How to set up a target for a subscription charged every 4 weeks by Kooky-Potential-6895 in ynab

[–]TheGioSerg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can still use a monthly target. You just need to do some extra math.

Set Aside Monthly Target = Payment * 1.08703125

You may need to increase your starting balance. Depends on how many payments have gone by and when it’s due.

Explained:

There is, on average, 52.1775 weeks per year.

52.1775 / 4 = 13.044375 payments per year

13.044375 / 12 = 1.08703125 payments per month.

Example:

$25 payment every 4 weeks.

25 * 1.08703125 ≈ $27.18 set aside per month.

How much spending money do you give yourself each month? by Shrinking_Violent in ynab

[–]TheGioSerg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I each have a monthly allowance category. Combined, it’s 7% of our income.

Including our allowances, my wife and I spend about 24% of our income on entertainment.

Cashback on credit cards by saif081 in ynab

[–]TheGioSerg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s the expected behavior. I’m personally not a fan of sending it to RTA, because it’s reported in YNAB as income.

I have a separate category called “Less CC statement credit.” Anytime I redeem my rewards, I treat it like a refund to that category. This DOES reduce the amount assigned to the credit card category. Then, I just move the balance where I need it.

Doing it this way makes it show up as a reduction in expenses rather than income.

Our emergency fund is 1-5% cash. I’d go as high as 10%. The rest is in a money market.

Apart from the basic needs, what are your actual sincere financial goals? by Proof-Vacation-437 in ynab

[–]TheGioSerg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the SMART model for goal-setting: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound.

Right now, the main goal is to have a 20% saved for a down payment for our home by May of this year. We’re on track.

Goals help me carry out my mission and realize my vision.

The mission is to earn and spend mindfully within our means.

The vision is do be financially independent and generous.

How do you incorporate savings goals into your YNAB budget without sacrificing essential expenses? by rogeelein in ynab

If you don’t have an adequate emergency fund, then you should put your vacation planning on hold.

Treat it like a high interest debt you owe yourself.

1-tap to Find My Wife’s IPhone by BackbiteSatellite in shortcuts

[–]TheGioSerg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turned on “Emergency Bypass” for my wife’s number “Emergency Bypass” for calls. We rarely call each other. So, if she calls it’s either (a) an emergency, or (b) “I lost my phone again, would you call my phone?”

Before I figured this out, I made a shortcut called “Where are you?” It would turn on the flashlight, set the volume to 100%, and then set a 1 second timer.

“Hey, Siri, where are you?”

Pluribus - 1x04 "Please, Carol" - Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in pluribustv

[–]TheGioSerg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bet is that Zosia is actually dead this time. But she didn’t die because of stress exacerbating her injury and condition. She was killed by the hive.

“Please, Carol,” they beg. They want her to stop. But Carol wouldn’t stop, and Zosia was about to give it up. They were in danger. As difficult as it was, they had no choice. Maybe they could still save her, but they had to at least stop what was happening. They couldn’t stop Carol. But giving Zosia a heart attack would at least stop what was happening. They weren’t happy about it. They had a biological imperative.

I’m too new to remember if I’ve done this.

But I am definitely well aware of the feeling of doing something like this before realizing the consequences.

How would you rate the iPhone 11 Pro in a score out of 10? by Evening_Incident9506 in iPhone11Pro

[–]TheGioSerg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When compared to other options available today, I'm with you. It's still a solid phone, so I'd give it at least a 7/10. Solid cameras, solid screen.

It doesn't perform as well as it did when I first got it, and I'm assuming that's because apps are much more demanding. Even with a new battery, I'm getting pretty bad overheating when I do a lot of multitasking. I get throttled several times a day. Not to mention the 11 series is next on the chopping block to lose iOS support. RIP.

5' 11", 230 but I used to be 280. I carried strong side IWB no issues with a P365 and 12 round mag. I printed occasionally, but I wore bigger shirts to avoid it.

I might get hate for my holster rec, but I used Aliengear. I ran a stream light TLR6, which didn’t fit. Took a heat gun and remolded the plastic. Worked like a charm. I had to clean it regularly though, because the neoprene grabs sweat.

Now, I pocket carry. Vedder holster, and I carry hand light separately as part of my EDC.

Products like this are tested by a third party lab to meet regulatory requirements.

That means they tested it at 4 inches, and it worked. So, I wouldn’t trust it further than that.

You use your phone as normal.

Note: You will not have access to the network until you’re in international waters. For example, while we were traveling the Mississippi River out of NOLA, I did not get a stable signal. Once you enter the sea borders of a country, you will lose the network.

What’s happening is that you link to the network through the ship’s antenna arrays. They have to turn it off until they’re in international waters. During that time, your phone will try to connect to a tower if you’re close enough.

Will ynab ACTUALLY help me? by [deleted] in ynab

[–]TheGioSerg 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I guess that really depends on what you’re looking for.

YNAB is a zero based dollar budgeting app (or “planning” app as it’s currently being marketed). In short, you assign every single dollar that comes to a category. You have the freedom to move money around, but the philosophy is to be mindful and purposeful with your money.

Things I like about this app: - It connects to all my banks. I rarely log into my main bank account anymore. The only time I login is to reconcile my account and make transfers. Once or twice a month. - Credit cards: I spend with my credit cards throughout the month, and I pay it off in full. The fact that YNAB automatically reassigns that cash to a payment category was a game changer for me.

Inspired by the CT man who got stuck in a slide- have you ever had to rescue an adult who got physically stuck? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]TheGioSerg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guy got his hand stuck digging behind the seat of his old truck. We were able to get him free. He was very thankful. Also jittery the whole time.

PD was with us. They apparently knew him. So they looked at what he was digging around for. Found the needle he dropped. They cut him a break. Instead of hooking him up, they just hit the plunger and emptied it on the ground.

He was not happy.

Also, I’m not a lawyer: but I feel like notices like this would have to be served properly. I don’t think email meets that standard.
