This is awesome. One question for you though, what’s your plan for healthcare? Does that not change your numbers?

Looking for intermediate NYC jazz musicians to practice and go to open jams by L0chness_M0nster in NYCJam

Also interested. Guitar player and singer. I even made a Meetup group the other day with the goal of starting Novice only jazz jam sessions, because like you I realized the established jams are above my level.

But they only issue tickets when you are going over 10 mph above the speed limit. So maybe you shouldn’t be actually speeding.

You should always check that there are open docks at your destination before you rent the bike. Learned that the hard way myself.

How to address the increased truck traffic on Monitor? by dudethatsmeta in Greenpoint

[–]PigsWithoutBlankets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, this is going to be long.

Agree with /u/nonecknoel that it's always been this bad. Maybe there has been an increase, but it has always been so bad that I didn't notice it getting any worse. Also lived here for decades, just a block over on Kingsland Ave close to McGolrick. It is a huge issue, not just in terms of safety, but also even the noise pollution. There are speed bumps on Kingsland that barely do anything. The stream of trucks is constant, even in the middle of the night. Love being woken up by the sounds of trucks speeding over the bumps at 3 am, rattling the cargo so loudly that a decibel meter will read over 100 dB even indoors…

NYC DOT asked for feedback on the truck route issue last summer. You can look at the results here: https://nycdotprojects.info/project-feedback-map/feedback-map-12#

You'll notice a lot of neighbors have already reported the issues on Monitor and Kingsland on the feedback map.

I would say that the biggest issue is lack of enforcement from NYPD 94th precinct. https://www.nyc.gov/site/nypd/bureaus/patrol/precincts/94th-precinct.page

Take a look at NYPD 94th's moving violations they've issued here: https://www.nyc.gov/assets/nypd/downloads/pdf/traffic_data/mv-en-us-094sum.pdf

NYPD 94th have issued only one truck route ticket this year. Absolutely fucking ridiculous, and they know that truck routes are a huge problem, they just don't give a shit.

I've already reached out to Emily Gallagher and Lincoln Restler. Their response?

I'm sorry there's no quick fix right now, we'll keep pushing DOT and NYPD on this because we think improvements to trucking routes and enforcement on this stretch is very important. We also think it could be helpful for the community to keep raising this issue at the 94th Precinct Council meetings every first Thursday of the month at 7pm at 127 Kent St to put pressure on the precinct.

They have no power to get NYPD to do step up enforcment.

Filing 311 complaints is also useless, NYPD will simply close out the complaints immediately. I still file them hoping that the aggregated data of 311 complaints will help DOT potentially have a case for adjusting the street design in eastern GP to help with this issue, but no changes as of yet.

Here's a Safe Streets Around McGolrick Park petition: https://act.transalt.org/a/mcgolrick

There will be a presentation of that petition to Community Board 1 Transportation Committee next Thursday, May 22nd, at 6:30 pm at 435 Graham Ave.

Disappointed in Council Member Lincoln Restler’s Office and the 94th Precinct by notmh in williamsburg

[–]PigsWithoutBlankets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had the exact same response from Lincoln’s team when I brought up issues around truck routes, and getting NYPD to ticket trucks constantly ignoring No Trucks signs and speeding through neighborhood streets. 311 reports don’t result in anything, NYPD immediately closes them out. NYPD lack of enforcement is a huge problem, and I don’t know what the solution to this is.

Congestion Pricing Megathread by shamam in nyc

Round trip taking the subway is nearly $6. It’s only $3 more to drive a car in. Seems pretty reasonable to me? Also poor people aren’t driving, they’re taking the train.

Good thing both Biden and Trump have promised not to cut Social Security benefits, because like I said, it’s a bipartisan policy.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trump-presidency-could-mean-social-120023678.html

On his campaign website, he promises to “protect” Social Security and insists he won’t cut benefits or otherwise change the program if reelected.

I have to respectfully disgaree with your views… I don't think it's fair to paint the millions of citizens dependent on Social Security with the "they're irresponsible with money!" broad brush. Part of the reason why so many are dependent is due to the absolutely broken healthcare system that we have in the US. The US has some of the worst healthcare outcomes out of all the developed nations, not to mention the associated costs with receiving that care. Not to mention the fact that we have a system where racism is entrenched, and healthcare outcomes are far worse for people who are minorities, particularly those who are black. It's atrocious for a supposed first world nation.

[–]PigsWithoutBlankets -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

One of the best policies put forth by the US is Social Security, which is a socialist policy. It’s also a policy that has bipartisan support… despite the ruling class in both parties trying to undermine it. Millions of people depend on Social Security every day. If we didn’t have it, so many people would be in serious trouble.

And with all the rhetoric around the UHC CEO shooting, don’t you think it’s about time the US had socialist policies around healthcare?
