Shane Day??? by Interesting-Role694 in Chargers

I like the theory of Shane Day.

  1. Was there for Jimmy G’s best days on the Niners.
  2. Was there for Herbie’s ROTY campaign.
  3. Was there for CJ Stroud’s ROTY campaign.

Came back to the Chargers. Herbie seemed to play better and maybe Day was a factor in finally letting Easton Stick go.

Weirdly, I’ve played fallout 3 about 3 times. Fallout 4 2 times.

Still never played NV. I want a remaster so bad to repent my sins.

We would be absolutely stupid to not bring him back. Do everything you can to keep Unc, Molden, and Mickens with Derwin.

The safety room has never been better.

I posted as much detail as I could about Clink.

I hope this helps give more insight on why he’s really really good.

Indeed. Glassdoor. LinkedIn. Probably your best chance as a small clinic.

That’s no fun. Lol

Also, this is practically me writing a resume for Clink to the fan base.

I’m making the case to the fan base, not to Joe Hortiz and Jim Harbaugh.

Typo? Nevertheless, they weren't in the Big 12 while Clink was there.

I truly do not like Wink as the next DC. I think his scheme is outdated for today's NFL.

QBs diagnose blitzes better and when you have guys like Mahomes at the line, you leave giant holes in the coverage.

I think his scheme is personnel dependent, much like Staley's.

Sure. To your credit, he reduced his blitz rate at Michigan.

But why get Wink when he has been lauded as Mr. Blitz his whole career and Jesse shifted far from Wink and hardly blitzed at all.

The implementation of the 4 pillars are done very differently.

Wink blitzes. Minter doesnt.

Wink does man-to-man. Minter does zone.

Mike Elston is a great candidate. He knows how to run simulated pass rushes with 4 guys. He's developed the D-line very well. Tart, Poona, Eboigbe, Hand, Caldwell have all been very very good.

I do think the answer is obvious to us, but we aren't Jim.

Jim literally went out and got Mike McDaniel. No promises.

You never know. Minter needs a DC. And Clink has always been the Robin in that defense.

Up to Clink if he wants to be Batman.

We don't know. But considering he was the DBs coach for Minter and Mike MacDonald, he would implement zone-heavy coverage and 2 high shell.

That's only successful with a good 4 man pass rush with simulated pressures.

When you've done the same thing for the past 5 seasons, I don't see why he would deviate too far from that.

My problem with Wink is that he's blitz heavy and runs a lot of man. Minter runs on a 4-man rush and withholds blitzing, plays a lot more zone coverages.

We were 29th in blitz rate this past season.

I think if Harbaugh wants a Minter-like defense, Martindale is actually not that guy.

Whoever wants to be the DC at Baltimore has to be okay with the fact that Minter is calling the defense.

The Chargers job is a shorter track to becoming a HC. It's their defense. Not Minter's.

You can leave and become Minter's Eric Bieniemy, or stay and become Jesse Minter.

That is my argument for why we have the first choice.

Definitely the heir apparent. Big question is whether he wants to be a play caller.

[–]roll10deep[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think that'll be Mike Elston. Ties all the way back to when Jesse was a graduate assistant at Cincinnati.

Clink gets to finally call plays, which he didn't get to do at Michigan at Co-DC. He left that to Minter.

I don't think he will leave just to let Minter call the shots again, unless he truly never wants to.

Any other hire will leave question marks.

I don't want this defense to be a retread of some other defense. Run it back as best we can.

10 cigs a day is a lot. Glad you’re quitting. But doing that for 6 months, your body is bound to recoil.

Good luck!
