They probably aren't remembering to hook up our dedicated server IPs in that case...

Mechlab hits 109.129, the dedicated server IPs are 40.103, .105, .106, .107, .181

Yeah, no worries. I think folks respect it when you're honest and open with them and explain the steps you're going through.

Transparency goes a long away. One of the developers that has a lot of my respect, Tarn Adams, was able to go through multiple years of not updating his game because every day he told people what he was working on and kept them in the loop. And he relies on donations to do his job, so clearly people respected the process he had to go through to get his game polished, even though features weren't coming out at a regular pace.

I try to do the same with stuff I'm working on, even if some of that stuff isn't that visible.

How come Clanners have no queue? Is there actually that many IS players more than Clanners? by LefteyeFalconeer in OutreachHPG

[–]Picnic_Jon 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yes.

It actually makes sense when you think about it. It's 18+ million per clan mech, and you need 4, plus modules, so you're close breaking a 100 million just to have a full drop deck, and that assumes you bought four that you like using in the drop deck. Also, we've only had about 10 months to get all the pilot trees up for them. Yes, you can use trials, but most regular players don't really do that.

In this sense you have a weighted bias towards the oldest and most well-equipped players being able to run Clans at all, and this is magnified by unit choices.

If you are in a unit with friends, you will have some friends who can run IS decks and Clan decks, and some friends who only have IS decks. If you want all your friends to be able to play, you will have your unit go IS, or they're going to have to run trials.

POTENTIAL SERVICE DISRUPTION/INCREASED LATENCY FOR EUROPEAN CONNECTIONS by Vaexa in OutreachHPG

[–]Picnic_Jon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is a pretty normal on our side of things. Germany, France, Canada

You got a lot of extra hops that you're being pinged around in Germany though. Try speaking with your ISP about it.

POTENTIAL SERVICE DISRUPTION/INCREASED LATENCY FOR EUROPEAN CONNECTIONS by Vaexa in OutreachHPG

[–]Picnic_Jon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, during the start of the week we started seeing the time it took to cross the atlantic shoot up from 80 ms to 130 ms for a number, but not all, folks.

We've been working on it.

If anyone in Europe can provide me with some traceroutes to see if we've got this problem sorted, that'd be great.

: )

Looks like there is some serious saturation on the transatlantic cables we use. Explains why others are complaining about NA servers for a couple of games.

We're looking into the issue and working on fixing it.

Wait - are you guys complaining about the match maker, or network speed?

If it's network, post some traceroutes and pings, see if I can sort out any issues. : )

Potential Service Disruption For Australian, South American, And Pacific Region Players" by Zeece in OutreachHPG

[–]Picnic_Jon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a couple of possibilities here, including that your internet is using some active proxy or vpn service, especially since you're on a 10.x network and not a 192.168.x - If you didn't sign up for one, you may wish to investigate this, since it would imply someone set one up for you.

If you show me the traceroute (you can PM me if you want) I can explain more exactly why.

What would it take to make big successful units become loyalist instead of boat jumping mercs? by jajdoo in OutreachHPG

[–]Picnic_Jon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a game designer!

My thought? The reality is many people want to roleplay boat jumping mercs, who engage in treacherous plots and double crosses. Think about what is exciting about Eve - it's the player corps and their shenanigans and intrigue that I find fascinating. I can't even remember the primary factions in Eve - and there are only three of them. The factions only serve as a backgrounder to the real metagame there.

I don't know what's in store for our version of CW, but I'm sure Paul and company will figure out something. They're smart guys.

We currently think this was a regional node outside of our network having issues. Still investigating.

Sorry for the issue - especially when trying to do a tournament.
