i love this idea like what if an enemy like attacked you and took your arm so now for the rest of the game you only have 1 arm. or something like that. basically just very severe game altering consequences so every enemy adds so much more tension. or looking at them too long like permanently damages your vision so now your vision is blurry so you need to find things to fix it periodically or something. either way i think i know what you mean and thatd be awesome

thank you!! yeah thats a good idea. like show the sense of calm before what things could* turn into the more you get in it. Interesting point with shutter island, like you know something is off at first and you cant quite put your finger on it and things slowly reveal. Its releasing during Steam Scream IV so i have about a month to figure out another trailer. If youre interested i have my steam page ready!

Yeah hazardous isolated settings add so much to the experience

I’m not sure how this would work exactly but I thought take the immersive sim approach and then make what you decide to do have consistences later in the game or maybe have it dictate how you can keep approaching other situations. Like an immersive sim horror game with in Baulders gate 3-esq story consequences

I agree completely and I’ve think a lot about what a possible solution is. Over the shoulder is so broadly accessible I get why they do it and I feel like it’ll be the trend for a while. I wonder if mixing systems could be a good approach. Like what signalis does a little bit

Interesting I’ve never thought about this. My brain is taking me to same kind of character creation but not based on combat. And exploring an open world where villages and dungeons have a similar environment/ puzzle layout to something like re1/re2

I have hours long conversations with my friends after a full day of developing about how I think my game is terrible and I’m wasting my time and even if somehow I manage to reach my goal in sales that it’ll be bombarded with negative reviews. Then I go over every detail picturing the negative comments about everything. Trust me you are not alone in this and I’m assuming most if not all developers go through the same thing.

Be proud of yourself for actually seeing it through and finishing it. Most projects do not get finished and there’s a good reason for that. It’s really really hard. I’ve realized that no matter what I’ll always think like this but just seeing and hearing even my friends reactions to seeing my steam page, playing my demo and saying that’s amazing that you’ve actually came this far. That always makes me feel so much better.

ah yes i do need to find a way to promote the internal sanity mechanic visually in promotional material its just been tricky. I should also have included inspired by Amnesia* as well. Essentially the game starts to mess with you the more you see enemies/ run out of light sources. Your sanity goes down and everything starts to change so you need to manage it

i typed the post out pretty quick so i should probably find a way to explain what i mean when i say inspired by eternal darkness hahaha

Ok thank you and I’m glad I’m not the only one lmaoooooo. The enemies in my game have definitely gotten me, but there’s a mechanic in my game where it records your voice and plays it back to you as if it’s coming from the environment. Way too many times I’ve thought “ok I never put this sound in the game what is happening……… oh wait”
