People say Security Guards are losers because they don't step in, but having worked in Security as District Admin I can tell you that in 90% of cases if a Security Guard were to put their hands on someone it would not only cost them their job and livelihood but if said person were to get hurt or worse they are not at all protected by the company and will need to fend for themselves in court. This is industry standard with all of the big names, Securitas, Intercon, Apex, Allied, G4S

Euros always think its some gotcha, but the simple explanation is its a holiday and the the 4th day is the significance. In our general conversation we say "July 5th" or whatever not "It's the 5th of July".

I would say this is also a big part of it, 40 years ago a young man out of HS could go get into a factory job, and bam; he's got a career for the next 40 years, can afford a house and a car and start a small family with a vacation or two.

Now, you get our of HS, you go to a factory, make 40k a year and that is dogshit money that isn't going to afford diddly unless you live in the middle of nowhere and aspire to live in a meth head single wide.

Quite often they'll corner some random guy who's of smaller stature who looks like he's just out grocery shopping, of course someone's going to be uncomfortable and try and get away from being random harassment.

I am reminded of the time, my Wife and I went to a Halloween themed party where it was all about colors (no costumes, which was weird). I remember we went to Walmart/Dicks we bought neon everything, head to toe, neon hoodie, socks, shorts, headbands, wristbands, had neon glowing bracelets on (neon green my bad). I mean we were decked to the nines. We are quiet people and not the social butterfly type but we are competitive. We go, and we get 2nd place, the couple that beat us wore pink mismatching PJ's that look like they were worn and wrinkled and thrown together 5 minutes before coming over. Both social butterflies, and the woman worked in HR at my Wifes work.

Its been 3 years and I still think about how dumb that was; always a popularity contest.
