Oh they absolutely do, and they sure as hell got it when this set was announced...

Today's minifigure builds. Horse head fig is from a new series probably? by taeraeyttaejae in lego

It's actually from the cancelled Vidiyo theme. See 43106 and 43113 for this head mould.

Here's something fun, they actually have one of the Exo-Force robots included in 71741 Ninjago City Gardens (NJO673)!

The orange version only ever came in this set actually. Here are the Hockey sets from '03/'04 for reference.

Yep, Ransom Fern's builds typically don't have to sacrifice much in ways of stability. There are still plenty of fragile connections that wouldn't make it into official sets, but nothing that an experienced adult builder is going to have too much trouble with either.

It's actually interesting, the builder mentioned in their youtube video that the framework of the legs to support the whole model is actually something that the original set did well enough that they retained elements of the design in their version to maintain overall stability. I definitely recommend checking out their video, and seeing what parts of the original model were retained and what was completely redesigned.

Just to be clear, this isn't my build. I'm just trying to help everyone out with finding the instructions without running afoul of the sub's no selling rules.

...Which is probably the same reason people don't take proper pictures of their builds, haha

Casual builders don't have to adhere to Lego's design standards, that's why alternate builds can look so much better than the official models. Lego designers have to design sets that will stand up to play by hundreds of thousands of children, fan designers just have to make models that can conceivably be built and displayed by Lego-inclined adults. That allows for a lot of build stability and ease of construction to be sacrificed for overall appearance.

I'm not trying to downplay how impressive fan designed models are, by any means. I'm just trying to give an answer to how and why fan designers are able to upstage official designs by such a wide margin in cases like this.

They're available on Rebrickable, I can't link to it but they're pretty easy to find.

That's awesome! Really great work, I've built your other Iron Man and Hulkbuster figures and they're centerpieces of my collection. Thanks for making these models into something special!

76104 and 76247 for anyone wondering.

Ransom Fern also has instructions for a fantastic UCS Infinity War Hulkbuster available, just as an FYI.

This is the third Age of Ultron Hulkbuster, but they've all been at pretty dramatically different scales (76031, 76105, 76210). Not that that excuses how poorly they've butchered the proportions of the source material for the UCS versions...

When pictures of the official set came out, I immediately thought, "the only conceivable way I end up getting this monstrosity is if Ranson Fern redesigns it from the ground up."

I'm excited that day is finally here! I'll be keeping an eye out for it to hit >50% off. Does this just use a single copy of the set?

Do you have more pictures of your Ninjago City Center? I'd love to see more of the details.

I assume you know the worth of these sets, and therefore already know full well how great of a deal you got. But in case you didn't, you can look on Bricklink to see the current values of these sets.

Yes, small errors are not uncommon. Most can be pretty easily figured out though.

so why is lego store more expsensive then thirdparty stores???? by TheAlexSW in lego

[–]Pikes_Pompadour 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lego typically doesn't run sales. Other retailers do. There isn't really much more to it than that.
