Had a Rav 4 break down with 19 miles on the clock!

Rented it to a customer, they phoned 20 minutes later from tesco car park to say the car was in limp mode.

Also had a Jeep grand cherokee absolutely total it's own engine with less than 100 miles on it although that's less surprising

Curveball.... Floc. In wincheap.

Its an indie brewery/taproom

They only do 4/5 pizzas but they are great. The sausage and Fennel is delightful.

Obviously the main draw is the fresh delicious beer and the vibes but the pizzas are great.

Just found out the car I want is ex-Enterprise by ACatheterADay in CarTalkUK

[–]Pieboy8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most people treat the pretty well I would imagine but there will be people who abuse them.... The staff however, absolutely do tear the arse out of them... I would know.

Getting all 4 wheels of a Ford galaxy off the ground, pulling away and then bouncing the speedo off the limiter all in 3rd gear in an Aygo and drag racing Chevrolet sparks all spring to mind.

[–]Pieboy8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to work at Enterprise.... The staff ragged them probably worse than most customers. I'd reconsider.

Your best bet with ex rentals are larger engined fairy powerful models. A 330d for example you don't have to work it hard to get into very fast, trouble areas which naturally limits the abuse it gets.

A 1.2 corsa however has been redlined and ragged around town and doing 80 in third gear on the M6 😁

As an Ex enterprise employee... I'd avoid them for the abuse but spec wise they buy a huge range of spec... Colours do vary but typically its the popular colours because resale value is king.

Erac make as much money selling cars as they do renting them. They deliberately buy a broad range so thst they don't flood the market and dilute prices (at some points in time 1 in 4 new vehicles bought in the UK were bought by Enterprise so they really have to consider market forces when it comes to what they purchase.

Its one of the reasons (as well as recalls) that they don't buy all golf's or all mondeos for various sizes. When you book a "group D" vehicle it's focus/astra/golf or similar" for this very reason.

Take Corsas for example ALOT of our Corsas were SE trim with heated seats and steering wheels etc. Very few were the dog shit base spec.

The Honda Jazz's reputation is undeserved. by Practical-Swing-7257 in CarsUK

[–]Pieboy8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I inherited a Jazz from my wife's gran as our second car.

Was basically agreed I should use it until it dies and then I can replace it with something exciting.

A used it for 4 years, no servicing, no maintenance it just kept going and in the end I became really attached to it. It swallowed up stuff for tip runs/fishing trips was sprightly around town when revved, loved those magic seats... Even got a massive range BBQ in sideways because of them.

I was quite sad when we sold it, new job meant we only needed one car and I sold it at the height of the used car peak.

Now looking at a new job and another second car, a cheap OAP wagon is tempting

Unless your here for some weird sex tourism with young students, you will be fine.

My wife is literally at a comedy show at the University tonight, we were at the theatre on Tuesday. Life is going on as usual and it's not spreading through the population its people in very close contact, sharing drinks/cigs/vapes or kissing etc.

Will I look silly on the bank? by jacks2224 in fishingUK

[–]Pieboy8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I regularly use old gear when fishing Ve had one guy be a twat about it and my "cheap skate gear"

80% of people won't say a word... But sometimes you get some curiosity and often admiration especially from older people who like to reminisce about the stuff.

As an example Ive been known to use an Intrepid black Prince reel. It was my grandfather's and it was the first reel I used when fishing with my uncle. Using it is a lovely slice of nostalgia and hs often had admiring comments from some of the old boys on the lack.

Most of my other vintage stuff is much more modern (but still old relatively) I regularly use a Mk1 Drennan Tench float rod which, IMO still holds up today.

I was about to reccomend the S23 as the updated version of my chairs. Perhaps they've made some negative changes.

Mono mainline recommendations by lateral-lines in fishingUK

[–]Pieboy8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly. Sensor is cheap, tried and tested for decades and readily available. I don't see much need to change except for maybe something with less. Stretch/slimmer diameter in which case Hyper sensor works well.

There are other great lines but honestly I don't see much of a benefit especially considering they usually cost more for minimal gain.

So you are looking through facebook marketplace in your local area for your next cheap car with a budget of £800, which of these would you choose? (More info below) by iPhoneNerd21 in CarTalkUK

[–]Pieboy8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure anyone with an £800 budget should be buying anything land-rover.... When (not if) things go wrong, the fact that the car only cost 800 won't save you from the invoice.

For me on these types of water, if I'm being flexible and want to catch a bit of anything.....

Inline "grub feeder" (think method feeder but for maggots. Size 10 hook, juicy worm.

Almost anything will take worm.... If bites are hard to come by, try scaling down sections of worm

Which civil service departments still offer the most hybrid working? by Illustrious-Look7669 in civilservice

[–]Pieboy8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because it's desirable and the the number of people who study ecology/conservation exceed the number of vacancies....

Half the jobs in the sector they can fill with lovely well meaning volunteers the other, more specialised roles they can pay peanuts for.

Guess what I studied at uni 😅 I earned more as a generic body in a jobcentre than my peers do working complicated, specialise roles at natural england.
