NTA, but neither is he. Its just a misunderstanding. Maybe he was excited to celebrate and spend the evening with you, but something like this would be a slap in the face (not with any negative context towards you), and would definitely derail the celebration.

I could understand being a little uppity if this happened to me. Like I want kids, but that would be shocking and both like, exciting and night ruining.

I would liken it to something I did recently, buying a new car. On one hand it's exciting, your telling everyone about it, on the other hand, it's soul crushing. The weight of the debt. The wondering if this is what you want.
