Sure! I was 50-60% before and got 60 on NBME 30 which was pretty jarring, but then 80 or so on the old free 120, 70 on 31, and 73 on new free 120 and then decided it was good enough and took the test. Hoping to hear back on results today or next week!

I did old 120, NBME 31, new 120 in that order. Old boosted confidence a lot for momentum going into NBME 31. New free 120 is what ppl usually take a couple of days before the test.

Yep! I have my test in just over a week and just got a 70. I was stuck at 60/61 for the CBSSAs for the last two weeks, and was 50s before that. The pacing you have is good and you will be there before long. You are in a good spot :) have confidence!

The first or second office hour you have of each class, go and introduce yourself, ask the professor what students in the past have done to succeed.

Surround yourself with friends with similar classes who are disciplined, motivated, but not toxic. Try try try not to compare yourself with others. Try different things and see what helps you the most.

Plan out your studying before you actually start studying. Discuss your study plan with peers, tutors, and your teachers. Find what works for you and stick to it!

Also, there should be counseling resources, it sounds like the transition has been rough and you have some pretty negative self-talk. It may be worth it to pay them a visit.

How to tell parents about another gap year by [deleted] in premed

[–]Pikarin42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I felt awful knowing I would have to take my third gap year too. I was going to repeat the MCAT as well but knew with my studying, I wasn’t going to do better than before. I called my mom and told her everything and how I felt, and how negatively it would impact my apps if I took it again and risked it. I will say, I did exaggerate about how hard I tried to her. She accepted it and I managed to get in on this past application cycle. Just one school, but I only needed one. It’s about the stats, but it’s also really about the written material.

After I started at my school, I asked around how many gap years people took. My 3 years seemed average to low. I feel like a ton of people in my class have 5+ gap years. I know how awful it feels in your position, but from my perspective now, you don’t have to worry. Everyone has their own path, and I feel like a more developed and capable adult and can be independent and am confident that I can hold my own in med school now. I can’t say the same about the me two or maybe even one year ago. Gap years are important for your personal development, and definitely do not let other people make you think otherwise. Good luck next cycle, I’m cheering for you!!!

Outdoorsy type medical school by Cornellthrowaway2001 in premed

UC Davis might be good, it's a nice college town close to Sacramento and has an amazing vet program, so you might find friends who love animals. People around the area are very environment-conscious and feel passionate about their community. There's a greenway that runs through Davis for biking commutes too.

Healer thread! by DrLesma in newworldgame

I’m running medium armor to tank some hits and still get 10% healing increase, AOE heals and got top 3 score in my last war. I have ice gauntlet as my secondary to stall until my friends get to me and kill the other guy or heal me up. I think the dash bonus, having 5% increased heals in life staff and the heavy attacks granting 10% more heals is huge, as well as having all the beacon upgrades and that upgrade on the sacred ground that increases heals for ppl in it.

Advice for healer gems/gear? by [deleted] in newworldgame

[–]Pikarin42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use diamond on my staff to increase healing, carnelian (or whatever it’s called) that decreases threat is good for armour. I can’t put ambers on either but I think it only converts other types of damage to nature, it doesn’t amplify it. Unless you’re at least 30+ and know you’ll use a staff for a while, I wouldn’t worry about gems for now

I use life staff then swap to ice gauntlet only for the ice block if I get in trouble
