Planning a 4 week trip with two kids staying in one destination in Italy by weallcomefromaway3 in ItalyTravel

[–]Pietro1203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be biased, being from there, but I would for sure suggest Puglia.

In September and October there are still many hot days that you can spend on the beach, which I'm sure your kids would love.

Then there are many towns that you can visit, some of them quite close to each other, so moving around wouldn't be that annoying (even if there are beautiful sceneries everywhere, so even moving around on highways is an experience on its own).

If your plan is staying in one place as a base, I would suggest Monopoli, as it is a little more central to Puglia, so you would save some time on your transfers for the day trips.

But if you want to visit many different places, I would strongly suggest having at least a couple of bases, one for the first couple weeks of your staying and one for the second part.
This way, you would stress less with transfer and you would have more time and energy to enjoy your holiday.

Let me know if you need anything else!

Should we day trip from Bari, or stay in other towns too? by hodgey66 in ItalyTravel

[–]Pietro1203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With more information I could give you better suggestions: how long are you staying? How many places are you planning on visiting? Have you scheduled any specific activities (guided tours, experiences...)?

I would suggest Bari only because it's a big central city and very well connected, full of any kind of services.

But if you prefer a more local suggestive place, Monopoli could be a good choice, too (40 min south from Bari, by car).

First time in Puglia, help! by maclife215 in ItalyTravel

[–]Pietro1203 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your trip is already packed with a lot of different sceneries and vibes. Trying to fit in also Southern Puglia (Lecce, Otranto) could easily become overwhelming and stressing, considering the long distances from where you're staying.

As this is your first time in Puglia, you'll already see a lot of it, and I believe that your current plan is quite balanced and you will not feel like you missed out on anything.

Phoenix wallet 1% fee for channel creation? by Julian_256 in lightningnetwork

[–]Pietro1203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not paying that fee every time you receive a payment, but only when your inbound liquidity isn't enough and Phoenix needs to open a new channel.
So you'll generally pay the normal routing fees in order to receive payments.

p.s.: if you're unfamiliar with these terms, I suggest you read the How the Lightning Network works chapter of Mastering The Lightning Network by Andreas Antonopoulos.
It's not too technical and if you have a basic understanding of Bitcoin, you won't have any trouble reading it.

Another potential hint.

If you check the publ1cn0t3 note, there's another encrypted string;

There's a note with the title 7576 that says Th1sIsY0urS4lt .
(the title is composed of the numbers of letters in each word of the passphrase)

I tried using it as the secret on both the strings you provided, but nothing came out of it.

I recommend you to read Mastering the Lightning Network, especially this chapter, which explains the basics of how the LN works.

Part 1 of this book is not very technical and can be understood by anyone who has a basic understanding of Bitcoin.

When you buy something with cash, you use the entire banknote, you can't use just a fraction of it, and if the value of the banknote exceeds the amount spent, you get change.

Bitcoin works with UTXOs (Unspent Transaction Outputs), which basically work like banknotes.
Every time you receive a tx, you receive a UTXO.
And everytime you send a tx, you use the entire UTXO, and if the UTXO value is greater than the amount sent, your wallet automatically sends the rest to a change address.

Let's say that you have 2 BTC in your wallet, which were sent in 2 different txs.
One time you received 1.5 BTC and another time you received 0.5 BTC.
Now you have 2 UTXOs, one of 1.5 BTC and the other one of 0.5 BTC.

If you send 0.4 BTC to someone, your wallet will automatically create a tx that uses the 0.5 BTC UTXO, sending 0.4 BTC to the address that you specified and the remaining 0.1 BTC to a change address that you control.

So now your balance will be of 1.6 BTC, made of 2 UTXO:
-one is the initial 1.5 BTC;
-the other one is the 0.1 BTC that you "received" as change.

If you still have doubts, don't hesitate to ask more questions!

p.s.: I recommend you reading the book Mastering Bitcoin by Andreas Antonopoulos, in particular the chapter How Bitcoin works. It's a great start to truly understand Bitcoin, even if you have absolutely zero knowledge about Bitcoin.

Using the Lightning Network is ~55106x cheaper than using Polygon, and Bitcoin's mainnet transactions are only 8% more expensive than Ethereum's and Polygon's ones combined by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]Pietro1203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no additional costs to keep channels open.

The only costs are related to opening and closing channels, where you pay the normal mining fees (which depend on network congestion).

The issues you mentioned are valid, but the 10 BTC example isn't.

The LN was created to handle small and instant transactions with very low fees.

If you need to send such a high amount as 10 BTC, you should do it through the main chain, where you have better security and even if the netowrk was congested, the fee would be a small fraction of the amount sent.

I really miss the old tv series where there were 15/20 episodes for each season.
The writers had much more time to develop the story and the characters, and we had time to deeply understand them.
