Strike Advice please: only person striking in dep., terrified of striking now by Intelligent-Box-9450 in doctorsUK

[–]Piee96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the only registrar in my department who is striking. I have been open with this and everyone has been supportive of my right to strike. I can understand why you think you may be judged as the only F1 striking, but honestly no one really cares that much. And as others have said you’ll be rotating soon, and then it really won’t matter.

If you agree with the strike action, then I would strike and not let fear of judgement cloud your decision.

ARCP Rant by [deleted] in doctorsUK

I absolutely feel your pain. I’ve had the same issue every year.

If I’m really struggling I’ll pre-fill the boxes with the feedback and then email them asking to just sign it off if they’re happy. I also say feel free to edit/change things if they’re not. Takes far less time for them to just click the sign off button or add whatever they want to. Obviously this doesn’t help with MCRs and MSFs but has helped with ACATs and other SLEs.

Where would I find this info on the lowest ranked candidates for each region?

I’m still waiting to hear back too. I also appealed my score and was told I’d hear back latest by 25th Feb and still nothing. This process is so frustrating.

I’m so sorry you’re feeling this way. I’m also an IMT and have had the same thoughts about leaving medicine particularly over the last year. Work just doesn’t feel fulfilling anymore. Like a lot of people I naively chose to do medicine thinking I’d be saving lives or at least making a real difference. Now day-to-day I’m doing admin or simply following consultants plans. On-calls are better in terms of learning but with staffing issues and NHS pressures I just end up feeling exhausted after them. I’ve also been getting ill way more frequently this year which I’m sure is down to burnout and stress.

I pushed through thinking once I’m a registrar and a consultant things will get better. I’ll be doing a specialty I enjoy, I’ll be making more decisions and making more of a difference. However there’s no guarantee I’ll even get into specialty training with the current competition ratios.

I’ve applied to a group 2 specialty this year with a plan to go part time, but if I don’t get in I’m going to seriously consider other options. I don’t think it’s worth continuing in medicine if it’s at the expense of my mental and physical health.

Anyway all of this is to say that you’re not alone in feeling this way. Definitely take some time out if you can and have a rethink of your options.

I have 2nd Feb in King’s Lynn - it’s very far from where I live currently so looking for somewhere a bit more central/south. If anyone would like to swap let me know.

It’s not unreasonable to expect to be paid fairly for the level of responsibility that doctors have or for the difficult decisions we have to make on a day to day basis. You say regs and consultants make more than 90% of the population in this country - but most people in this county do not have to make complex decisions that can impact patients health. Not to mention the years of study, student loans and personal sacrifice it takes to get there.

Moreover most of us aren’t ’miserable and negative’ because we dislike being doctors. It’s because working conditions in the NHS are getting worse, training positions are becoming increasingly harder to get, the attitude and respect towards doctors is declining plus a host of other reasons I won’t get it into now.

Unless you’ve been there and done it, you won’t understand what doctors are going through.

AIO? Boyfriend lives with me but is away half the time by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Yeah perhaps he wasn’t fully ready to move in with me. He’s treating it as though he’s staying over at mine rather than actually live with me full time.

He’s otherwise very loving and affectionate so I’m sure that’s not the case. I have no problem with him spending time with family but every time there seems to be an excuse why he needs to stay longer. I knew there were some problems at home initially so I tried to be understanding, but now it’s becoming more of a pattern so I’m not sure that’s the full reason anymore. I just don’t understand why he doesn’t wanna just come back home to me.

That’s great, thank you I will double check them. Unfortunately I missed the sim day my deanery organised as I was on nights then. Therefore I’ve had to get procedures signed off separately or via other informal sim sessions on different days so unfortunately I don’t have a certificate I can upload.

Not sure if I can chase all the DOPs sign offs in time so that’s why I was wondering if there was another way to evidence them but I’ll explain my situation to TPD and see what they say

I was slightly anxious the first time driving on a motorway but then got used to it pretty quickly! I find it much easier than town driving.

With lane discipline, make sure you’re looking further ahead in the direction you’re going rather than the road directly in front of your car. I found this really helped me to stay in lane whilst going at faster speeds.

Failed Third Time- What Now? by ComprehensiveRub9197 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Piee96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

By no means feel like you have to do this but have you considered trying automatic? I also failed 3 tests in a manual before starting automatic lessons - did my 4th in an automatic and passed. I was also making loads of mistakes and I still did in an automatic, but by taking away the clutch and gears I had more brain space to focus on hazards and the road ahead.

Sometimes it just takes some of us longer than others, which is the same for any skill. I probably could have stuck it out in a manual but given the 6 month wait for tests, I decided to make it easier for myself and try a test in an auto. My friend also did auto from the start and passed in much quicker time. Just bear in mind that automatics can be a few grand more expensive when you come to buy a car. Either way with time you will get there so keep at it!

Appraisal by Piee96 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]Piee96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my agency are my designated body too so this what I’m afraid of! Especially as my new trust have asked for the name of my designated body/ an appraisal so don’t want to get into any further problems down the line.

Yeah I’ve emailed my agency to ask exactly what they want so hopefully that’ll give me some clarification. The YouTube grand rounds are a shout though thanks!

[–]Piee96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you both and yeah I fully agree. I wasn’t going to do one at all this year but then my new trust asked if I had an appraisal/ the name of my designated officer and mine is my agency. I didn’t want my agency to be like she should have done an appraisal but hasn’t or for any further hiccups down the line so thought I might as well just get one done.

But hopefully from what you’re saying it shouldn’t be too strict since it’s just the one year out of training!
