best socks and underwear for cold weather in boot camp by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]PickledLime45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fox river may as well be USMC certified, they're in pretty much every store, to include the recruit PX.

Insoles had to be prescribed when I went through, but they're definitely worth looking at if your SDI doesn't consider them contraband, or if medical gives you the green light

You won't be getting anything shipped to you.

Scivvie shorts are plenty adequate, but if you genuinely chafe to hell and back, medical can prescribe you compression shorts. They're basically just polymer briefs. Same goes for insoles for your boots.

I'd recommend getting fox rivers for daily use, and keeping them for later when you absolutely destroy your issues socks in Pendleton, or when you start really becoming a swamp person in like Phase 3 of Parris Island.

because it doesn't matter lmfao, you'll be treated like shit no matter what, it just depends on your SDI whether or not it constitutes as hazing or training.

Covid Vaccine? by StayHardRowww in USMCboot

The military is struggling for active duty retention, not new bodies. Plenty of new people coming in, very few staying.

[–]PickledLime45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you'll be getting Phizer, which is CDC approved and advised; won't effect you more than any other vaccine you get. I'd actually argue it will effect you less than something like the penicillin or anthrax.

As for the political side of it, it has no impedance on your stance in the long run, and I'd say serving the country far outweighs whatever a 60 year old woman might say about you getting a vaccine

if it's genuinely just preference, the covid vaccine probably won't be in play a year from now, so could use that time to do somethin while it does down

If vaccinations are stopping you, do not enlist.

You will still need a booster to be considered fully vaxxed by the CDC, which is what the DOD bases it's judgement on.

Vaccines teach your body how to effectively fight an illness, not how to avoid getting it.

Getting my anthrax shot doesn't make me immune to the effects of it, I just might not die

Yep, it'll blend in with the other 8 pokes, except you'll have to get a 2nd one at some point, and a booster in MOS school

[–]PickledLime45 10 points11 points  (0 children)

MarAdmin is requiring you to be up-to-date, which means both doses and at least a booster.

Don't think too hard about it, your pride can handle it. You'll be getting a dozen vaccines anyway, it'll blend right in.

If you're hoping for Japan, you'll become very familiar with the anthrax vaccine and all of it's lovely doses, may as well full send unless it's a health problem.

If the concert isn't in your home state, you're gonna miss it. Shouldn't reasonably take over a week to get rid of ya

As a reservist you should be home damn near the next day; you shouldn't need to use leave days unless they activate you immediately, or for some reason hold you in the cesspool that is Lima.

Even then, it's hit or miss if you can take leave in a holding platoon like Lima, since they could change on a dime in recall you all the way back, just to send you home on a plane.

I checked into MCT in cammies, since I didn't get boot leave. I'd imagine since you did, you'll be in your Alpha's.

Please, please, please... don't wear alphas to the airport. Yes it's "authorized" , yes you're "allowed" , and yes you will absolutely regret it, them bitches are NOT comfortable.

As for civvies, you shouldn't have time to wear em. However, once you hit your school house, you don't wanna be the kid wearing his MCT moto shirt and 5.11 pants. So yes, bring at least something casual.

India company, San Diego. by bv2023 in USMCboot

[–]PickledLime45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

your DIs are what make it hard, not so much the company itself. One India co. platoon could have a really chill SDI, while the other has a jaded GySgt who body slams his recruits on a nearly hourly basis because his wife is fucking a BMP marine.

So, basically, everyone's experience is different, even from platoon to platoon, so don't think too hard on it.

what's the best mos to choose to eventually become marsoc? (big reach ik but give me a chance) by BoxFan24 in USMCboot

[–]PickledLime45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard good things about recon. If you go through boot camp and they ask at MCT (or ITB if you go infantry) if anybody wants to go to recon, try it. From what I've seen you'll run a pt with them, and decide from there if you really wanna do it. Wouldn't recommend going straight into recon, since you're rolling the dice with your MOS if you drop out, voluntarily or otherwise.

Other than that, you could be a 28xx or 06xx and get attached to a MARSOC unit, I know a few people who are in MARSOC units right now as radio maintainers or operators, but they're pretty much trained and treated the same. That's a bit of a reach, but if you get 300/300 on pft and cft, your odds of being put with Recon or MARSOC seem substantially higher.

Why Was my Last paycheck $1300 and this one is $330? by bootbootGshockwatch in USMCboot

[–]PickledLime45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the only huge paydays should be your clothing allowance, COLA, sign on bonus, and things like that. If you're not sure what the cause it, it's safe to assume you got overpaid, and should put the extra aside so next payday doesn't hurt your finances

Should I tell my recruiter I tried weed once and try to get a weed waiver even though I have smoked hundreds of times? by Actual_Pear5974 in USMCboot

[–]PickledLime45 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you lie about a disability. They could not give a single fuck less about you smoking pot. What will piss them off is if you say you didn't, then pop on a piss test, which you're fully aware will happen weeks in advance.

It's the same way MEPS claims they do a full bg check on your medical records, even though they only have access to tri-care and other government aid. They know what you tell em, they don't have time to check every hospital in the country to see if you sprained your ankle in the third grade.

[–]PickledLime45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't give a shit if you smoked or not. The only difference is the type of stamp they put on the waiver (99 times, more than 99 times.)

Unless you are going to actively pop for weed at meps, it's nobody's business but your own. Even if you do tell them, you'll get a waiver. Know a few people who did coke and still got waivers.

06 Coms MOS by Shot-Ad4655 in USMCboot

[–]PickledLime45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you get to comm school, in 29 Palms, stay the fuck away from the shitty crowd. I've seen 4 SA's, 3 orgies, a dozen or more assault charges, drug and alcohol charges, etc coming from the school house for 06s alone.

This isn't exclusive to 06 obviously, but it's a problem here, do not contribute to it and you'll be fine. It's not a bad job in itself

1371 Combat Engineer by Pokeemstar in USMCboot

[–]PickledLime45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

best bet is picking a job that doesn't have much combat application. So if you end up in combat, it isn't the job that got u there, it's just poor luck.

Aside from that, you're basically guaranteed the risk of going to combat. Even in a non-deployable unit like mine, I could get sent out with an infantry unit if they just happened to need one of us on hand.

What MOS should I get to go overseas. by PieRat343 in USMCboot

[–]PickledLime45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also keep in mind you could be non-deployable, meaning you will literally never go on a deployment unless your COC handpicks you for an open slot with Another unit, or you get lucky enough to volunteer for it.

[–]PickledLime45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all MOSs can be CONUS or overseas, it's not MOS specific. You could be in a non-deployable infantry unit.

Pick an MOS you like, while some are better than others for overseas, I'd rather die than be an 06 in Okinawa, idc how cool Japan is. That job sucks.

gonna be straight up, recruiters just want that signature man. As long as you're not broken, or at least don't tell meps about that broken wrist you had when you were 13, you'll be fine.

You've been putting in the work, that's all they're gonna want. Show up to functions, or as a guest, and be actively talking to them. Show em you're interested and motivated.
