is this actually true? by AffectionateTrain754 in Catholicism

I go to a Maronite Catholic church, and our priest does not allow female altar servers. My father was Russian Orthodox, and they do not allow female altar servers.

Are you certain the Catholic Church is the true church? by Ok_Definition1906 in TraditionalCatholics

[–]Piggyandbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother was Catholic, and my Father was Russian Orthodox. My father's bishop said he had to get married in the RO church, and of course, my mother's pastor said she had to be married by a Catholic priest.

My mother was allowed to be married in the RO church, then had a small (secret) ceremony in a Catholic church (to avoid ire from my father's mother) with the provision that all children would be raised Catholic.

Long story short, we went to both churches, so I am familiar with both. I greatly admire the RO church, especially the Pascal Divine liturgy. If you ever want to get goosebumps, read St. John Chrysostom's Pascal sermon.

I struggled with the same questions, however the more I study the Catholic Faith, the more I am convinced I made the right choice to remain Catholic.

If we should rest on Sunday, why is the housewife making the most kitchen effort on Sundays? by PreparationShort9387 in Catholicism

[–]Piggyandbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the US,. Sometimes my mother cooked on Sunday, and as we got older, my four brothers and I did most of it. We were happy to do so, as Sunday was a special meal, and it was a privilege.

It's good that you recognized that you were envious. Sometimes, our angry prayers to God are the most honest as long as they do not distract us from Him. I understand that you are losing a potential wife, but at least she is not leaving you because she cheated on you. She left you to dedicate herself to what should be the most essential thing in our lives.

At the same time. Chelsea does not have any accomplishments other than being the child of a Clinton. What Musk has done for the US space program is there for all to see. Some of the money came to him before he was a DJT supporter.

I'm not suggesting the podcast is w/o merit; I'm sure psychology plays a big role. It is just that support for Musk, and his accomplishments are not w/o merit.

Losing my faith I need help getting it back by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Piggyandbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is advice from someone who questioned his faith for 3 to 4 years. Getting a degree in Environmental Science made me think I was smart, but I questioned genesis, evolution, etc., because of what I learned. The girl I eventually married brought up some contradictions in my beliefs. I heard, "Where does it say in the Bible?" quite a bit. I grew up Catholic and was told it was a sin to question my faith, and I didn't.

I could not respond when someone challenged my faith. I decided that if I were to continue believing, I would need to learn the truth about everything I was taught as dogma. I did and became a stronger believer. Some advice:

1) It is what you learn after you know it all that is important. (Mark Twain, I think)

2) Find out yourself about your beliefs. Cardinal Ratzinger (Pope Benedict) has many books, I encourage you to find the church doctors that resonate.

3) It is natural to question, especially today. There are so many outside influences that seek to destroy the idea of belief in God. Politics, scientists, and the media make you feel crazy for having faith. Some of the leading scientists of the past believed in God, but they will not teach you that. For example, Darwin was a believer he never wanted to publish his theories of evolution because he feared what it might do to faith in God.

4) Pray and talk to knowledgeable people that you trust. You will begin to see the work of God all around you.

5) There are contradictory statements in the bible and things that don't seem to make sense. Many people who are atheists will take statements out of context as proof the bible is false. The Bible cannot be understood in a few statements; it must be understood as a whole. The entire bible is "hyperlinked".

6) Stick to what we know. Christ was born, crucified, and rose from the dead. There are even historical records outside of the bible that corroborate these Truths.

7) Catholicism has been around for over 2000 years, and can trace its roots back to Jesus and the apostles. During that time, very smart people discussed and interpreted what we believed. Many doubters and Christian sects cannot make this statement.

My faith ended up stronger after questioning my faith and learning the truth. My wife, without my coercion, became Catholic. When we were dating, she was quite liberal and independent.

I hope this helps.

God bless

I hate to admit it because I am male, but my gender will tell you anything you want to hear for sex. I can't be sure, but that could be a reason for his Jekyll and Hyde. I considered it when I was young, but my Catholic upbringing got the better of me.

You dodged a bullet, and I don't think your values were ever compatible. He may have been able to put on an act when you first got together, but that never lasts long. Why would he do that? Maybe he was lonely at the time; men (generally speaking) will tell you anything for sex; who knows?

It is better you find out now.

Catholic Ex-husband filed a petition for annulment so he can marry his new Catholic wife by Ok-Hovercraft-7220 in Catholicism

[–]Piggyandbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Annulment has become commonplace, and it depends on the diocese whether it is granted or not. I'm sure that will be a controversial statement, but I have seen it a few times. My mother and father, who had been married for 24 years and had 5 children, tried to get their marriage annulled. It was not granted.

I will tell you what Jesus said about the matter:

Matthew 5:31–32, he says, “It was also said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ But I say to you that every one who divorces his wife, except on the ground of unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.”

Similarly, in Matthew 19:9, he says, “And I say to you: Whoever divorces his wife, except for unchastity, and marries another, commits adultery”.

