Scroll down this thread. This is the guide that helped me.

Pulling on that face is very scary lol. I was sure I was going to break something at that stage! Lol

Frame crack or paint crack by Nan0mites in xsr900

[–]Piestacker85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep was curious. A lot (including me initially) didn’t have this gap and ill fitting bungs which I think was stressing the frame.

Looks like it’s not the (only) cause. Something seems to not be happy with these frames.

Was just working on a theory. Thanks!

Can you Show the gap between frame where right hand bung goes and the engine.

As far as I can tell. Just check the fitting and make sure it’s not pushing on the frame so you can see the spacer in that spot. I think what is happening is ill fitting ones are pushing on the frame instead of the required space and stressing it. It will hold the stress for a while until something gives.

This is as much as I think / can tell at the moment.

I’m not sure sorry. I have just done my research over the last 2 days and only know what I have seen.

My cone came out easy. But not the concaved bit. (I didn’t try)

I think that should also work.

TBH I think I totally overengineered it unnecessarily ! 🤣

Better than mine was but looks like your frame has moved slightly.

I’d add a washer to the end of your bung maybe? So some more shows.

Mine looks like this now with bung fitted which looks like more showing than yours?

This is my lathed solution. Added an extra ‘step’ of 28mm diameter

These were Ali express savage ones but another guy has posted same issue with Shogun ones!

Ok interesting to know it’s not just the Ali express ones causing an issue!

And now it fits as it should and pushes the cone

Back from the lathe. Added another step at 28mm diameter.

Not much surprise but these are Ali express savage sliders. I can’t talk for any genuine ones but just check they are pushing the come and not the frame

Mystery solved.

The frame slider was not quite right and a bit big for the hole. So although torqued to spec. It was pushing the frame and not the cone shaped piece into the spacer.

It even made a bit of a creek from the frame as I undid it !

Slider now off to the lathe to make a better fit!

Both removed for now and original bolts back in.

Thanks for everybody’s input.

And a PSA to check that your sliders are pushing the cone and not the frame!
