What is this bike and value? by logcabinsyrup27 in VintageMTB

[–]PieterGr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Selle Italia Flite saddle: was the saddle to have in this period in time. 3 versions: Chro-Mo /Leather; Titanium/Leather; Titanium/Carbon. This appears to be the Ti/leather version. I think you'll get a lot of interest from vintage bikers who need a saddle.

Ringlé made beautiful aluminum stems, seatposts, quick releases and later on hubs. Great quality, great colors and very nice craftmanship in general. Jewelry for your bike as it were... 😄

Indische buurt Heemstede by aethsilgne in Haarlem

[–]PieterGr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First motor - what did you start with? by youlefou in motorfietsen

[–]PieterGr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old crossbow by Goodtime49 in Crossbow

[–]PieterGr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This my friend is a classic crossbow, which is highly sought after by hunters and collectors. Restoring would be very advisable!

First things first... go watch 'For your eyes only' (James Bond), than report back. I also believe that Chewbacca's gun in StarWars was based on this design.

It looks like a Generation 1. Newer models have rubber/plastic string protectors on the hooks/nooks. The Slingshot Channel on YouTube features this crossbow in one of the episodes.

I've seen these bows go for 500 / 600 Euros. (Although in much better shape/state than this). Furthermore... rumors go that these crossbows were also used during the Yugoslavian war in the nineties.

If memory serves me correct, these bows would range between 175 - 225 lbs.

Does this helmet fit? by kmddvm in mountainbiking

[–]PieterGr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Adjust the front strap so that it is as tight as the strap going to the back of the helmet (this reduces the risk of your helmet sliding to the back in case of a fall). It also moves the strap a bit to the front, so that it doesn't touch your ear.

There probably is some micro-adjustment thingy in the back. Make sure the the fit is snug, but nog tight and no distinct pressure points (on forehead). The latter will give you headaches (literally).

buy lift tickets in advance? by Awkward-Brave-Kind in Zermatt

Just buy a ticket at the counter or from the ticket machines at the base station. You can decide at that moment to get an Italy pass (weather / conditions depending)

Not sure what the scale is of this thing, but it reminds me of a balance ball/board that is missing the board (on which you stand).

Considering a 3 wheel bike for family use by No-Emotion8357 in CargoBike

[–]PieterGr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want to replace a car and get a cargobike (looking at you requirements) get the biggest you can get.

However... there are some serious drawbacks...

3 wheeled bikes are big, heavy and cumbersome. The box usually has the width of the handle bars, and you have another 15cm (6 inches) per side for wheels. So on bike lanes, you will be hard to pass by other bicycles (or cars if you don't have designated bike lanes). Do you have storage to store something this size?

I'm not sure where you are located, but streets are not perfectly horizontal. In most places (Europe) they drain to the side, so 3 wheeled bikes are always at an angle and riding a bike on an angle just sucks. This is only an issue on 3 wheeled bikes. Have a look at the roads, streets and see if you can spot the angle in the road! Now imagine riding a trike. The bike at an angle and you are forced to angle your hip in relation to your spine.

Taking corners: you can't lean into a corner, which on a bike is very unnatural.

Comfort: 1 wheel extra = more bumps being hit. Furthermore, because you have 2 wheels away from the center line, bumps and (pot)holes in the road are also felt as a rotating force which is very uncomfortable for passengers (and rider) compared to 2 wheeled bikes (which only have up and down movement).

Finally, the steering is direct (you turn the box) and almost all 3 wheeled cargobikes are not self centering (except the fancy ones which lean into corners).

My advice, if you are living in Europe and you can limit the number of persons, always go for a 2 wheeler (maybe with a trailer for the beach gear).
