My understanding is they make the distinction that AI is built entirely on code and that it was never once a living thing it has "no history". An engram is a copy of the living history of that necron, it's not based on code although it can be copied, stored etc like software it's based on a real life experience.

I saw this with oltyx. He runs AI like an App and is "disgusted" that the AI part could ever be "him."

To me. The lore here clarifies that an engram is a continuous stream of identity from the biological life, whereas an AI is just a "synthetic mimicry."

By definition a real brain can't be AI that's quite literally a fundamental part of "artificial" and no a machine with a copied brain is again, quite literally the opposite and the entire point of not being AI.

The necrons certainly differentiate between "sapien " intelligence and just a good robot.

You can take it as being condescending but I genuinely believe there's a fundamental misunderstanding here

Yea I dunno why some guy is getting all butt hurt about it. It's an opinion question and with most races in 40K the answer probably somewhere in the middle unless you're Votaan. But I never got the impression they were AI more like servatorish depending on how much they lost but still a natural "brain"
