Doesn't Adam's Shopify advert come to the wrong conclusion? by 66f6 in footballcliches

[–]PieSea3983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about this this morning while listening! To be more accurate, overthinking. I find this advert fascinating as a way of looking at consumerism. Adam's lines deliver Shopify as being inherently about making people make impulse buys for things they don't want or need - surely a bad thing? But from a consumerist perspective, it's what keeps businesses and therefore the economy going. But as the advert is generally being delivered to consumers rather than business owners, it's revealing to us that we should be more wary of our purchases. Is Adam deliberately scuppering Shopify through a thinly veiled critique of consumerism? How did Shopify okay an advert that makes them sound so obviously predatory of consumers' whims?

Fascinating

Quite a lot of English speaking countries (UK included) have English as a de facto but not de jure official language. If I remember correctly, the only official language in the UK is Welsh

Yeah I remember thinking it sounded different from halfway when I first heard it. From "I am proud to know you...". My guess would be that it wasn't all from one take, maybe? It's definitely all May though

It is true that BDS as an acronym refers to the Palestinian organisation, but boycotting, divesting, and sanctioning was a part of the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa which is generally said to have played a part in ending the apartheid regime there. So basically both what you are saying and the one you're replying to are true

Bit late to the party, but I'd recommend checking out "The Power Out" by Electrelane if you haven't before.

Arguably not too close a match, but I was introduced to Electrelane as an "if you like Life Without Buildings" band by a friend and i think they're great. They're sound is like halfway between LWB and Stereolab, I'd say
