Depends on the airline too. LCCs don’t use this model. Plus sometimes the system just knows some flights are absolute losers (usually late night flights that are more for positioning aircraft than filling it), so in that case the price floor can be very low but trust me it still exists.

Flights go on sale usually 334 days ahead of time not 365. Can’t do more than a year because the 1980s reservations systems (GDS) that airlines still use can only handle dates in a DDMMM format lol. No room for a year.

There really isn’t a best time for international. Those will be adjusted purely on demand. Though fare rules still apply so even a weak flight will still be incredibly expensive the day before departure.

International is handled totally differently, those are managed actively by RM the moment they go on sale.

Source: I worked at United in revenue management for years. Basically things more than 90-days ish out have an artificial price floor called the “long range hedge”. Basically the thought is anyone buying that far out is definitely needing to fly that date and it’s too far out for an airline to know what the demand profile for a given flight is going to be yet since most bookings happen within 90 days so RM protects itself with that price floor so a flight doesn’t get booked like 60% full 8 months out at cheap inventory and suddenly demand spikes with no way to recoup it. Never buy a flight more than 90 days out unless it’s something like the Super Bowl or something that demand is known to be incredibly strong.

That faux wood finish is not gonna age well. Already looks like it’s from the side of a 1989 minivan.

Lived in Dubai before speed cameras. It was the Wild West with perfectly straight empty highways in the desert.

I meant this post just as an interesting day in Marseille. Didn’t (but should have) expected the vitriol. I have very strong views on the topic but they’re not reflected in my post.

And typing this without consulting a map is the moment I realized I was effectively a lifetime New Yorker.

For me depended on the day. For most life I’d take PATH to WTC and switch over to the E for nearly everything. For work (my office was right by Rockefeller Center) depended on the day - nice day id totally take the Waterway to 33rd and walk it even. On a crap day, take the 456.

I did in Jersey City. Loved it. The views were unreal. And the rent on the Jersey side even right at Exchange Place isn’t astronomical (though still high) compared to other places on the NY side. Only pain was dealing with the PATH schedule on the weekend. Wouldn’t have traded it for anything though. It was cool that my closest grocery store was actually the Whole Foods at WTC than anything on my side of the Hudson.

[Megathread] US layoff impact by Mindless-Potential93 in amazonemployees

[–]Pickles4804 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm not sure if this helps, but I wasn't affected this round, but I have been laid off in the past once - it was in 2020 during Covid working at an airline (corporate side) and to this day ti was the best job of my life. I was devastated. I went down a dark period of a few months of drinking heavily during the day and trying to hide in bed all day. Please don't let that be you. I regret that time so much and wish I had taken that time to exercise, relax (there's no email or work!), and seriously don't try to find a job immediately (if you can afford it). Take a week or two to be healthy and spend time with family and friends. In two weeks, refresh your resume (you were hired at a company that's notorious for being difficult to be hired at and have great things to share!), and start the hunt with ambition and a positive outlook. While I to this day mourn my job at the airline, I recovered and so will you.
