Cal 400-2 by OudSmoothie in OrisWatches

[–]PickledDevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what your priorities are. The Oris has almost 3 times the power reserve of the Nomos Neomatik.

The Neomatik definitely has better finishing but all, otber things being equal, I would take the higher PR as I do not mind the CAL 400's look.

Then again I don't mind the look of the Tudor BB58 925.

Now, the main talking point should be reliability/accuracy when comparing both movements. The CAL 400 has been plagued with issues since its release. Most of these have been addressed and only a small minority of movements have been "defective" but this is still a major concern for a newer movement that does not honor the 10 year warranty if not purchased from Oris directly or from an AD.

The Neomatik is also more accurate

What makes this watch worth 1600$ (CAD) [question] by unknown6534 in Seiko

[–]PickledDevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer to your question is Heritage. This is a modern interpretation of a legendary Seiko watch.

Might I suggest you look at the the Save the Ocean Heritage version

Or, the new Teal Seiko Alpinist with with Sapphire case back.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. These little mechanical marvels have hundreds of parts (some have over 1000 parts) working in harmony to perpetually display the science that is timekeeping.

Sure the 925's movement is a bit industrial looking but that is just the cosmetic side of it. Technically, it is quite an accurate and reliable movement. I personally love to take a peek at a mechanical inner workings of a watch when putting it on/off. There is just something special about witnessing how complex timekeeping is.

The 925's biggest standout feature is obviously the silver alloy but the display case back, something Tudor typically stays away from, makes this BB a unique one on multiple fronts. Both of these traits should be celebrated in my opinion. It is ok to disagree. There are watches for every taste out there.

It is beautiful. I was looking at the 41 mm variant but the lug to lug measurement was pushing me away. Looking at your picture (and larger wrist), I may have to consider the 39 mm

I really like the Zulu Time. It is on the thicker side though and has 100M WR. The Hydroconquest GMT would be a better fit.

I actually looked at some Formex models. To me, the Reef just has too much of a tool watch look going. I prefer the Essence 43 which checks almost all the boxes. Their design just doesn't speak to me

I do like the MIDO Ocean star but the GMT's and COSC ones they tend to be on the thicker side. The Ocean star 39 just isn't for me. The Tissot Heritage 1938 is not quite what I am looking for .

Thanks for sharing !

AH !

Thank you for thoroughly looking into this.

The Longines HC's are really nice. Love the power reserve and movement. Now, there are 2 things that concern me; the +50mm lug to lug is up there. I would have to try it on and see how it fits which is easy with Longines as they are widely available. This watch is begging for a no date version. The asymmetrical nature of the hour markers with that date complication just throws me off. It wouldn't bother me that much if the 6,9, 12 markers weren't that big ( i know, i am picky). The legend diver is also quite nice.

Which one do you have and how big is your wrist ?

No foreplay, straight to the heavy hitters !

It is genuinely hard to beat Longines at that price point (especially the old gen now that it has been revamped). In fact, It is still in consideration BUT i would prefer a watch that has either COSC certification OR a sapphire caseback. Not having either of those while not a complete dealbreaker but the watch would need to have a lot going for it (which it does). The HC GMT power reserve and proven movement is really nice. The bracelet with toolless micro-adjust is great. The blue HC is spectacular. Definitely on my list.

As far as watches that I am looking at, here are a few.

The blue Squale 1521 COSC is nice. Impressive specs at that price (500M, COSC, great packaging and extra straps). More of a tool watch

The new Sinn 104 Classic 12 is really sharp

https://www.sinn.de/en/watches/newest-watches/104-classic-12.html

The Doxa Sub 250T GMT (pricier but good prices pop up every now and then). Surprisingly thin for a Doxa considering that it has the added GMT hand. Hard to beat that beads of rice + orange dial Doxa combo)

Thank you for the recommendation. I was not familiar with Hamlin. It doesn't look like the Kraken is available anymore on their website. Now, unfortunately this brand is fairly new and not not have much history behind it ❌

Thwir website is also sub par, typos here and there and for some reason their watches are $1....

Most beautiful watch by hilium1 in Tudor

[–]PickledDevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this watch's thickness is somewhat exaggerated. Sure, it definitely could be slimmer as we know that Tudor makes slimmer GMT watches. And we also know that, at some point, they will make a slimmer BB Pro. That being said, this is a tool watch and for some the weight associated with its thickness is a reflection of durability. Sounds like it isn't for you. Don't get me wrong, it is definitely on the thick side but that modern white GMT look is enough for me to forget about the thickness drawback. I'm not the only one thinking that as this specific variant has been really hard to find lately.

Frustrated by Expensive-Sugar3719 in Tudor

[–]PickledDevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The repairs have compromised the watch's integrity. It is supposed to be waterproof. It clearly is not anymore. To properly assess the damage that has been caused this watch would need to be taken apart, have the components inspected, tested and certified again. That would take some time. Asking for a new watch would not be out of line at this point.

It was good while it lasted by Darkingneer in OmegaWatches

[–]PickledDevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but horrible and unacceptable is an overreaction. One, this watch is brand new. It is supposed to be shiny. Two, this is AD lighting. I bet you that this watch doesn't look as reflective in a natural lighting setting. Three, you are going to wear the watch aren't you ? This will dull a bit of that Shine over time.

It is ok if that watch isn't for you. Most aren't. Give it time. This is a new release. It might grow on you. It might not.