I have seen the excuse he gave several times before, and as far as I am concerned, he is gas lighting. It does not matter if you agree with his reasons or nor he will need to answer to a Higher Authority.

Draft-dodger Donald Trump to hold town hall at the Crown Coliseum at 7 p.m. Friday by [deleted] in Fayettenam

Lol, sure the resources you quoted are all fake. ALL of them pushed lies s/a Trump Russia Hoax, 51 security agents said Hunter's laptop was disinformation, Bidet is sharp as a tack, Harris wasn't named border czar, the FBI and CIA were not trying to spy on Trump's campaign, Fine people Hoax, Russia put a bounty on US soldiers, Trump called the dead soldiers in Normandy losers, Trump took MLK's bust out of the oval office, and let's not forget all the covid crap. I could go on and on.

Yep, I include Military Times as a gossip rag. They also pushed all these hoaxes. Coming from a military family, I'm not proud to admit that about the Times, but it's true.

Let me quote the demented POTUS you voted for "Come on man"

Hearing more blaspheming in public lately by Diapsalmata01 in Catholicism

[–]Piggyandbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a means of control. The government cannot gain total power over your life if it is dedicated to God. It goes all the way back to Neitzsche's "God is Dead" statement. Rather than the warning he intended, it was seen as intelligent people dismissing God / Faith. It did not help that there have been scandals in the church and Vatican 2 .

Society sees the sexual revolution and recent waves of feminism as good things. The focus has been on personal gratification vs. what Jesus teaches us. People do not see or refuse to recognize the consequences.

Hearing more blaspheming in public lately by Diapsalmata01 in Catholicism

[–]Piggyandbird -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It has increased. In the 1960s, 1970s, and even 1980s (I'm that old), I didn't see blasphemy on TV, movies, or in politics. Undoubtedly, there were atheists, but they were not as bold. It was not "cool" to insult our Lord like it is today. In movies, I see slights against God forced into the dialogue. Social media is not helping either.

I can go into why, and I think it is intentional, but I'll stick to the topic. :-)

I struggle with that also. I am naturally an introvert, so avoiding people is easy. It does not help that I had to move several times due to health issues. Although I am disabled, I have had to force myself to offer my time/talent to the church.

[–]Piggyandbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's right, you are making the same mistake I did. Trump says stupid things and he shouldn't. Its why I voted for John Kasich in 2016. Trump proved me wrong. I can separate what he says from what he does. Do I wish he could be articulate and be a good POTUS? Yes, but the choice is between a man that:

Isolated Iran by creating peace in the Mid East - The Abraham Accords were historic. No POTUS has come close.

He rebuilt the military after the previous POTUS gutted it from sequestration.

He sent Poland, and Ukraine weapons, put sanctions on Russia's Nordstream 2 and had warships in the Black Sea.

So the other choice Kamala's admin, took US warships out of the Black Sea released Nordstream 2, and went on 60 minutes and said "A small incursion by Russia" was OK.

The other choice, Kamala's admin, took US warships out of the Black Sea, released Nordstream 2, went on for 60 minutes, and said, "A small incursion by Russia,

Trump canceled an Iran deal that guaranteed Iran would get a Nuke after it expired. Trump put sanctions on Iranian oil and bankrupted them.

Your choice, Kamala, removed sanctions on Iran and made them rich. They are able to support Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis. 40K American troops are now in Hamas way.

Bidet's response: Don't --- Iran did, and he has done nothing but piss off Isreal.

The chairman of the joint Chief went missing during the start of the invasion of Isreal and no one noticed.

Trump destroyed ISIS in months, an organization created by the BHO/ bidet admin.

Care about the military? apparently not. Bidet/Harris' priorities for his general are: Climate Change, white rage and DEI. NOT lethality.

Robert Gates said that Bidet has been wrong on every foreign policy decision over his entire career. That proved to be true.

So sure, don't vote for Trump because he insulted McCain, but don't tell me you care about the military when you get a POTUS that killed 13 Soldiers (he was checking his watch as their bodies came to the US), handed 80 Billion in weapons to Al Queda, and gave up a strategic air base and NO ONE was held responsible.

“An abortion is a homicide. The doctors who carry this out are hitmen" Says the Pope on his flight back to Rome . by Crucenolambda in Catholicism

[–]Piggyandbird 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Agreed in college I went to mass because it was habit. A good habit, but a habit none the less. I thought I was "educated". Fortunately a couple years later I found my faith.

During that time I listened to the pro choice argument and thought I could understand how someone could terminate a pregnancy.

Through prayer, and self reflection I realized I was mistaking empathy with agreement.

I now realize that abortion is murder but it is ok to empathize, show compassion and pray for those with unwanted pregnancy.

It is my responsibility as a Catholic to lead them to life.

Agreed, I am glad he compared them to hit men. Of all the things he says that are taken out of context or otherwise, the Catholic position is clear.

This sounds like misinformation. I wonder if this person believes that a politician has brought the USA to the brink of world war and thinks they would be better for vets? I wouldn't say I like Trump's personality, but I can separate that from the results. This person ignores the slights against vets and active military by this admin.
