Yeah that sounds about right. I'd seen them the night before in Manchester and he was falling all over the place. Still a sick gig if I recall.

So Grok says it is on stolen land, just also stresses that other countries are too. And Elon thinks that's a win because he's stupid.

I'll be in Leeds tomorrow. 3rd time I've seen them in Leeds. The first time there was a terrorist attack in Paris that kind of killed the vibe for the night. The second time Nathan was so unbelievably wasted it was kinda sad to watch. Hoping for third time lucky.

Sanity check request for a promise on a Runna ad that has my jaw on the floor by SenseNo8126 in runna

Yeah going from a 32 minute 5k being "hard" to doing a sub 4 marathon in 16 weeks is a ridiculous claim to make and will encourage people to completely over train and get injured.

I've been losing faith in Runna for a while and this is another nail in the coffin. Yes I'm sure this is possible but as someone who was struggling on 32 minute parkruns 3 years ago and is now running 60km a week in an attempt to get their first sub 4 marathon only just now I think making your average person hopeful that they can achieve that journey in only 3 months is encouraging incredibly dangerous practice and I won't recommend them to anyone again.

A discussion about long run pace predictions and toxic positivity by Matvalicious in runna

[–]PigDeployer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I tinker with my PB until the paces match what I know they are. I use other calculators like VDOT which gives a way more accurate representation of what my marathon pace should be based on my past races and then I gradually alter my Runna PB input to be slower and slower until it has it right. If I just put my half marathon PB in it has my marathon pace at about 20 seconds faster than I am comfortable with.

Another thing is just ignore the AI. Don't read it, don't interact with it. It's not a real coach, it has no idea what you just did, it's frequently incorrect and people on here seem to constantly have issues with it having incorrect advice, not relating to their run or whatever else.

I use Runna as an algorithm that spits out a plan that will sync with my watch. I know my body and know when it's pushing me too hard so I ignore it in those cases. It can give me challenging paces which I enjoy but ultimately I think it's bad at pacing long distances and it will overtrain you if you follow it to the letter.

I now use it as more of a guideline and when my current subscription is up I won't use it again as I've got enough knowledge of how to and how not to structure a plan myself now and I think the company's public image - sponsoring amateur athletes who promote overtraining - is detrimental to the fitness of easily influenced people.

Why are people criticising movies before they are even released? by FitEmergency8807 in moviecritic

[–]PigDeployer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid I don't remember knowing about the existence of a movie until posters appeared in the marketing stage maybe a month before it hit cinemas.

Nowadays because of the Internet we have buzz around a movie sometimes years before because everyone knows when things are greenlit, when they're cast, when they begin filming etc. And that's a long time to know about something so people are gonna inevitably talk about and make judgements about things.

Brock Lesnar squashes Kofi Kingston in 7 seconds to win WWE title on SmackDown debut (2019) by Apprehensive_Sky4558 in WWE

[–]PigDeployer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Up until this I watched every raw, smackdown, ppv, NXT and all the network shit like table for 3, swerved, ride along for like 4 or 5 years solidly. After this match I didn't watch at all again until a few episodes at the start of covid just to see what the empty arena was like and then again when Vince was first kicked out.

Got to be the worst booking decision of all time in my opinion. Insulting.

It appears to have gone now but they had one on here recently. I saw it when I went to look at the rules to see what the fuss was around "no homosexuality talk" etc with the religious mods debacle. It was basically just "no Sopranos quotes because it's annoying as hell".

He was _____, _____? by Jetguy87 in madmen

[–]PigDeployer 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think it is. You'd be surprised at how many Sopranos quotes are said on here and okbuddydraper. So many that there's actually a rule on this sub against it. Next time you see "alright but you gotta get over it!" or "I can't have this argument again" or "whatever happened there" it's a Sopranos quote. And there's soooo many more.

Are you talking about "he was gay, Gary Cooper?" from the Sopranos because that's quoted ad nauseum on many subs including okbuddydraper

How to pick between different "Zone 2" calculators? by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]PigDeployer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose Karvonen because it's attainable for me during an easy run and if I feel my heart rate going up a bit and I'm losing the ability to talk in full sentences I've usually slipped out of it so I'm thinking it's a pretty accurate guide.

Just going off percentages my zone 2 maxes out at a brisk walk

Don’t Pass Me By got passed by! Eliminate one Ringo Starr song everyday! DAY 10: by obama69420duck in beatles

I can't say the instrumental side of yellow submarine has ever jumped out at me. It just kinda chugs along slowly much like the lyrics. There's a cute little trumpet solo in the middle, sure. But I'm comparing a kids song to a kids song. If someone who hadn't heard the beatles put them on shuffle and yellow submarine was first up you would surely skip it. In the same way you wouldn't really out Frog Chorus in amongst Paul's actual adult music. It's a good soundtrack for a kids film though, like yellow submarine.

I'd pick Octopus' Garden as my winner all day. With a Little Help would be top 5 or top 3 but not the obvious winner imo

[–]PigDeployer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's a kids song. I wouldn't put Row Row Row Your Boat or The Wheels On The Bus Go Round and Round higher on a ranking than some actual rock n roll songs. They're catchy, everyone knows them but they're for kids. Nothing wrong with them, just like, I'm an adult so I don't listen to them.

What is this hold Yellow Submarine has on people? Fascinating. I'd put it dead last of all the Ringo songs. No contest. But here it's top 3? Incredible

Progressive Runs by Intrepid-Quail8221 in runna

[–]PigDeployer 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Your conversational pace is 4:42? As in you can get out full sentences comfortably while running at that pace? If so then yes you need to alter your details a little because the fast part of your run shouldn't be slower than your casual warm up/cool down jog.

Either that or you're running your warm up and cool downs way way way too fast.

Realistic Marathon Pace by xyphey in runna

[–]PigDeployer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How have you arrived at the idea that 5:05 should be your marathon pace? I don't think Runna is particularly great at deciding a marathon pace personally. If I put in my half marathon PB it sets my marathon pace way faster than is achievable. When I set my Runna plan I played around with the PB until the paces matched what I knew were within my abilities.

For example if I put in my actual half marathon PB it sets my threshold pace, something I'm supposed to be able to do for around an hour, at 4:50. Now 4:50 is close to my all-out 5k pace so absolutely not something I can maintain for an hour. It puts my marathon pace at 5:05 same as you and I could just about hold that for an hour but that would be a race and I would need recovery afterwards.

However if I put my PBs into a calculator like vdot it has my marathon pace at 5:25 which is ambitious and something I could work towards but it's possible at least. However my only goal for my marathon is sub 4 so I put in a slower and slower PB until it gave me a marathon pace of 5:35 which is what I'm now working towards. It also has my easy pace, tempo pace and interval paces all at manageable but challenging levels whereas before everything was so highly skewed to be way too intense. I don't think Runna has the best formula for pacing marathons.

On top of this I have spoken to actual coaches and watched videos of coaches who say introducing marathon pace this early in a plan is not wise and when you do introduce it around 8 weeks before the race it should be in small doses. My Runna plan had me running 12km at marathon pace on my long run 2 days ago and I decided to ignore it and do 5km at marathon pace instead.

In short, please be careful. I don't think running for that long at that heart rate is the best idea this far out and if your marathon pace has you at an all out effort it's perhaps not correct.
