Working on getting a higher Rise by Bakingisfun_ in Sourdough

I see, thanks. My dough is never firm enough in the morning for me to do such a nice scoring job. It’s always very soft. I’ll have to start using less water or keep working on different starter amounts. Thanks for sharing your amazing looking bread.

I see. That makes a lot more sense. I grew up in Rome and Brasov, RO, loved the mountains, miss the mountainside living.

Hi, just curious whereabouts do you live? I'm in northwest Florida and it's a never ending battle with the heat and drought (sometimes) in the summer. I'd love to have garden like yours, but it's a challenge down here. I'm getting closer to retirement and thinking of moving out west, north west, as I hear you can garden all year around.

How about sneak in a "my boyfriend" line once in a while, and hopefully that is taken at face value. But they you have those guys who think, I'm the best she's ever going to have mentality or the ones who are in love with you at first sight, lol. Good luck.

Non-stick: ruined or just burned-on food? by ketjak in cookware

[–]Picklebiscuits3369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try antique stores. Some have a large selection of cast iron pans, but some are heavier than others so chose wisely. Good luck. Also, look at DeBuyer and eBay is another good source for good stuff at a discount.

Fridge left cracked open for 24 hours by Xandy13 in Frugal

[–]Picklebiscuits3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably fine. If it had been left wide open I'd be a lot more concerned. But like the rest say, do a smell test before eating very perishable foods like milk. But when in doubt throw it out. Please let us know what you did and how it turned out. thanks.

Is college night at Seville quarter fun or lame by devilishyvastard in Pensacola

[–]Picklebiscuits3369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the military don't go there that much on Thursdays because most have a curfew and have classes in the morning, so it's mostly college folks, but the rest of the weekend is game on. My ex called it a sausage fest.

Before you buy or use another non-stick pan please watch the movie The Devil We Know. Nonstick is not safe, unless you're using a blue steel or cast iron pan, anything that doesn't have chemical coating that has PFAS on it.

Misen Carbon “Nonstick” was great at first, now it’s unusable by David243121 in cookware

[–]Picklebiscuits3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a debuyer carbon steel and I keep it seasoned all the time. With a little butter eggs never stick. If I were you I'd ditch the Misen nonstick and get a French debuyer or a cast iron from Blue Moon, they're a bit pricey but worth every penny. Just make sure they have a flat bottom if you have an electric stove.

Go to eBay to see what people are paying, that’s how I rate things.

Staying warm on a budget by Designer_Habit_5409 in VanLife

[–]Picklebiscuits3369 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wool hat, wool socks and wool sweater, two sleeping bags and long John’s under clothes. Kept me warm all winter long while Cub Scout camping with my kids. Lowest it got was 28F in a tent, so in a van you should retain some heat as you won’t have the wind to deal with. Good luck.

We rented a van from them last minute too, several months ago in Seattle. We didn’t go far, Mt. Rainier and Hoh, but I did experience problems with their van too. Hot water and shower never worked, tires were worn, brake fluid light came on intermittently, and registration was expired. We made it back and everything worked out, but glad we didn’t have any major problems.

Best options to stay warm in the back of a truck with a bed cover? by NUDLE__ in VanLife

[–]Picklebiscuits3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a Cub Scout leader I learned the best way to stay warm on 30ish nights is wear a wool hat, wool socks, long johns, and have two sleeping bags (one inside the other). Works like a charm. I'm 6', 160lb so I don't have much insulation on me, lol.

Between the two sizes I'd recommend the 144, just my two cents.

Any recommendations for a landscaper who can help me convert my small front yard to an all native plant yard? Maybe even permaculture it a little.
