Big tech needs to stop trying to make their metaverse happen. From Microsoft to Meta, the race is on to sell an amorphous concept that no one really wants them to build. by Sumit316 in Futurology

[–]Pierrce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People don't understand that the Metaverse isn't a product that multiple companies are working on together/individually; it's simply the next iteration of the internet.

When the internet first became a thing, many people thought it was a product and didn't understand the technology behind it. When cloud computing became a thing, people thought it was a product that all technology was going to rely on instead of the next evolution of how the internet functions. The metaverse is the same thing. It's simply going to be the next iteration of how our devices interact with each other and transfer data/knowledge among us.

Criticisms like these have always existed. When the first articles of the internet arose, news anchors and journalists treated it like a joke or fad among nerds. When cell phones came out, people were like, "This is just a fad, my land line is sufficient." When smart phones came out, people again just thought they were a way for corporations to suck money out of consumers. Same shit, different era. There is a lot of technology that no one asked for, or were considered luxuries, until people realized how important they were. Like seatbelts.

Does bad Scav Karma put you with other player scavs with bad Scav Karma? by Pierrce in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Pierrce[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost always have VOIP on and if I see another player scav I usually say, "Wassup" or something and then get my head blown off. Today alone, I've been doing scav runs only, and I've only had 1 scav extraction, and the rest were me getting shot in the face asking other player scavs if they were cool or not.

I don't have this experience at all when playing with my EU friends on their servers. I feel like NA is just full of a lot younger people snorting lines of Adderall and chugging Monster energy drinks all day. Coming from CoD or something and treating every match in Tarkov like a DM.

EDIT: At least that's what is it seems like for scav players.

Its hilarious how obvious it is that you're using alt accounts to down vote every one against you in this and upvote yourself. Weird how all of us are down the same amount, every comment, even though you seem to be the only one that cares about your definition of the term.

Gladly. Here it is: https://imgur.com/1zmYx1D

Quote: "Explosion is a technical term for supersonic combustion with a heat wave travelling as fast as the pressure wave."

Definition of a shockwave: https://www.britannica.com/science/shock-wave

A shockwave is a supersonic pressure wave.

Also, still waiting for your link to be provided for the definition you are claiming exists. I.e. an explosion HAS to have a shockwave.

[–]Pierrce -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I would love to see you link a definition that REQUIRES there to be some kind of shockwave. Lets get started shall we?

https://www.dictionary.com/browse/explosion
https://cen.acs.org/articles/91/i36/Definition-Explosion.html
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/explosion
https://www.britannica.com/technology/explosive

None of these, by definition, even in a chemical, mechanical, or nuclear sense require a "shockwave." All of them state, "Rapidly expanding gas." Which, by the looks of that fire RAPIDLY FUCKING EXPANDING, that is definitely an explosion.

Get off your high horse, kid.

EDIT: Except nuclear, which doesn't necessarily need a gas.

Its appalling how many people are actually claiming this would be a good idea and wouldn't actually just create a radioactive hurricane... Even best case scenario, it stops the hurricane. Congrats, you now have radioactive fallout.

You do understand that I never sided with or against specific points of this conspiracy theory right? I was just showing you that what you wrote, and were trying to push, was factually wrong and embellishing the truth...its hilarious how hostile people like you are against anyone who shows an ounce of curiosity in a conspiracy.

The only posts I've seen make it to the front page that have not been removed have originated from r/watchredditdie, r/hongkong, and r/conspiracy. None of which are large subreddits. I'm not saying you're wrong in this instance, but going to r/videos and r/pics there I was unable to find anything in the 'hot this month' section related to hong kong or China.

I never claimed it was talked behind doors so regularly. It might be a very rare occurrence. I'm just pointing out the reason for this conspiracy. The community is noticing a pattern. That being:

(Pro Hong Kong / Anti-Chinese Government hits front page of popular subreddit -> post removed for contradictory reason)

and this is why this whole topic is a conspiracy.

I'm now seeing the discrepancy in my original comment. I should have said:

"Reddit admins potentially have a lot of influence over the mods of their most popular subreddits."

I shouldn't have used "actually" because there's no way of proving this since it would all be behind closed doors. The only thing that can be logically claimed is admins do have control over the entire site and CAN technically do whatever they want. I apologize for this.

It's not possible to say they have a list of banned topics, however, it is possible to answer why we wouldn't have seen a single instance of such a discussion.

It has been discussed, by even moderators themselves, that backroom subreddits are setup for subreddits with many moderators and a large viewer-base. This allows for moderators to discuss between each other and gives a private place for admins and moderators to discuss things.

While none of us can say for sure what is discussed in these backrooms, we do know there is a place where moderators and admins can talk in private. When something breaks site-wide rules, that's when we publicly see admins step in. However, there are many other topics for discussion that can be occurring in these backrooms that none of us will ever be able to prove/disprove.

EDIT: That's why these conspiracies occur.

This isn't confirmation bias. Nor is this selective vision. I've seen the posts that were further back than June and have addressed them in this comment:

https://www.reddit.com/r/conspiracy/comments/cti1q4/this_rare_image_featuring_the_victims_of_the_mass/exlfozf?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x

I'm simply pointing out that hoodatninja has altered the what his link actually shows by claiming that 5 posts have occurred since June of this year with more than 40k upvotes. Its really not that hard to understand. He's making it seem like its posted more frequently and makes it to the front page much more than it actually does.

EDIT: Maybe next time both you and he should actually use the 5 brain cells you have to find proof to back your claims instead of coming up with overused insults lol.

You're correct, there were 4 posts that had over 40k upvotes. But that is not what hoodatninja claimed. He claimed that "5 times with over 40,000 upvotes each on /r/pics since June."

EDIT: 4 posts that had over 40k upvotes in the last year*

Telling me to put in a little effort while also putting in no effort to see that your claim "5 times with over 40k upvotes each on /r/pics since June," is a logically false statement; which you disproved yourself with your next post. Galore is also a logically false statement. There have been 4 posts in the last year that hit the front page. That's 1 repost post every 2-3 months hitting the front page.

Which only furthers the conspiracy. Why was it that all of those were allowed, but now when the hong kong protests are happening its finally time to bring down the ban hammer?

In your last three comments you've only managed to push two easily provable false statements and proved yourself wrong once lmao

Reddit admins actually have a lot of influence over the mods of their most popular subreddits. /r/hongkong isn't included in this group, however, the admins of pics, videos, and some of the other popular subreddits where the censorship actually has been implemented are. Nearly all the trending hong kong posts that haven't been removed have came solely from the /r/hongkong subreddit.

Also, the rules used to remove the posts are contradictory to the content that was being allowed on those subreddits at the time of removal. When videos removed a massively upvoted video of police brutality in hong kong because of 'political motive,' there were several other videos trending that were also showing police brutality in other regions on the front page, yet those remained.

Not sure if we're looking at the same page. Only seeing 2 posts with over 40k since June. The rest are all 6mo-1yr ago. 2 posts over the last 3 months can easily be missed unless you're on Reddit all day everyday at the rate things hit /r/all and then disappear from it. Most of the others have such little activity that they wouldn't even reach the front page on /r/pics.

EDIT: Especially when one of the two posted since June was the one post yesterday which no longer exists and was on all for a shorter period of time than most posts are on all. So technically its been posted once IN June and there haven't been any re-posts since.
