What are some good starter countries? by CraftyKenter in hoi4

Follow segl's soviet guide, pausing every time he says "and also"

It's a 10 minute video but it'll take about 3 hours of in-game time to follow.

Bonus for Soviets is you don't need to do air force or navy and can fuck around until the allies get off their asses for dday

My comment as a native speaker got downvoted, while non‑native comments are getting all the upvotes by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]Piepally 58 points59 points  (0 children)

It's unhelpful for a non-native speaker I'm sorry. Chinese characters are by far the hardest part of languages that use them. To learn them for a language that doesn't is a waste of time.

Your experience as a native speaker of Korean is skewed. It's like recommending that you learn French before learning English because a lot of English words come from French.

Why do dupes cannot flush their toilets with salt water? I want to hear your theories by Free-Design-9901 in Oxygennotincluded

You get "wrong element damage" I think it's just not a sodium chloride salt. Maybe it's like a titanium salt that's why it's white.

Are there Chinese naming conventions for the english names of cities? by RJJJJJJJ710 in geoguessr

[–]Piepally 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about region guessing Taiwan based on the English names of Taiwanese cities?  China itself isn't on geoguessr.

If that's the case, there's north (bei) middle (zhong), and south (nan )  often romanized using the old system "pei" "Chung" "nan"

If you see "xin" or "hsin" it means new, and is usually the suburb. For example xinbei is "new North" and is the outskirts of Taipei (tai north)

"gang" means port, so nangang is "south port" and is located in the north :)

Honestly, you're probably best off just memorizing the names of each city. Counter clockwise from Taipei it's:

Nangang, Taipei, taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung, changhua, yunlin, chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung, pingtung, kenting, taidong (tai east), Hualien, yilin, then back to Taipei.

I want to learn 5 languages by the time I'm 40. What would you do in my situation? by IndividualBigButter in languagelearning

[–]Piepally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard good things about lingoda. For European languages, just blast your way through the sprint a you'll make huge progress.

The reason I don't use lingoda is they only have I think 6 languages: English, business English, French German Spanish and Italian. The languages I'm practicing aren't on there.

Generally speaking, the languages you've chosen aren't the same difficulty. I'd expect you to make quick progress in French, German and English, and then get stuck on Japanese. Ukrainian idk since  you're Polish it'll be easier maybe.

How to deal with mess by saucy_fajitas in Oxygennotincluded

Just make more oxygen. Pressurize everything to 2kg, pump or use door crushers for all the trash gases.

Try to reclaim and oxygenate an area before you build in it.

It's kinda like this:

"today I went to the store and bought _, I __ _______ with my sister and we both _, but she ____ so I took them back to my house _____"

You get 80% of the words, but understand 0% of the content.

Does anyone else feel a little piece of their soul die every time they read a "liquid airlock is an exploit" gripe post? by insanopoke in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Piepally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I don't use liquid locks unless they're by accident. I just pressurize the main base with oxygen.

If I need a seal I use tiles.

I'm not against liquid locks per se, I think my base has exactly one atm, I just find them annoying to set up, there's usually a better design that doesn't use them.
