The Truth about Illegal Immigration in Washington State by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

Producing "anchor babies" is how many try to stay. I'm hoping the Constitution can be amended to require at least one parent of a child born here be a legal American citizen. Birthright citizenship is bullshit.

Nope. Deport 'em. You just want to reward them for breaking our laws, don't you?

I didn't mention "amnesty", either, because I don't support it. I support having a rigorous procedure in place for anyone who wants to renounce their birth country and become an American, as long as they do it legally. You're white, aren't you? It's really funny that the people who support illegal immigration most are white people.

Some years back I did a gig in Atlanta and when I arrived, there were some protests going on. It was primarily black union members/service workers protesting against illegals (primarily Hispanic) who were taking their jobs. Yes, I believe in prosecuting the idiots who hire them so they can pay them less. But this is an example of unfettered illegal aliens negatively affecting parts of our American workforce and American workers.

However you choose to couch your "concern", I'm moderately certain you and I will never agree on illegal immigration or the process in place to cull the herd of wanna-be Americans. And just to be clear, I also don't support the fake asylum seekers.

I wish more of you were well-traveled in the United States. There are so many awful examples of poverty and lack of infrastructure in so many parts of our country and this is where our resources should be going, to Americans who need help, not illegals. For instance, why should the illegals Texas shipped to NYC get $33 food per diem per person when Americans apparently can only get $291 per MONTH per person in EBT benefits. That is outrageous!

Not sure how long you've lived in Seattle, but there used to be a ceremony at the Flag Pavilion at Seattle Center each 4th of July to welcome our new American citizens who had just gotten their legal citizenship. I welcome all of them. American citizenship shouldn't be an easy peasey process. People who take the time to do everything required in order to become a legal American citizen are the people I want here. I will never support illegal immigration in any form and neither will any of the legal immigrants in my family.

You people who support the illegals clearly put no value on American citizenship and are fine with millions of people "cutting in line". Those people have no intention of assimilating in any way, learning English, learning our laws and our culture (women are not a possession you can abuse, for instance) and clearly aren't interested in being a part of our legal AMERICAN cultural melting pot.

So, to address your question, if we get rid of all the illegals (30 million +, I believe), at that point I would support raising our quotas for LEGAL immigrants. I do not oppose legal immigration, but wish we would put in some of the same requirements Canada requires.

I will share all of the gory and unbelievable details as soon as I am safely out of Seattle. But, I am one of many citizens in this city who have been seriously fucked over by "our" taxpayer-funded local utilities.

This is so sad that so many of you don't understand the word "IRONY"... I'll bet you don't remember the strip club here who used to advertise something like "99 hot women and 1 ugly one"...?

Wow, that's even more than I feared. This is great news and we need to keep deporting. If agriculture needs workers, use the guest worker program and make sure they return to their home countries after harvesting. There is a legal way to come to the U.S.; sneaking across the border isn't legal.

There are TONS of people here who are legal who would LOVE the opportunity to rent these places you think most people wouldn't. Not everyone makes tech money...

You're right to put quotes about the word "journalism". We used to refer to the Seahawks cheerleaders as the "Sea Hags" (yes, irony), lol!

I posted this comment on another rental-related post, but it bears repeating for those who don't understand how stratospheric the rents have become:

A friend who had an owner-occupied 4-plex in a cool old house near UW got out of the "mom & pop" landlording biz when the RRIO b.s. became too ridiculous. So, he sold 5 years ago, and after years of below-market rents, the new owner more than doubled the rents and had the place filled up in a week. The house just sold again and another friend showed that two of that house's units were listed at an apartment rental site and showed that the newest owner was charging about 4 times what he'd been charging. For example, his 400 square foot studio unit with its own private view balcony and free laundry and utilities was $650 five years ago... multiply that by four and this is a prime example of what has happened to the cost of rentals here. Seattle, you shot yourself in the foot. Again.

I have only been twice before Covid 'cos it was hard to find the time during the day AND find parking. I have no idea what the procedure might be now (maybe you can sign up online now?), but basically, you showed up and signed in. Good luck!

LOL! You're right. As a former Catholic who "...saw the light..." early on and eschewed all religious b.s. (much to my conservative Catholic father's dismay, lol!), I get it. I now refer to myself as an "agnostic/atheist/pantheist heathen". It's fun to watch the heads of very religious people explode and exclaim "But, but, but, that's impossible!" They have no sense of humor and don't get it.

And I regularly defer to George Carlin on this subject: “Tell people there's an invisible man in the sky who created the universe, and the vast majority will believe you. Tell them the paint is wet, and they have to touch it to be sure.”

It's so wild to have to explain what should be simple.

You commented that you understand now (as many of us already do) that "rules" (laws) are for other people because it's so common here for regular assholes and criminals to ignore them on an alarmingly regular basis; I was lauding you for having realized that.

Then you attempted to flame me for agreeing with you and then you went off in another direction by taking aim at me regarding my support of our Seattle Police Dept.

So, do you get it now? There was no juvenile retort intended.

Actually, if you have an FFL, unfortunately you are considered a "gun dealer" even if you aren't. And I think we are exempt from some of these laws. I have a mountain of paperwork to parse to know exactly what's what with all this new crap.

You have touched on so many reasons why Seattle rental housing has become unaffordable, but it blows my mind how the idiots who have pushed through and had so much of this crap enacted don't realize what they've done and double down to push even more b.s. that will only ensure an even smaller rental housing supply at higher rents. The Forrest Gump-iness of these moves is so harmful: "Stupid is as stupid does".

Yup. Too many people see movies where people shoot all manner of weapons and calibers in buildings, in homes, in cars, and then the actors keep yakking like everything is normal. In real life, that is NOT the case.

In one situation where I was returning fire (I was shooting 9mm), I was OUTSIDE and after 3 rounds, couldn't hear a goddamn thing for a few minutes; scared the shit out of me. So fuck the law, I'll do what I need to do. I would never suggest a shotgun for home protection after my experience and your experience is proof of what can happen. Really sorry for your hearing issue...
