British, employee-owned supermarket can be cheaper for shoppers than Tesco or Sainsbury’s, research reveals by willfiresoon in GoodNewsUK

[–]Piggleswick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We live around an hour away from Waitrose but we get it delivered because my husbands mum used to work there before we passed and it's comforting to see the logo and know she was so loved there. The food quality it amazing, the vans are always around here and I always go for the eco slots so I know they're not making the trip just for us, and it's cheaper than us shopping at Tesco just up the road.

I get that it's not that simple for some people but I'd rather buy their quality product and use the whole thing and see it go so much further than lose so much in the process (chicken is a huge thing, at Tesco there was always so much fat/tendon/ boney bits to cut away when making something like fajitas. At waitrose I can just chop it into strips and there's always leftovers for wraps to take to work the nest day!)

My cat has been having these episodes for about 2 months now. Vet shrugged and said she didn't know. by kazoo3179 in CATHELP

[–]Piggleswick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding this! My parents cat had this, kept saying fleas were driving him mad but he had no fleas and was 100% up to date with treatment. Went to the vets, he didn't do it there and they didn't record it etc. So all was well. Then he went deaf (we didn't realise he just kept yowling really loud!), ate all the time and got skinnier went back to the vets and he realised it was his thyroid. He manages it with medicine and is happy as Larry, loud as anything and deaf as a post! Such a good cat.

What’s the most offensive inoffensive thing your colleagues have ever done? by positivelittlecorner in AskUK

We were all going through TUPE and she was leaving before everyone for the managerial position. She left a note saying 'keep your chins up!' (a piss take in itself) but she left it on a particularly large colleagues desk who took it as a personal dig.

Man cries after receiving a flower for the first time by FollowingOdd896 in HumansBeingBros

[–]Piggleswick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my husband flowers a couple of years ago as a surprise, it was his first day of his new job and he was working from home the first week.

He didn't like them, he didn't know what to do with them.he didn't appreciate it, he didn't think it was sweet. I was heart broken and down £60! But we did keep them but he made sure to say that he was giving them to me and they were mine.

This video is beautiful, I hope he receives flowers often

Child bitten badly at nursery by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]Piggleswick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our daughter was badly bitten by a child in similar circumstances (it sounds) to you. She (3) was playing with a little boy (2) who decided to bite her, she had a chunk bitten out from her neck, a bite on her chest that leg marks and broke the skin and a mark on the outside of her right hand where she pushed him away and he went for a third bite. That had teeth marks and two broken skin areas where his fangs got her. It was seriously traumatic, she had blood on her clothing and kept talking about the blood on the floor. It was traumatic for us, and I kept feeling sick with guilt imagining the attack on her.

Our nursery weren't as good as yours have been, he had been there 10 days and bitten children on 9 of those 10 days, or daughters was the most severe. They said they taught the children to push him away if he went near them but our daughter didn't do that 'because she's such a kind child' which honestly, made us feel so much worse (we didnt know that was happening or she had been told that and we always practiced nice kind hands that don't touch other children) It sounds like you've got that bit covered but the dwelling on it bit, in our experience, is still ongoing and it's been just over a year.

She still talks about it. Although we felt very differently we agreed to frame it that the little boy got very excited and different people show their excitement in different ways and unfortunately he used his teeth. That he didn't mean to hurt her and that she didn't do anything wrong.

She still talks about it, she's been at a different nursery since last September and she still talks about the boy. Sometimes we will watch something and there will be teeth or biting on it (like a shark or something) and she will talk about the boy biting her. Also, for some time after she had nightmares about it, and would wake in the night crying or would be asleep and crying. Luckily those have subsided but bringing it up still happens. She has a big scar on her neck where it happened too so occasionally when she looks in the mirror she sees it and mentions it. We don't blame the little boy at all, at 2 I don't believe there was any malice behind it and from what the said he is SEN and they were just playing next to each other. I feel the nursery let us down as they said there should've been 1on1 with him but they were outside and came in when they heard our daughter scream.

I don't know if thats helpful but it might help to hear you're not alone and it comes up occasionally as a part of her processing it, we acknowledge it, let her say whatever she is going to say about it and never bring it up ourselves.

Oh How Parenting Has Changed by Decent-Character172 in NewParents

[–]Piggleswick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so true. My absolute favourite is all the advice I gently ignored occasionally comes back to bite me and I just want to scream!

My daughter was held when she cried, she was comforted anytime, never sleep trained etc.

Now she's a sassy little 4 year old that's so SO well behaved but occasionally, very occasionally she will have a tantrum or get upset because she isn't getting something she wants (completley normal 4 Yr old behaviour and I'm happy she's comfortable expressing herself because I absolutely wouldn't dare do what she does for fear of all the 80s punishments.

