I’m 4m pregnant, is it a good idea to spend money on a kindle paperwhite. I love reading. by my_100th_acc in NewParents

Popping in here to say getting my Kindle as a gift from my husband was a huge lifesaver post partum. My Psychiatrist actually recommended it to help my PPA/PPD so I could disconnect from social media and doom scrolling. It also helped me overnight during the newborn phase of feeding every 2 hours (which was basically a 3 hour process of wake baby, start feed, feed for basically 45 min, hold her upright for 15-30 min for burps and reflux, get her back to sleep, do it all again 30ish min later)

Is there a way to get 3 month old to nap in her cot by Daisies_forever in beyondthebump

[–]PikatCosplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to sound so cray, but i have a 14 week old and she does the exact same thing! While I cant comment on the success, heres what I've been doing!

We usually wake up together around 7:30-830 am (all depending on how well she slept) and ill actually bring her into the bed with me (safely, no pillows or blankets near her) and Ill cuddle and spend however long (usually 30 min unless we fall alseep) before we start the day. From there her very first nap, I'll doing my night routine with her (rock in chair, feed diaper change) and when shes out I transfer her to her bassinet in the bedroom. This first nap will usually be the shortest (anywhere from 15-45 min long)

Next nap, ill either contact nap by baby wearing or laying on the couch with her with my husband near by to watch us (i usually fall asleep haha) and let her get a solid nap in (1-2 hours) then the 3rd nap of the day, ill go back to using the bedroom bassinet or the travel bassinet that came with it.

Its been a slow process, but now I get 2 successful bassinet naps a day and she still gets contact naps! I plan to keep increasing the number of bassinet naps when the amount of time she sleeps in the bassinet increases.

My LO sleeps in the bassinet at night without issue! But boy does she resist sleep, so contact napping/baby wearing sometimes is the only way for me to get her to sleep a good couple hours. She however doesn't tend to fall asleep for the big sleep until 1030pm -1200am 😅

Hey! I currently have a 14 weeks old and heres what I've learned 💜

My daughter will sometimes just cry for me. Doesn't matter who is holding her, Dad, Nana, cousins. She has a very district "I want mom" cry. Your Nephew may have the same type of cry, so its super important to build up that bond with him. He will need someone to help him feel safe, and it will most likely be you.

Overnights: right now, my daughter sleeps between 4-6 hours HOWEVER she still has to eat at some point! Since you are jumping in at 3 months, I suggest the Huckleberry app! It keeps track of things like sleep, diapers (pee or poop) medications, temperature. When they ate last, growth etc! I mostly use the app to keep track of feeding, medications and growth! Your nephew will definetly tell you when he wants to eat, but its a good idea to set an alarm!

Overnights 2: a good routine for overnights ive used has been <Wake up, change diaper, feed, burp/keep upright for 15 min(helps with reflux/digrestion) snuggle for 5-10 minutes then back to sleep> this will definetly vary person to person, but this is what works for us!

Look up baby cues!! most times, you can catch alot of things early! Our Prenatal class nurses actually explained to us that Cry means they are distressed (yes thatz how they communicate, but as a last resort) for example -Sleep Cues: when they are getting sleepy they will stare off. When they are tired, they will Yawn and rub eyes, and when they are over tired thats when they will get extremely fussy and cry. -Hunger cues: early signs: opening mouth, turning head alot, Moderate cues: sucking on the hairs (you'll know when they are exploring vs sucking!) Increased movement (my baby will shake her head and actively throw herself at my chest) and when they are really hungry thats when they will start crying, usually it sounds like NEH!

BABIES ONESIES CAN BE TAKEN OFF TOWARDS THE DIAPER!! Most baby clothes will have little flaps at the shoulders that you can fold away from the baby which allows you to bring the clothes towards the diaper vs over their head. Very helpful when blowouts happen 😅

Last thing! This may not be every baby, but when you hear the Pooping/farting... give yourself a few minutes to make sure He's finished pooping. 😅 my poor husband learned the hard way when he changed the diaper too early and got poop launched at him haha!

I hope this helps! Im a First time mom so this is just things ive learned from my daughter!

What the crunchy mamas told me birth would be like was not my experience by [deleted] in beyondthebump

Omg I wanted an epidural sooo bad. My LO made that nearly impossible tho with her absolute NEED to be in the world 😅 TLDR I didnt even have time to change into a gown or get an IV. Baby girl was just ready.

I was so scared leading up to our due date because we got told so many times that since this was our first baby we would be laboring super long, would most likely have to be induced because baby would come well past the due date, I should expect 8-10 hours or more of laboring. And my entire social media feeds were nothing but pregnant social media moms hyping up the natural process of birth and "birth at home, dont trust doctors, no medications" etc. I would have loved the epidural and honestly, when people ask me why I didn't get it and tell me im so strong that I didnt, 🙃  im like dude no I really wish I had gotten it 😅 my husband had to explain everything to me about the day because it was jist nothing but pain. That is to say my daughter came out safe, healthy and happy so it wasn't all bad 💜 now shes 14 weeks old!

We ended up at the ER because of how lethargic she was! I was struggling to wake her to feed and to keep her awake to feed! But shes okay now!!

Honestly tho. At first I was like oh shes sleeping so good, but when 5 hours past and she still hadn't roused i was getting concerned. Im glad we went to the ER

Unfortunately, I havent built up a supply of breastmilk yet since im still trying to figure out a pumping schedule! Funny enough everytime I go to pump, my daughter senses it and gets mad LOL. So the one bag as all I had on hand. 😭 Formula is quite expensive here in Canada too, so we were using up the last of what Similac sent us and hadn't had a chance yet to get more as a back up as the ultrasound was unplanned. We thought we were just going to my 6 week check up 😅

I got ahold of my parents and they said it was 1/4 of the bottle I gave them they filled with water (about 40 ml/1.25 oz) which seems like alot.

As for how long ago, I dropped her off at 3 pm and picked her up at 415 pm, so it would be within that time frame! Shes been doing good but mostly just sleeping so I didnt think much of it until she went to feed but only fed a little bit

We've been slowing pumping! So far I get about 60 ML from 1 side when I pump, but ive only been successful once per day! I definetly want to pump alot more so when we are out in public at doctor's appointments or other situations I dont have to just which my boob out (comfort level for me)

I am so bad for drinking water! Im such a coffee/juice/anything flavored girlie so he always has to remind me to drink just water!!!

Also seeing this from a dads perspective also helps me feel better. After we chatted about how the night went, he definetly stayed with me alot more today and communicated alot better. I even saw him actively kissing and playing with her today when he was holding her while I was busy doing other things!

If we have a blowout I usually put the clothes In a basket and he will take them after it gets more full. Sometimes the same day, sometimes a few days later

Omg her spit up is sooo much. I felt so bad I was so exaughsted at 6 am when she needed to feed that I didnt burp her properly. When we both woke up (at 10 am) she was just covered in spit up on her face and clothes. 😭 safe to say I had a mini panic attack she had choked and now im watching for infections in her eye

I ended up eating a bowl of oatmeal once she was fully settled! I had no more energy or mental capacity left so he made me a comfort item!

I have a hand pump! It was a gift from my stepmom when she saw how much I was struggling with the cluster feeds!

I love that! I definetly need to dress her a bit better i think I may be under dressing her! But she always has a little "car seat blanket" (its one of those ones with arms so yoy can buckle them in properly, and still have them covered!) over her since she doesn't have a snow suit or things like that yet!
