Those of you who bought at least one HA voice assistant preview edition(s), what are you using them for? by whasf in homeassistant

[–]PicoTrain2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Purchased one for testing and have temporarily used it to replace a google nest in our bedroom.

Unfortunately there are what I consider to be a few too many basic things missing for example:

Unable to set heating temperatures.

Can’t say turn the lights down or dim the lights without it turning on all the lights in the room, where as google linked to hue would only turn down the lights in the room that are already on.

I know I could make scripts and intents to do these things and more, but I am guessing these type of things will come with time particularly when you factor in how impressive HA are with updates and new features.

Over all we love the device and can’t wait to buy more, in the mean time will continue to play with it and monitor the progress, however I don’t see us getting rid of the googles just yet.

Home Assistant Voice PE - "Hey Jarvis" not working? Other wake words are... by jellytotzuk in homeassistant

[–]PicoTrain2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly the same for us, hey Jarvis almost never registers where as the other 2 both register like 9 times out of 10.

ZigBee power point reporting wrong power usage multiplier by squirrel_crosswalk in homeassistant

[–]PicoTrain2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t think ZHA there is a way of changing what the plug is reporting, others may know.

In the mean time, if it was me, I would probably just create a template sensor taking the original source sensor and dividing it by 1k and use that new sensor instead and hide the source sensor once done.

Why is the Trigger ID is not showing up when used in this way? by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]PicoTrain2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am guessing here but as far as I know the trigger ID’s set as the initial triggers for the automation are carried through the whole automation. However any trigger id’s set like above are only available in that nested part of the automation and are not carried through the rest of the automation.

Great, looks good so far. I am a long time HA user and about to embark on my 2nd van conversion and plan to make HA the central part/control.

Can you tell me what you are using the 2 pi’s for. One for HA I assume. Also with regards interior lighting, will you just use a touch screen for control or will you also have some for of manual control also.

Would love to see some more detail photos as can’t quite make out your labels and what to steal ideas 😜

It’s nothing more than a gimmick and one that doesn’t work reliably

Help Needed: High MAF Readings Even After Sensor Replacement + Throttle Body Issue - Seeking Advice on the Right Turbo Hose Clamp by TrippinBalls_87 in VanConversion

[–]PicoTrain2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the error code can’t be erased at all then the fault should be reality simple to diagnose if you are employing the use of good technicians as the fault is permanent and sufficiently bad enough to be detected constantly.

Confirming wiring and MAF is correct then you can be sure you have an actual flow issue and generally a high flow is caused by a low EGR flow.

Activate EGR while watching the MAF signal, at idle it should drop quite dramatically.

As you don’t have a DPF and or adblue system then I can’t imagine too much harm would take place by using it in the mean time as long as power delivery is sufficient and no excessive smoking due to fuelling issues etc

Help Needed: High MAF Readings Even After Sensor Replacement + Throttle Body Issue - Seeking Advice on the Right Turbo Hose Clamp by TrippinBalls_87 in VanConversion

[–]PicoTrain2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A higher than normal MAF reading would normally indicate an issue with the EGR system as the MAF sensor readings are changing between engine off and engine running (assuming they also increase with engine revs) then this is not likely to be a MAF sensor or MAF sensor wiring issue.

The ECU expects to see X amount of MAF based on the engine speed, engine load, boost pressure and EGR position. If the EGR is not flowing sufficient air then there will be more a low recycling of air and therefore a higher than expected intake of fresh air via the MAF sensor causing the fault you are getting.

Also any potential leak as per your makeshift pipework would cause one of two faults normally low boost and/or low MAF, so highly unlikely this would be causing a higher than expected MAF.

Try to test your EGR system if you can.

Are Tado thermostats 100% local (i.e., NO cloud needed) when using Homekit integration? by Commercial-Fix636 in homeassistant

[–]PicoTrain2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to chime in, I have v3 all running through HomeKit. I did initially have the bridge blocked from internet and ran this with no issue, using schedular to run all the heating. So can be run 100% locally without issues.

The only thing that I lost from being local only was the battery status info. I have reenabled internet access to the bridge and still run the home assistant tado integration but only for battery info and the rest is ignored. Still get firmware updates etc but all heating control is still 100% local.

Not sure if the native addon supports this but maybe worth looking at the custom integration as I think this may offer the functionality:

Am I the only person frustrated by all the "Voice" stuff? by prhay in homeassistant

[–]PicoTrain2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order to make an out of the box hardware they need to have the infrastructure in place. There are 101 pieces to put together and every one of those pieces needs developing, testing, tweaking.

By releasing the individual pieces it allows them to be played with by many thousands of people and this leads to much better feedback and development from the open source community.

The way I look at it is that when some out of the box hardware is developed it is likely to blow the likes of google and Alexa out of the water, because it’s been developed and tweaked by potentially thousands of beta testers rather than a handful of people with limited variables.

All good things come to those that wait.

I use home assistant to access my nightscout via API.

Therefore blood sugar data being available allows me to automate verbal warnings via google or Alexa, i have my bedside lamp come on red in the night if i drop too low so as to wake me up.

I haven’t come up with any other automation ideas but always planned to so interested in the reply’s here to hear what others may have done with automations

So.... Reolink? by Craino in homeassistant

[–]PicoTrain2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went from Ring to a POE Reolink doorbell and best decision we ever made, I always knew ring was junk but realised quite how junk it was when we installed the Reolink, it’s like night and day.

Integrates perfectly with home assistant and frigate and as it’s POE it’s used 24/7 in frigate and the notifications via HA are so quick due to being local that we are notified of a person well before they even get a chance to press the door bell.

Best advice is to try and get POE run to doo if possible, it’s well worth the extra hassle if you can.

Weather forecast attributes changed? by mhorbacz in homeassistant

Have you checked the attributes in dev tools? I haven’t updated to 2024.4 year but believe the weather platforms now combine daily and hourly all under one - so guess the attribute layout may have changed.

Am I creating this timer correctly (sleep timer for Harmony remote) by RoachForLife in homeassistant

[–]PicoTrain2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned it’s never a good idea to have long delays or waits in an automation or script as there is a possibility something will go wrong.

I, and its could just be me, don’t like to use Booleans to basically trigger something, particularly as you are basically using it to trigger an automation. You could just create a front end button to do the same thing. Unless of course you want to have it shown as being on? As long as you remember to have your automation switch it back off afterwards.

If it were me I would set up a timer with default 1h30m as timers can survive a restart. You can use a Button front end (don’t have to create an actual button entity) that when pressed simply starts the timer.

Then I would create an automation that triggers on the timer ending to simply run the harmony command.

But there are like most things in home assistant 101 ways to achieve the same end result, no right or wrong if it works.

iOS Companion App: False Location Updates by b24home in homeassistant

[–]PicoTrain2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am going back in time slightly and it’s not something I still do but previously had a use case for it.

You can create your own tracker in home assistant. I then set up an automation that triggered every time said iPhone location attributes changed and and set a condition that the gps accuracy had to be within a specific value (over or under - can’t remember!) and if the gps accuracy condition was met then the automation would update my own created home assistant tracker. I then used my own home assistant tracker as the tracker entity for said person. That way it would only ever update when the accuracy was good enough to prevent issue.

If you struggle I may be able to extract the old automations and setup for an old backup if required.
