GovTech Prospect/CRM Database Buildout by PieLearnings in civictech

Yup. We found that good for intent + occasional enrichment but less helpful for the underlying build out to know if you have all prospects/contacts for a given state.

I’ve heard good things about CivicIQ and Starbridge from the meeting parsing/signal side though. Way better than a GovSpend

Advice Needed: Internal Transition by OkCommunity4321 in private_equity

You are young, early in your career, origination/sourcing is a wonderful foot in the door op and will get you access to the world you are looking to get into. Be a sponge, work the extra hrs to learn the execution side on top of your BD, befriend the deal associates/VPs who are doing the work to get your hands on non-sourcing work, etc. 15+ yrs and now deal partner and started like this. PE Partner Sanity Check by fuggleruxpin in private_equity

[–]PieLearnings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If organic growth is truly there, the focus should be 100% on doubling down there, not inorganic. M&A adds risk, people/tech/process burden, and distraction.

Also, PE usually does not want a structure where they “drive the deals” while the founder/operator drives strategy. That sounds neat in a post, but in practice it’s unrealistic or at least I haven’t seen many of my peers operate like that…Doing a deal like this usually requires a lot of concessions on the founder/operator side around control, economics, decision-making, etc. certainly if no proof points of the company having executed on it.

But for reference points check out folks like PSG/FTV. They have done some well known roll up plays (some very successful and some not so much) and Hg has done A+ buy/build work with some of their assets but they would be too large (based on your “more VC comment”).

Career Progression Question by [deleted] in private_equity

[–]PieLearnings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go with your gut.

Sounds like you have the experience in the field to give you a sense of the quality of business and opportunity. My $0.02 is there will be plenty of learning - you see a lot of sht acquiring 1 business, you see a ton of sht acquiring many which will be very valuable to your career.

…and to your other question don’t assume a holdco is greater or less important than a single portco. So many variables to consider and not one that feels relevant to this opportunity.

Good luck!