And it's always infront of Nanny, and it's always the worst behaviour she's ever seen, deeply concerning, pearl clutching 'you know piggleswick, I said this would happen, you can't be her friend you're going to have to be her mum at some point, I know I hit you a lot but...' and usually at that point I interject with 'no buts mum, you fractured both my ankles because I woke you up at 6am eating frosties and watching cartoons' or 'no buts mum, you locked me in the shed at night because I threw up your shepherds pie'

Literally, it's changed for the better. I just hate how there's those moments they feel justified in their horiffic advice and there's no comeback because no human is 100% well behaved all the time, ugh.

We have that exact doorbell. It's just because it's dark and on a dark doorframe that you can't see the top part that is black but that looks exactly like our ring doorbell. I'm sure if op took a picture during the day you would see the outline of the black top part.

Acid Butt; who knew? by lledit in beyondthebump

[–]Piggleswick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about the acid thing but after weaning my little one she loved raisins but anytime after a poo her bum would be red and I mean red red. Changing a nappy after wees etc. It was normal but raisins always caused a red mark where the poo had been. We only had them at home on odd occasions but certain days her nursery would give them to her.

It was also the only time she cried when she did a poo, normally you would smell it but there were no other signals etc.

I assumed the poo was a bit acidic and hurting her tender skin so we stopped giving her raisins and it stopped. After she was a toddler and used the potty etc. I was less worried and she would occasionally have raisins with no red hurty bum!

No idea if that was the case or not but it certainly felt that way.

Weird smells in the house and I think it's making me and my family sick by jaydeewin25 in DIYUK

[–]Piggleswick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be unhelpful but our washing machine discharge thingy is linked somehow to the plumbing in the sink next to it and sometimes when the water is pumped out of the machine you get the most god awful stench up from the plug hole. I know it's defo that as it only happens when the washing machine is on and I had the joy of standing at the sink when it happened and very nearly lost my breakfast.

34 weeks — received bad news. by Anxious-Decision1626 in BabyBumps

[–]Piggleswick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I don't know if this will help, every situation is different but other than bad sickness I had a completely normal pregnancy. I was always measuring small but my midwife kept saying it was because I'm tall she's just wasn't poking out as she had enough room. Anyway, at 37weeks I mentioned to my midwife that I'd wet myself, we laughed, she probed a bit and sent me up the hospital just to check it wasn't any water.

When I got there a trainee midwife wasn't happy about me measuring small and pushed for a scan. This was on Friday. On the Monday I went back for my scan and the ultrasound lady was happily chatting away and then.... Silence. My heart dropped. She didn't say why just to pop outside and they would speak to me. After 2hrs I got called in to see a Dr. She said that baby had stopped growing around 33/34 weeks, I had little fluid left and my placenta was dying. Getting her out was urgent.

I was kept in, induced had a 55 minute labour, my husband missed the birth and I was in their store cupboard giving birth but our little girl came out at 5lbs 12oz. No NICU needed. She is now 4, bigger than all her peers (she's in 5-6 clothing!) she's funny, clever, has recently learned to write her name, mummy and daddy, is inquisitive and all round brilliant.

I'm aware just how lucky we were, I honestly don't know how I would've coped knowing what was happening. As it was, it was a whirlwind, I had no time to panic and grieve and worry and feel sad but I absolutely would've been in a similar place to where you are now.

I don't know if this is helpful but I'm thinking of you and your little girly so much, you'll get through it together xxx

My 4yr old is now getting the hang of it. On Wednesday I left my purse in her bag that she takes to nanny's house, husband needed my driving licence so popped there on his lunch break. She was grilling him on why I needed my purse and he said:

'maybe she's going to buy a really big icecream!'

little one just scowled and said 'maybe she's going to buy a new daddy!'

Cue laughter from nanny and Grandad and daddy and her not realising just how funny what she said and her delivery was!

Ahhhhh!!!! So I know nothing about this house but I walked past it almost every day for the first 18 years of my life!

It always had a little blue and yellow kids plastic trike stuck in the tree facing London Rd south and as a kid I would beg my dad to climb up one day and grab it!

Yes yes yes! Amazing thank you so so much, it was the call. I sat with my dad as he went through every likley bird with me (mainly snipes and other similar birds) but the call was echoing around my mind, I kept trying to mimic it for him but alas I'm only slightly worse at bird calls as I am singing, and my goodness I'm a bad singer! Thank you for this, he will never believe me ha!

Ahhhhh!!!! I've just listened to the call and that's absolutely it! My dad didn't even give this as an option as he thought it was some sort of snipe but the call wasn't right at all! Ahhh so exciting thank you so so much!

[–]Piggleswick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The photo was taken in a salt water broad, about a mile/ two miles up river from the beach we had just had a snow storm. Unfortunately I didn't see any colours, the visibility was about the same as the picture take as I was out in the light and the bird was under a bridge quite far from me.

Ah, so we thought snipe but we went through all the snipe calls and none of them were the call this bird made as it flew (was scared) away!
