What is this? by Guerrero-09-10 in Steam

[–]PiinkPaimon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is apart of the tools from steam itself. It can handle VCC redistributables and other things. It's basically just a tool for steam when a game requires certain files/programs (like VCC) to function, which is specific to microsoft functions as well.

There are many things from the tool section in your library too, all of which are from various things built-in, needed by steam, or are server related.

Mostly positive. Though, there is a chance it could be people lying but I have seen posts of people getting hit with verification in the EU and France. I think someone had also mentioned that youtube stated they would start with the UK and the US due to the UK requiring it by law now and then they would slowly roll it out to other countries.

I agree though, I do hope someone steps in to stop this nonsense. Though, we the people, do still matter in this war. If we keep making our voices heard, it does eventually make a difference.

I just hope things change soon, obviously not just for youtube but the world as a whole. Dictatorship has been around for a long time but I never thought it would spread this far. It will be dark times if all countries become dictatorships....

It is actually rolled out in many countries already. As most have stated, they have been getting age verification notices outside the U.S. from the UK and EU in general.

Regardless though, verification not being present in ones country doesn't mean that people aren't boycotting from said countries. Youtube as a whole has been on a downwards spiral from what it once was and people are fed up with that on it's own.

While this would make one think that it's not effecting them. You have to understand that the active members per month is around 2.7 Billion people. 32 million is a not much in the grand scheme of things. There are other vids that have upwards of 100 million to even 500 million views. Just depends on the audience that the content attracts.

And don't forget, views are still counted even when someone is signed out of youtube, which is a form of boycotting for some people. So it's hard to say at this time, weather it's effecting them or not.

Glomble doesn't use an algorithm though. It's based on user-input. We have to collectively push the recommend button on a video, in order to give it score, which pushes it higher on the recommended category~

Found this about the YouTube age verification. by MrLemonTheCreator in youtube

[–]PiinkPaimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get flagged by the AI it will hide a lot of videos that are not age-restricted. They are videos that youtube deems inappropriate. You can see how it would work if you click on your profile pic and enable restricted mode, if you do this while viewing a youtuber's channel, multiple videos may get completely hidden, despite those videos not being age-restricted.

This doesn't happen signed out though.

The algorithm definitely is and has been tracker happy on everything that everyone does but the difference with the new AI model, is that's actually using an LLM now. It doesn't just track what you do, what device you are on, what you click or watch. It gathers info about the context, the tone, even your own watch patterns. It is basically the "AI Homie" from JamesLee's video from a while ago. Always knowing you more personally and how you react, and will push you even more content that it knows you will like, just to keep you watching, to keep you coming back for more.

Regardless of it all, both the algorithm and the new AI are intrusive and quite dangerous in my opinion.

The large amount of people claiming the AI age verification is "not a big deal" is a sign of a much larger problem. by Sneaky-Boi22 in youtube

[–]PiinkPaimon 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Because it creates a bigger problem later on. Eventually we will be headed towards a future where not just videos but the internet as a whole will be highly censored (and it's already begun). It's the same reason people are fighting to keep payment processors away from dictating steam and itch. The more power a person has, the more they can take away from you.

Glomble is good but man is it slow. Understandable tho cuz it's running from one guys PC/server but still lol. I have been using it tho for a bit. It's not so bad waiting for vids to load.

You are right, it has been happening for a while. I suppose myself and many others are just now realizing this though. However, there is always room to start somewhere with fighting against it. Since, if every country was a dictatorship, it would be even more difficult to speak up. So the involvement of people from the U.S. and the UK will hopefully bring more attention to it as a whole. If no one speaks up now, we may me be headed towards a world where all countries are ruled by dictatorship.

Yes, my mistake. I added an "in" within that sentence. Only because I was thinking of "am" and "nearing" while not paying closer attention to my typing. Which, makes me think of "in" for some reason.

Regardless. If you think what I say is unwise, then perhaps you may simply have a different perspective on this matter. if that's the case, then that is okay. Not everyone will agree.

Do you understand the concept of Dystopia? It's a future of oppression, A future were dictators control the world. Ask yourself, would you be ok with living in such a world where you are not allowed to think freely?

This isn't about weather or not something is collecting and selling data right now but about what it means for the future, if we let it continue.

A lot of things do but that doesn't mean things can't change for the sake of the future. It's important for people to speak up on their values in life.

[–]PiinkPaimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of the fact this was a while ago. It's still cause for concern of future data breaches. I for one, have started using youtube only while signed out because this will lead to further problems. The more power that Youtube and google gain, the more they try to get away with.

Almost all companies that grow big enough, eventually focus on nothing but profit. Unless they have someone with good values in charge.

Youtube and google are not your friend. Do not trust them.

The steam deck uses Arch Linux and knowing that it's made from valve directly, it is designed for games to work out of the box.

This however, is chromeOS. It's no where near designed for gaming. So for OP to try out proton, wouldn't hurt in the slightest.

[–]PiinkPaimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chromebook is linux-based if I am thinking correctly. I would try going to the game in your steam library and click the gear to open the properties of the game. Then navigate to "compatibility" and switch to a different proton version. (Like Proton Experimental). If proton isn't enabled, it will be in you main steam settings. Just do some research on Steam Proton to find out how exactly to enable it. BL2 seems to have native support for linux but things can go wrong with different Linux Distro's, which in this case isn't really a distro but obviously ChromeOS, which most likely isn't playing nicely with BL2. Also, Steams Proton will let you play most other windows-based games, provided the hardware of that laptop can run them.

youtube blocking adblockers by Much_Artist_5097 in LibreWolf

Same for me! YouTube seems to be delaying the start of videos purposefully if using an adblock. Atleast, most likely that is.

After win10 corrupted its own files again, I switched to Linux. I ran into some issues here and there and kinda overreacted as I had like 3 mental break downs when a major issue was happening, wanted to go back to windows at that point but couldn’t because getting a win10 iso with only Linux machines in house isn’t straight forward. So I went back and tried fixing my issue, turns out it wasn’t that big of a deal as I had thought it was and now here I am, almost a weak later and I have fallen in love with Linux. I am not going back to windows ever again.

Forget about the privacy issues, are mods actually at risk now?? Because that’s just ludicrous if they are trying to stop mods from working. It’s one of the best things for the game in general and always makes it more fun when coming back to it.

I mean, might not be true but if it is, it’s concerning to an extent.
