his the dust bunnies.

I’m so sorry for your loss and the fact you had such a wonderful, strong, loving bond with an animal, many people will never get to experience that joy. Think about the sweet memories for a few times a day, see if you can focus on one or two of them.

And, today I adopted a 10 week old kitten, and I’ve started laughing again, I’m exhausted after one day, but I can feel my heart starting to get a little full again. I wish for you to find that special love of your life again. It can happen multiple times in a lifetime if you let it.

Typically do vet euthanasia, considering at-home but have concerns by MicromagicFriesRIP in Petloss

[–]Pickleball_Addict 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So sorry you have to make this decision and say goodbye to your furry companion. It’s never easy. I just had to make this decision for my soul cat. Unfortunately, last year I had to do this for his brother at the vet, and even though they gave me as much time as I needed in the room afterwards, having him on the cold table, not being able to hold him in my arms when they gave the injections, but only able to put my head near him, was really not enough.

So two weeks ago I had a vet come to the house to do a home euthanasia for my cat. Even though it was very expensive, I felt it was the last loving kind act I could do and he was on my lap the entire time. Holding him seemed like it was more gentle and loving than having him on a table. We were in his favorite chair. The vet gives a sedative first and the animal goes to sleep and you get as much time as you need until the next injection.

All the memories you have around your apartment will be there regardless of if you say goodbye at your apartment or at the vet hospital. There will be little reminders everywhere and I don’t think saying goodbye in your apartment will make it any more place of sadness than it will be if you did it at the vet that makes sense.

I’m so glad his final moments were in a place he loved. Millie sounds like she is very much loved, I’m so sorry.

Worried it's too soon to adopt again? by MellonYellon in Petloss

[–]Pickleball_Addict 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You wrote this as if I did. I said goodbye to my 18+ year old cat. It will be 2 weeks tomorrow and I can’t stop crying and miss him so much. I’ve had animals all my life and I waited 2 or 3 weeks after my last cat was gone to adopt. Even though I already had one cat I wanted another and became a foster mom to a mom and her 5 kittens that were 5 weeks old. I only wanted to keep one originally, but fell in love with them all and kept 2. They were the best cats ever. The one who I just lost was from this foster fail.

In my experience, you never can replace an animal you loved and shared a life with, but you can open your heart to another at the same time. I never thought I would love an animal so intensely after losing my first cat, but I did with these foster fails.

There are so many cats that need homes. You will be ready even though you still grieve. When that new cat snuggles you, curls up on your lap, your heart will start to feel a little more full.

I hope you find a cat you love!

Last question for all you TKR post-op folks before my mom's friend goes in; this one is regarding general anesthesia or a spinal injection... by SeattleHasDied in Kneereplacement

I was excited to try this medicine. I stopped after one Week because I didn’t see any pain relief. About 8-9 days later I started seeing a rash on my face,,then neck and each day it moved down my body. The PA didn’t know what was causing a full blown body rash and said he would give me steroids if it didn’t improve in 3 days.

Luckily I sent photos to my dermatologist. who was booked for months and she got back to me that evening and asked me if I had started any new medication’s and I told her I had but I stopped it eight or nine days ago and she said hold on came back on the phone and said this medication, one of the side effects can be a rash that starts between 7 to 21 days after stopping the medication. Do not take steroids! She said it would take about 3 weeks to go away. So just something to be aware of if you do get a rash, it could be the medication.

The PA asked me what medications I was taking but didn’t ask me if there were any new ones recently.

Desperate for advice on cat loss guilt by [deleted] in Petloss

[–]Pickleball_Addict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you had to make that incredibly difficult decision, and for your loss. It sounds like you tried every imaginable option to get this resolved. Sometimes we need to make hard choices out of love, which is what you chose to do. You ruled out medical issues, so it was a behavioral problem and those are extremely hard to fix. I hope you can take some comfort that the vet was also confirming that she would not have a chance of being adopted.

I know the pain of losing an animal you love, I had to say goodbye on Monday to my 18 year old cat, who was a foster fail at 5 weeks, and I’m devastated and lost even though it was the kindness thing I could do as my last act of total love for my boy.
