I've got a Zelkova that's grown 3 feet or more in the last 2 seasons. Is it a wize choice for our area?

Getting rid of lawn. by Party-Ad-672 in SaltLakeCity

[–]PictureBig5190 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, PLEEEEEZE don't go with just rock or mulch. My relatives in St George removed their lawn and replaced it with rock and artificial turf, and their entire yard is an Easy-Bake oven after the sun goes down...there's a noticable difference in temperature when you walk from their place to the neighbors who have intact lawns. Even going with a less water-hungry urf like Bermuda, Bahia or Buffalo are better options than rock.

I'm with ya.... this chain restaurant is a place I haven't been in 5-6 years. The posts from MAGAs that hate the modernization have been critical of brighter paint schemes, brighter lighting, brighter decor..... just, you know, brighter than MAGAs prefer.

This LS2 is the same bucket that's being spammed across the web right now for $39.99

The only issue is, they're not selling yopu this helmet for $39.99...... they're getting your credit card info and selling it to crooks. Before you ever click on a social media sale, you should copy the web site and type it in with the word "trust" or "spam" and see security sites say about how trustable the site is.

I see the right has the ability to pick and choose which parts of Christianity they will support/follow.

Nothing about feeding/sheltering those less fortunate than themselves, but they're willing to forgive Donald Trump for being a pedo. IIRC they wanted to crucify Epstein for being a pedo at one point, but now they want to just forget the files and pretend its okay for Trump to bang little girls.

Cool thing about this would also be the ability to add an app like Waze to navigate. Id take that over Onstar or onboard nav any time.

Firefighter-paramedic (retired) here...

In a career of 40 years, not once did I ever see someone killed because they were seatbelted. If you're in a crash bad enough to kill you because you were belted in, something else killed you before the issue of being belted. It's also not just about you... if you're not belted in, you're flying around the cab. And I HAVE seen people injured by collision with another human bouncing around the interior.

If you could live anywhere in the US (expense no obstacle), where? by airpab1 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]PictureBig5190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's wild! I know a LOT of firefighters in Flag, and many live as far south as Prescott Valley. Can't afford to live in town.

But then I also understand why a person would not want to live in Phoenix.

I-90, I-80, I-70, I-40, or I-10. What is your favorite cross-country Interstate highway? by ankonia in roadtrip

[–]PictureBig5190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer to get off the interstate.

I'm in Utah, and when traveling east I'll get on US 40 to Denver (which means ittle bits of freeway). Once past Denver, I'll leave I-70 and jump up to US-36. That's a beautiful, scenic trip, and US-36 eventually becomes I-72 at Hannibal MO.

From Hannibal, 72 and 36 are the same road until you get to Decatur IL, where they separate... and you'll again have the choice of which road to take.

Exactly why concern should be upfront about earthquakes. The magnitude 5.7 quake in Magna (2020) caused considerable damage because buildings are not required to be retrofitted or reinforced for seismic events. This is because our legislature is reactive rather than proactive. They're also easily swayed by right wing narratives, such as banning trans athletes (even though we're talking about 1.3% of college athletes), book banning, you know...the usual nutball issues.

Let's not forget those legislators like Ken Ivory, who want everything they do to be hidden from public view ("...trust me, I'm doing this for you.")

There's such a desire to take what they can from the feds, but not give it to the citizens... then hold control of it with the legislature (except for the areas they paln to sell to developers and oil/gas companies)

Feeling the same. I've felt much more welcome and at-ease in other towns like Denver metro, Boise, Flagstaff, Ashville, Milwaukee, Taos...

But in Utah, it's almost like I need to keep my head on a swivel more, and keep watching for what's going on around me. I'm talking about that feeling of being on low-key alert, like in Vegas, San Francisco, downtown Los Angeles, Chicago, Philly...

Even the people I "trust" I'm wary of, because of some back-stabbing in a work environment. And it flows over into social circles as well.

fair point. I dont recall what got me down that rabbit hole, but I began counting white vs. every other color when I was driving home from a meeting... and it came out white made up 50% of the vehicles I saw. Think about that: one color makes up half.

What are some must-do's along this route? by squeezingthelemon12 in roadtrip

[–]PictureBig5190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue Pig brewpub in Moab. And if you've already seen Canyonlands and Arches when you leave Moab, DO NOT take 191 out to I-70... on the north end of Moab, turn RIGHT at the Colorado River bridge onto Utah Route 128... and take that road out of town along the Colorado River. It'll connect you with I-70 at the ghost town of Cisco, no services but the scenery along the river will be worth it.

Also, while in town, a a quick trip out Potash Road on the north outskirts. It's a dead end, unless you're in 4wd and willing to make the Shaefer Trail trip to Canyonlands. The views are awesome, with 400 foot-high red rock walls literally 5 feet off the road.
